Re: Qt Native News

@alfkil

Well, I'm not a coder, so I cannot help you much here.

Just to let you know that I would appreciate *a lot* a QT native (!) port.

This will have both a massive impact for us, Amiga users, in terms of potential new ports and/or new native apps (easier to be ported on other platforms) and will have a massive impact outside (can you imagine going at the QT Developer Day showing off an Amiga?!?!?!?).

@TheDaddy

The motherboard already have usb connectors.
In order to use them, you require something I showed (you need to change the connector pins on the motherboard to something like standard female USB connector type A). Such cable is not an adaptor, simply a cable.

So you don't require to connect anything to the rear of the machine, as long you keep all these cables within the case.

Summarizing:
cd-rom > sata cable > sata to usb adaptor > usb cable > motherboard

@DAX

Well, I don't care if I loose the PCI-express 1x, I still have the PCI-express 4x for the video card.

@TheDaddy
With something llike this you can connect usb devices directly to the motherboard

@TheDaddy

Suppose you've got two sata devices: 1) Hard Disk and 2) cdrom.

On your motherboard (Sam460) you've got only one SATA connector and on that you plug your 1) Hard Disk bacause you require speed and a lot of data transfer will going on.

As for 2) the cdrom you can connect it to the sata plug on the adaptor, and the adaptor on the usb plug on your motherboard.

Sam460: a possible solution for the lack of SATA ports

I was looking for an alternative solution for the lack of a second internal SATA port of the Sam460.
I'm not happy with the proposed PCI card for adding more SATA ports and I don't want external boxes around for additional devices.

In order to add a cdrom as an internal device, the idea is to use a USB to SATA adaptor, as I don't think such device requires much in terms of data transfer.

There are many USB to SATA adpators out there, I think I will go for this one:

Some specs of this adaptor

Well, the question now is if UBoot does supports usb cdrom for booting.

@abalaban

Thanks a lot for your answer!
I'm not worry at all for your delay, I'm accustomed to Amiga long cycles! Yes, I've donated, but I don't feel angry at all, just curious.

Sorry for your CPU module and I hope that your motivation will turn up, after all the Amiga is a passion, it's not a job!
I can imagine that developing on a slow Sam440 it's not the best, but soonish a new speedy Sam460 can better fit the requirement of a developer.

Keep it up, also slowly, but keep it up!
We cannot afford of losing any developer at all!

Just I'm curious about the status of the WxWidgets port.
Anyone heard anything from it?
Still assigned to Alexandre Balaban?
Last official update on AmigaBounty was posted on mid February...

I really thank you a lot Joerg,
without you I doubt I would turn on my Sam instead of my PC for some browsing.

I really looking forward to use OWB on a new Sam460: my poor super mega GHz PC will be very much hit by this combination!

I agree totally about the creation of a specific forum area for Python.
As ARexx will not be further developed and will still 68k forever, it might be a good idea to (at least) start stimulating the community about a new scripting solution and I think Python could fullfill the task.
Go Python, go!

@Snuffy
Why just one volunteer?
Because I'm only asking to give it a straight compile try, I'm really dumb on this...

@ spotUP
Not for production quality sites of course, only development or simply for fun.

Cherokee webserver port: anyone?

Just tried out the Chrerokee webserver and I must admit that is quite speedy. It could be really useful for Sam440 owners and their slow processor.

By checking the requirements it does seems that there are no blocking dependancies (but I could be wrong).
I tried compiling it but I'm such a crap with C sources that I gave up.
Any volunteer?

I really like to improve my python usage on Amiga.
What is stopping me is that there is no way to manage gui elements for creating a standalone software as the native gui system TkInter is missing.
Luckily Rogue said that he might implement in the future a Reaction module: finger crossed!

Just would like to ask if somebody has yet tried porting the spreadsheet called Ignition on OS4.

I still find this piece of software quite unexpectedly useful, so it would be nice to use it natively.

Re: Optimizing AAMP

@cygnusEd

It would be great to improve a bit your installation script!

For example you could ask the user some of the configuration details of the package such as the service user and password, the default ports for each service, which character set should be used as a default, the http server domain name and so.

To have an idea of the installation process of the three software on windows you can check these sites:
- MySQL configuration steps
- Apache configuration steps
- PHP configuration steps

Keep it up Edgar!
AAMP is a great achievement!

@alfkil

Tried your demos and I must admit that never I though it could be possible to see a QT app on my little Sam! Impressed!
Yes, of course with my cpu speed its dead slow, but faster ones are coming so it is really great to have QT supported on our (well, on AmiCygnix at least) platform!
Thanks!

Well, I'm very disappointed with the dropped support for SVG:
I use it in my everyday routine.

Please, release both versions, with and without!
