Re: EasyRPG Player

Great to hear it works better now! In theory game data shouldn't affect library auto-open stubs, but if the scripts work that's fine.
The SDL 1.2 version doesn't use SDL for scaling the graphics, it has a simple 2X scaler written by me, while the SDL2 version uses the SDL2 software renderer for scaling which will always be slower as it's generic.

Sorry I forgot to mention, I already updated the original archive with the SDL1.2 exe.

For once I took my own advice and rebuilt the Player with SDL1.2. This should offer much better speed than the SDL2 software renderer, and hopefully be compatible with a wider range of machines.

Unfortunately there's not much I can do about that, it's part of the library auo init code.

Sure here it is: http://bszili.morphos.me/stuff/easyrpg-player.zip
I didn't think about posting anything as I wouldn't even know what to report. All I know is that the hardware renderer doesn't work for some people, and there's not much to analyze in that. I don't have any hardware acceleration capable OS4FE systems myself, so I'm the wrong person to ask this.
In hindsight I should have stuck with SDL1.2 as long as it's supported by the Player. It only has a limited set of resolutions, but it has a faster custom 2x software scaler compared to the generic one in SDL2.

I'm not sure, which SDL2 issues you mean?
edit: I'll check if I can hide the mouse cursor.
edit #2: It turns out that some games using the Maniac patch handle mouse events. What I can do is to hide the cursor on keyboard events, and make it appear again if any mouse events arrive. Would this work for you?

@kas1e
Thank you, that's way too generous. Of course it's up to the individual, but I prefer things to be transparent.

@Raziel
This doesn't mean I won't lurk here anymore, I just plan to sell the machine I no longer use. For many years when I had to test something on OS4 I used WinUAE, and this option will still be there.

@walkero
Cheers! That's pretty fast, thanks to Petunia. Blood has a bit of a hot start with scarce the resources. Once you have both the tommy gun and the shotgun it gets easier
Once I'm happy with Blood I plan to backport the fixes to Exhumed to make it OS4-compatible as well.

Epic thread necro time! Since I'm not really active in the OS4 scene anymore, I decided to sell the Pegasos II. If you have contributed to the funds, please send me a PM with your PayPal address and the amount, so I can refund you after I sold the machine.

Not from me I'm afraid, I have plenty on my plate with all these Build games even on a single platform. That being said the complete sources will be public, and Hedeon already volunteered to do a WarpOS port which will probably be faster than the emulated 68k one.

This version is now available publicly, you can get it from here on EAB. It has some rough edges, but if you ignore the DSIs the 040 executable runs pretty stable.

Re: Detecting if a 68k prog is running on os4 ?

I ended up going with:
if (((struct Library *)SysBase)->lib_Version >= 50 && (FindResident((STRPTR)"elf.library") || FindResident((STRPTR)"MorphOS"))) {

// AmigaOS4 or MorphOS
}

which does the job I think.

Revisiting this topic, is there a more reliable way to do this other than checking the SysBase version? Before we get sidetracked about fixing my code and why I want to do this, I'd like to avoid h/w banging code from crashing if my program was started on OS4.
The exec.library version check alone won't be enough as we have forks and clones. For example 68k AROS is at 51.3, the 3.2 team has also bumped the main versions to 47, so maybe they will hit 50 with future versions. How could I avoid false positives? Is there a public port, semaphore, or component I could check, that's unique to OS4?

How does putting OS4 files (aka "user supplied Hyperion files we don't have") into a location called "Legacy:" fit into this picture?
