Re: Web Hosting

@AmiGame

Why not buy some webspace from Amigans? This is a dedicated server so they could allocate you some space and set all the DNS stuff up? Its not my decision but it could be a good way of supporting Amigans and at the same time not having to share a server with tons of people who you don't know.

Re: Posted an A1200 vid on YouTube

@Outcast

Thanks for the comment dude. Not sure what you could do as an A1 vid. I suppose watch the A1 vids already on there and do something completely different!

Good thing about you and I, we are not backwards in coming forward so we make ideal YouTube presenters!

My first one, hopefully of a series. I thought it was about time I gave something back to youtube as I watch it for many hours a week.

Re: New IRC channel for classic Amigas

There is about 10-11 people in there at peak times now so its going OK. You are all welcome, classic Amiga and retro computing is the basis of the channel but you can talk about anything really, its really nice.

Re: New IRC channel for classic Amigas

@A1200

What's the score? Who's it for?

Well its for people like me really, who want to chat and ask questions about old Amiga. Being nostalgic about the Amiga means:

- No worries on the outcome of the lawsuit
- Who cares if no one continues with a new OS
- Hardware is only a problem if you don't have an eBay account :)

By all means have fun with new software and push your classics to the max, but don't try to make them replace a modern PC or Mac becuase that just spoils the fun of Amiga.

If you do come to the channel, VERSION me. I am running Grapevine IRC on my A600HD - Standard 68000/7MHz with 2MB RAM, running WiFi!

@Samurai_Crow

Well I am not going to police it, although I am the FOP on chanserv. If no one is pushing for a revolution, I see no reason why not

Emulation is a classic route too I suppose

A1000-A4000 machines (non-PPC/OS4). Keeping it real as it were. Pure nostalgia.

Your A600 and A1200 WiFi connected for under a tenner!

That's right! I have just written a post on aw.net on how to get an A600/A1200 online wirelessly for under 10 UKP.

See link here.

Re: Amiga Guru Book petition

Sounds like egotistic ramblings from someone who didn't get attention from his parents. Every film made is on a torrent site before it is even finished at the movie theatre, yet alone available for rental and sale on DVD, and yet it is a VERY lucrative industry.

Amiga enthusiasts will buy anything with the word Amiga on it, so what's the guy's problem.

I won't be voting.

Yeah you are probably right there mate. I will play with one and see what happens, then possibly sell or use the others for something else.

Modded A600

Anyone on Amigans interested in this? I originally posted on aw.net but would like an oppinion from all camps as it were:

I have just acquired a number of MC68010 PLCC CPU's and their sockets. I am going to put one into my A600, but I have also bought some spare A600 motherboards, to make sure it all goes to plan. There is a very slight incompatibility with the 68010 from the 68000 but it would only affect a small number of software titles (mainly games).

What you do get is a 10% boost of the performance of the A600 and the accolade of having a MC68010 CPU. This would be perfect for classic Amiga owners who use mainly Workbench apps and suchlike.

Just a few questions:

1: Would anyone be interested in buying a 68010 powered A600?
2: If so, would it be preferred a complete system or just the motherboard?
3: Would you prefer me to buy and install the 3.1 ROM and/or 1MB RAM upgrade or just the CPU mod?
4: Is there a market for a nice (not crazy) upgraded A600 machine? The spec:

A600 machine (clean, not yellowed)
2MB Chip mem
512MB Flash HDD with Workbench 3.1 installed
Kickstart 3.1 ROM
68010 Upgrade

In terms of pricing, I am not wanting to make money but could do the 68010 A600 board with UK shipping for about 20 pounds. A board populated with 3.1 ROM and 2MB board would be around 50-60 pounds (depending on eBay prices) and the whole kick-ass system as mentioned above would be about 120-130 pounds.

Just wondering if any of you had a passion for the cute Amiga and wanted it modded up without the grief. As you may know, I have recently acquired another A600 which I have upgraded, see: http://www.amiga.org/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=3874

I had the 2nd "extreme" A600 project (amiga600.net) which I sold off and pulled the website down some time ago, however I have come back to the scene a little recently so I may put the site online again and update it with more Amiga stuff.

Let me know what you think.....

Mike (A1200)

Could be....

22:32] <SeverinA1> a1200: sounds like one of the chips has packed up on your ram board
[22:34] <a1200> SeverinA1: seems like it could be a RAM error doesn't it?
[22:34] <a1200> not allowing the fonts to mapped to a particular adress
[22:35] <SeverinA1> yes, have you cleaned the contacts ?
[22:35] <a1200> yup
[22:35] <a1200> could try removing the FPU?
[22:36] <SeverinA1> with plain a4 paper for the mobo side?
[22:36] <SeverinA1> no point ww doesn't it
[22:36] <a1200> The board does not touch the any of the metal etc.
[22:36] <SeverinA1> + use
[22:37] <a1200> yeah and I have use math programs with no problem
[22:37] <SeverinA1> go hunt for a nice accelerator to replace it, 030 50 or similar
[22:38] <a1200> I have an 030 at work, but its on ebay cos it plays up lol

Wordworth and Blizzard 1200/4

OK I don't normally post the same thread on another site, I believe that each site is worthy of its own content. But this problem is bugging me so much I want everyone to help. Here goes:

OK we are going to solve this! Ready?

Let me start by saying my Blizzard 1200/4 is the most stable, reliable upgrade I have ever had since using Amiga. It simply does not crash, freeze or any such antics.

For those not familiar with the board it is a surface mount 4MB board, real time clock and has an FPU socket, which my board is occupied with a 33MHz 68882 with corresponding crystal.

Right, I had a problem where I THOUGHT that Wordworth V5 was corrupt or something see here:

http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/v ... p?topic_id=23147&forum=27

OK I thought WW4 was a workaround (assuming it would work, being part of the magic pack). It did not.

Symptoms: Intellifonts and clipart do not appear or fonts appear as lines or black gibberish.

So determined it was a software issue, and I wanted to run Wordworth so I formatted both partitions of my hard drive. Now all that is on DH0: is Workbench 3.1 and all that is on DH1: is Wordworth 4SE (Magic Pack version).

The problem STILL happened until I removed my RAM board and the problem then went away.

My question: What the *!@$ is the problem?

I like running a classic machine, but 2MB RAM is too little. I will buy a different RAM board if I need to but there must be an answer to this. Another word processor is another workaround but I have been using Wordworth for years on other Amigas and this SHOULD work!!

Please help.
