@MartinW

the problem is neither the gfx card nor the monitor...not even the driver is at fault.

the problem is that graphics.library (i think it was) is outdated and refuses to take perfectly fine frequencies into account, which is why they are being locked out completely from later usage.

since, e g. there can be a 4k mode running at 30 Hz, this wont ever be shown, listed or used because of aforementioned library shortcomings.

I just realized that your libcurl is asking for libpthread.so...which i don't have :-/

LINK     scummvm

:Coding/SDK/gcc/ppc-amigaos/bin/ldwarninglibpthread.soneeded by /SDK/local/newlib/lib/libcurl.sonot found (try using -rpath or -rpath-link)

found it in sobjs: ... grmbl

@Maijestro

Well, still the ISI crash when starting ScummVM without an .ini file.

Got the unfreed signals with
scummvm -version

and a crash after loading for different engines and quit

But more importantly would be your YouTube crashes and other random ones you got, since now the stack has been raised to 8 MB internally

general thought

i wonder if there would be a way to enhance Grim Reaper/the system to show if there was a stack overrun causing the crash...or whatever

@Raziel

New version up

- stack cookie at 8 MB
- libcurl latest version

the exit crash and unfreed signals are still in there, though

Perhaps you would like to make the source code available to Raziel so that he can use it for future versions. Maybe you have a better idea how we can use your libcurl.so.12 permanently. ?

no need...

Quote:

It is not yet included in SDL2 from Capehill and some applications use statically linked SDL2 libraries, as I was told. So we should include this library permanently to avoid problems with newer versions of ScummVM.

...as this latest libcurl release will be used as default for new builds
Also, the nice thing about shared objects or libraries is that i dont need the source, you can simply switch out the .so library (otherwise you wouldnt have been able to test anything without a new scummvm build --> difference of shared to static builds)

Quote:

Edit: I forgot to mention that I am currently using 2 exe files...one with stack 1024000 and 4000000 with stack 4000000 everything seems to be ok with 1024000 there is a DSI again

well...
- setting your stack locally to 1 MB wont reduce ScummVMs stack which is set to 2 MB via the stack cookie
- your test with a 4 MB stack already helps, ill probably settle with a stack of 8 MB even to be on the safe side (via the stack cookie)

Could you send me the new libcurl aswell?
If you got time...

I can't check right now, but i have set softlinks to different destinations to cover all possibilities, so it might very well be that i have a softlink set to S: too.

also noticed that your installer creates a ScummVM.info in the installed directory without a folder.

that is the folder icon which i cannot install otherwise.
amigaos installer doesnt know about the directory *above* the install directory, hence the folder icon is placed *inside* the install directory.

if a new version is updated through amiupdate that problem isnt there.

nothing i can do about

@Maijestro

Ok...so a lot of ground to cover, please bear with me.

1) Nope, nothing special, just do your usual testing where you reach the crash, save the log and post it here or over at the crashlog site of os4depot.net

2) Unfortunately the test build was deleted from the share...i have to do a new one when i get home (end of next week)
You could try to get a daily build over at scummvm.org, but i'm not sure if their builds are debug builds (also their builds doesn't have all the features compiled in, which may taint the result, but it would be better than nothing - i don't want to slow down the momentum, now that @balaton is here as well)

3) Just for the sake of completeness, could you, if time permits, compile a list of crashes with their exact steps to reproduce?
I'd like to do a comparision to rule out shortcomings of the internet access under emulation - it might still be not 100% accurate/error prone and could possibly produce crashes where there are none on native hardware)
Not that i say there are, just to be sure...and if there are emulation triggered bugs, you could post them to the WinUAE bugtracker instead...

Thanks a lot

@Maijestro

just to be sure...as i cant make out the version of scummvm you are basing your tests on...is that 2.8.0 release or the test build i uploaded?

because 2.8.0 used an older libcurl...hence .11, while the *unreleased* test build is using the latest release from os4depot...hence .12

@Maijestro

heh...lets make it a rule everyone *has* to prove he/she owns amigaos4 and/or 68k...otherwise ome could not possibly add something meaningful to the forum

/irony off

as long as its moderated there shouldnt be a big problem, should it?

heck, i even ask for Linux and Windows help once in a while and mostly got usable, civil and nice answers

then again, all of this is about news items, so maybe it would be a compromise to add subfora for mos, aros, AfA, emulation and such?

i mean there already are a lot of dead software subfora rotting away in amigans.net
