Hello from California.
I just purchased a SAM460LE board, built a nice AOS 4.1 rig around it, and now I'm exploring. I have questions, of course, but I need to figure out where I can post them.
Anyway, I'm Kevin from California and it's nice to meet you all.

Question to H2 OS4 buyers

Hi! I made a survey entry on os4welt https://os4welt.de/viewtopic.php?t=2793 about for what systems people bought Heretic 2 for OS 4. Even if you don't read German maybe some of you who bought it could also click the Survey (I think Amigans does not allow to do a survey unless I missed the option). While surely not all buyers will read forums it might still give an idea. I am of course especially interested in the share of "actual PPC system" vs. "QEmu" here. Thanks. Best regards, Steffen

Any info what i need to take care of when exchanging the RadeonHD against a RadeonRX on an x1000?
- any jumpers to change? - do i need to set up new screenmodes and stuff before rebooting with changed setup or can the rx theoretically run with HD stuff at least for workbench screen? - what all do i need to change on software side?
Thanks in advance! (I got the rx in a box since some months)
Best regards, Steffen

@Tuvok ReWarp on aminet contains both libraries that you need and is fairly recent or not the most recent (2021). https://aminet.net/package/util/libs/ReWarp

@kas1e Hi, is there any repository where to find the compiled re-warp libraries ReWarp: https://github.com/Sakura-IT/ReWarpReWarp3DPPC: https://github.com/Sakura-IT/ReWarp3DPPCthe links are broken. I tried aminet and os4depot but "powerpc.library" does not give any results. As an alternative, is there a tutorial somewhere on how to compile the libraries? I have no faintest idea where to start. Before posting, I read the spot's porting for dummies, but I'm too dumb even for that.

Off topic:
The SPD is a small EEPROM on the DIMM which contains paramenters such as timing for that DIMM. Timing is normally very relaxed, such that it should work with every memory controller for a given operating frequency (JEDEC timing). A 1866MT/s DIMM operating at just 1300MT/s can benefit from reduced latencies. Especially in case of AmigaOS where access tends to be random instead of streaming.
Our u-boot is old and lacks the functionality to adjust DDR timing.
I have been playing with the thought of creating a small tool which allows you to adjust the timing stored in the SPL instead. (If the EEPROM is not write protected)
Needless to say that this would be a tool for advanced users only.

@smf Maybe you can ask permission to put them on os4depot, included sources for further development.

Ah i changed one thing in MiniGL - to be able to compile MiniGL and gl4es on the same system I had to rename the directory name of some includepath, Renaming GL to GL2 for MiniGL (as GL is the one for gl4es) and all occurences of it to be able to compile with it with the same compiler installation.

@Raziel
I used the latest publicly available MiniGL. When i got it i was surprised it supported multitexturing now and backported the multitexturing code from gl4es to the MiniGL renderer so in the released version both have multitexturing
Where i did custom modifications was with gl4es as it used a) it was not compatible to be run from inside a so library, i fixed it b) it used a generic function name somewhere and h2 used the same generic function name somewhere i fixed this
I gave the changes back to the gl4es project months ago though and AFAIK they integrated it into their code.
Best regards, Steffen

@Lio
Thanks. Not work in Frogatto because it has already gamepad support but you cannot change buttons. I believe that this AIA program only support games that are designed for keyboard only.

@LyleHaze
Hi!
I will send you an mail and ask for the tools. But IMHO tools like this doesn't deserve to be buried in a forum post even if the output probably is only readable for people with insight, they should be available online on os4depot or similar :)

Tomorrow, at 19:00 UTC I will do a live stream on Twitch ( https://twitch.tv/walkerogr) where I will start with the presentation of the new release and playing the game on my X5000. This will be the start of a new series of streams, which will be about gaming on AmigaOS 4. Join me if you want to see how Heretic 2 plays.

I have some experience with DRAM on the A1222. I can offer a few details, and a path to get more.
I've been absent, and I only came here today because a friend suggested I check this topic out. I'm not "gone forever", but a new job, a move to a new state, and WAY too many personal obligations have effectively eliminated Amiga time for me, for a while anyway.
Fair Warning: There are some "adjustments" that have been made to get P1022 RAM to accommodate AmigaOS. Just because "UBOOT" , or just because "Linux" DOES NOT MEAN that AmigaOS on the same board will offer the same features. That's as deep as I'll go on that.
I HAVE looked at a LOT of RAM SPD data on the A1222, and I recall at least one stick that looked like two sticks according to SPD. I tested a LOT of ram, some worked, some did not. Too long of a story to tell.
I have written two rather crude tools for SPD. One gathers the SPD data and outputs a data file, the second reads that data and does SOME (not all) decoding and translation. These tools are offered freely to anyone who wants them. Since they were written for A1222, they only look at the first stick of RAM, but anyone with a bit of play time could expand them to see additional sticks on a X5000 easily enough.
I don't have a website. I'll find the tools and forward it to anyone who asks me, be patient as it might take a day or two. Anyone whom gets these tools is free to re-distribute however they see fit.
No warranty is expressed or implied, use at your own risk.. all the usual.

All I missed is "What is SPD"?? RAM sticks carry a small ROM that describes their size, speeds, and capabilities. The computer reads that and then adjust the hardware to make best use of the RAM abilities. There are various versions, revisions and formats. You can read SPD directly from a UBOOT command line, but it's not graceful.
Those asking for these tools will probably just get a forwarded email, as I don't currently have an A1222 to boot up.
Have Fun, lylehaze
