@JosDuchIt

Please launch "Cygnix:myX11Setup" and choose your desired screenmode in the first line. Relaunch the AmiCygnix desktop afterwards.

I can't make a direct comparison to JosDuchIt's setup because I use a custom script to start AmiCygnix from a shell but a quick test of starting AmiCygnix and running AbiWord didn't cause any crashes.Since others have reported AmiCygnix working too, maybe JosDuchit needs a reinstall of AmiCygnix.

Yes, I think this could help.

AmiCygnix is adding several environmental variables including a PATH variable. Other programs (Linux ports?) set the same variable to a different value. Check the topic "CMake progress" here on Amigans.net and you will see that people are being told to set a completely different PATH variable. I recommend changing all the AmiCygnix variables to something like "CYGPATH" or similar.

Since AmiCygnix 1.0 all programs are using environment variables stored in "ENVARC:Cygnix". The other variables including PATH are only set for the unix shell 'sh'. I know, this can be tricky.

BTW: The PATH variable is only set, if it does not exist before.

If I run Snoopy after AmiCygnix has started and I open AbiWord I see this constantly repeated:
lxpanel : o.k. = [exec] FindPort("XGeekTransPort.0") [2uS]
openbox : o.k. = [exec] FindPort("XGeekTransPort.0") [2uS]
Is that really necessary?

This occurs, when "quick transfer" is activated. Please launch "Cygnix:S/Utilities/Quick-Transfer-Off.bat" and it should disappear. This feature will be removed in future versions.

@JosDuchIt

renaming is O.K., but it is better to disable it in the settings.
Go to the main directory of AmiCygnix ("Cygnix:") and launch myX11setup. Choose "(no desktopmanager)" in the line "DesktopManager" and save the settings.
You will loose your icons on the desktop. iDesk is known to be a bit buggy. I'll try to fix it.

very bad news. Can you check the stack size of the crashed programs e.g with "scout"?

@xenic

I did not install update 1 yet. At the moment I have no problems launching the desktop, while snoopy is running.

Here is the shell output while running "Cygnix:s/Start_XGeek.bat" with "set ECHO on":

And here the snoopy log:

Will try to install update 1, when I find my password...

@Cass

Which window manager do you use? Still Openbox?

Can you try to launch the panel by hand after startup by typing "lxpanel" into a shell? (stack min. 1000000). Does it also crash?

@JosDuchIt

Please try to deactivate "xshutdowntool" by starting the script "Cygnix:S/Utilities/Use-xshutdowntool-Off.bat" from Workbench.

Maybe also launch "Cygnix:S/Utilities/Quick-Transfer-Off.bat".

I'll try to recompile "xdummy", maybe this helps.

@ mufa + 328gts

Because of time reaseons there is no progress since my last post above. The fix is still uncomplete, but if you send me a mail address, I can send you the current display libraries. It is good enough for working with AmiCygnix, but there are some minor gfx problems left.

BTW: The problem is not FE, it's because newer gfx cards do only support low endian gfx data.

I know, I should publish this patch on os4-depot. Hope I will find some time next week.

@pvanni

The only way to switch between the loaders is to install and remove them. Of course you have to relaunch gimp afterwards.

@pvanni

Exif is enabled in port, but you have to use the original loaders to benefit from this. The internal loaders do not support this. So if you want to handle exif data of a jpeg file for example, you must install the "file-jpeg" plug-in, which comes with the first loader package available on os4-depot.

Unfortunately this will slowdown loading and saving jpeg files .

@walkero

There will be only bugfixes in the next release, sorry. There are many things I would like to implement, but I don't have the time for it. And unfortunately the colour problem is very hard to solve..

But several updates/bugfixes of these packages are near completion:
* Abiword (bugfix)
* Gnumeric (bugfix)
* EasyTAG 2.1.8 (update)
* Homebank 4.6.3 (update)
* ufraw 0.22 (update)

Hope I will find some time to complete this soon.

@Antique

Yes I'm working on it, but I was not able to fix it completely until now. I can send you a beta version if you like. Only a few gfx is still wrong.

You said, that the picasso96wb driver is slow on your system. Which hardware do you use? On my SAM460 this driver is one of the fastest.

@kilaueabart

Yes - true. The World Wide Web kills it all.

AmiCygnix may well support UTF-8 internally, but it might convert to local charset on the system-wide clipboard. You can find out by inspecting the clipboard with something like IFFMaster after copying some data to it.

All GTK+ 2 programs are working with UTF-8 internally. If you copy something to clipboard, it is converted to the charset set by the environment variable "Cygnix/CHARSET" using iconv (through glib).
Data is only stored in a CHRS chunk.

@kilaueabart

The current version of NetSurf in AmiCygnix is outdated, don't use it for everyday use. It is only for internal things like viewing documentations etc.

As Chris said before, HTML 5 is needed.

You should be able to copy the link in the address widget with "RAmiga + C", but it is not possible to copy page content.

I recommend SMtube from OS4-depot for youtube!

If you have it nearly ready, why not?
I guess saving a document with AbiWord under html, it can be usefull to manipulate the images you want to insert.
Maybe Gimp users see an usage too ?

As ImageMagick is a CLI set of programs, don't we need a shell under AmiCygnix to run it?

I don't think that it will be useful for AbiWord or especially Gimp users. "Display" a nice tool for displaying and editing pictures. Maybe interesting for people, who know it from their Linux system.

You can launch every AmiCygnix commandline tool from a normal Amiga shell. Or you can add it to Rox-Filer, the file manager from the AmiCygnix tools package. Or you launch it with an standalone script (like it is Included in every new AmiCygnix program package) without loading the desktop and with an display window on the workbench (needs about a second to load).

Unfortunately I discovered a problem. Currently "Display" and "Animate" have problems with displaying 24bit pictures on the 16bit display of the X server (the only depth currently supported by my X server). The colors are mixed up. Only reducing the colors to 65536 colors will show the correct colors. So I think it makes no sense to publish my package, before I was able to fix this.

convert -background lightblue -gravity center -size 180x "pango:The <b>bold</b> and <i>beautiful</i>" ram:pango_formatting.gif

This line no work => "Device not configured"

This would only work with my AmiCygnix versions as it includes Pango support.

I have a port of ImageMagick-6.8.8-10 for AmiCygnix here including "animate" and "display". Seems to be fully functional. If there is enough interest, I can publish a special AmiCygnix package.
