@abalaban
As afxgroup has already stated, it would be difficult to maintain such a repository, at least it would have to be well thought on how to implement it. It would make the porting process faster though, even if at the end I'll be the only person working on it. A bugtracker, too, is a must. I have a first idea on how the CVS would be organised, let me know what do you think:
- to have a common starting point, an official MPlayer tarball would be uploaded - next, we would have a list of versioned patches which should take care of different parts of the code. Depending on how the OS4's SDK evolves, some of these patches might become redundant and discarded - and last, all the OS4-only sources would be included
A complete OS4 version would be created starting from the included tarball, all the files would be added and all the patches applied. Once a stable version is released, when the work on the next version will start the tarball will be replaced with a new one and it would be checked if all the patches are working on this version, by applying them one by one; if a binary is compiled without one or more patches, then those become redundant. I'm not sure if the MPlayer crew would allow to redistribute a tarball, if not it could be linked instead. This is something that would require quite some time to build up, but it might be worth.
Another thing I'd like to "address" is the exe versioning, MPlayer uses a progressive SVN number which is IMHO hard to read and to compare with other versions; the naming Afx uses is nice but also it doesn't give any info on which version is newer and which is older...

@afxgroup
Mail sent, I would like to try to maintain it. These weeks I'm working on mencoder, and I have already a recent build working, so I have already most of the work done for a new MPlayer release, and there will be no more duplicated work. By chance, your MPlayer sources is what I need right now, since I'm trying to add support for DVD:// tracks and libdvdread and I'd like to see how have you implemented them.

MPlayer uses glob if available, but luckily it has a define to not require it if it's not available. If you have already tested your glob() implementation and it is working I'd upload it to os4depot, it might be useful for other projects. Remember to include the sources as it is derived from clib2 which is open source.

Good job, glad to see this port finally proceeding after a long period of hiatus.
@djrikki Pygame is not only for playing games, but is also used to make them. I think it's the first complete "environment" for OS4 specifically designed for games.

I agree, Amiupdate SDK would be the best solution to this problem, as it's already available, mantained, and working.

Sorry for hijacking your thread :) Anyway, I'm in contact with an A1SE owner who's willing to do the check, I'll let you know about the results.

If it's the same discussion I read the other day then it also needs certain pieces of documentation that don't seem to be available, as well as some degree of access to the os4 specific parts of the amiga port of uboot.
M3x from ACube has offered his help to compile an AmigaOne UBoot updater: http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/v ... wmode=flat&order=0#538741I'm now thinking that he might have also the required ArticiaS documentation. Wasn't it available on the now defunct Mai ftp server, too? To continue with the UBoot project we need someone with an A1SE willing to check if the switcher will fit it, see these photos from an A1XE as reference: http://s240.photobucket.com/albums/ff261/Varthall/UBoot-A1/Varthall

Ok, I didn't know you were already at that step with Rogue. Your idea of the 50% speedup with no modifies to the WB is basically my second point, the stop-gap solution. So, for newer cards Hans will be working on this; IMHO we should first find someone who will want to work for the older cards. If no-one will help, then it would be better that Hans directly talks with Rogue for the matter to speed up things.

@kas1e Read this post from Rogue: http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/v ... wmode=flat&order=0#564285They are well aware of the problems with the 3D performance, and that in order to fix this they'll have to rewrite the Workbench and 2d/3d drivers and to have a full port of MESA. This is a lot of work to be done, and they are now probably working on the bases of this structure (i.e. Workbench and maybe the drivers). Rather than bounties they'd need programmers to help with the work, but right now they don't have the possibility to fund them. So, the only solutions I see now are: - contact Hyperion and offer your help and knowledge for this task for free (a solution which I guess Hyperion wouldn't be happy to follow), or - start an unofficial project for a temporary stop-gap solution, without any relation from Hyperion, either for a Gallium port or a revised MiniGL which integrates the 3d driver and doesn't make use of Warp3D, For this a bounty will make sense, too. The thing that should be remembered is that such project will never be official, i.e. never included in OS4, never supported by Hyperion, and that will become useless once the new WB/drivers/MESA will be done and released. P.S. this is just my opinion, I don't have any connection with Hyperion. Varthall

- Tried to boot with no SIL card and no hard disk and DVD drive? - If the above still doesn't help, try the video card on a PC to see if it's not its fault for the A1 not booting.

AFAIK grep has always worked with * as a wildcard until the previous (and the latest) SDK, and this has not been fixed so far. "grep" below is the working version, while "grep_new" the latest one.
grep 782680 ----rwed 23-Maj-09 12:26:09 grep_new 370066 ----rwed 15-Avg-09 23:55:52
I can PM you this version if interested, grep is a very fast and handy tool.

I don't see why current software can't do that now? You should be able to backup and read in regular ISO9660 + Rock Ridge.
Only upto 2GB AFAIK, ISO9660 does not support burning over that limit, so it would be useless for BD. Varthall

A BD burning program, and a filesystem to read your BD discs would be very useful IMHO, at least for backup purposes.

@DAX
Running benchmarks between CPUs of the same architecture isn't useful to check which one is faster (which is obvious per se), but to check what order of difference there iss between them. In our case I'm interested to know how much difference there is between A1's and Sam440's CPUs; another interesting check would be to run CPU-optimized compiles of Blender, to see if they make difference and how much.

@cygnusEd
I have read on Iksnet's forum (in italian) a thread about problems when running AmiCygnix in PIP mode under update 1. I have tried this on my setup, running a freshly installed AmiCygnix, and I can confirm the problems. Regardless of the Workbench screen's depth, the AmiCygnix desktop's colors are all wrong, most of the colors are of a shade of violet. No problems when running it full screen.

@corto
Thanks for your program, I have been missing a profiler for OS4 (well, I have never used one, but I plan to do so sooner or later). After reading your post I have some questions:
- Should I expected an idle task with such a high profiling count in every program? - Is a view of the functions causing cache misses planned? - Once we find which functions are the most heavy, is there any way to find which instructions inside them are the most heavy?
And happy birthday btw :)
