Re: Amiga History: Cloanto promised OS4 software?

Why would they need to do that? Doesn't the settlement with AInc give them the right to use the kickstart files and sell them?

Maybe they can agree with Cloanto for them to sell a bundle of 68k software to run under UAE in AOS4. Or bundles: a productivity one (like wp, spreadsheet, database, etc), graphics, games bundles, etc.

More players have submitted their highscores; and some unbelieveable times!!

Finished a couple more levels. Glad to see I still have some 1 places.

I think he is refering to the people working now in the pygame port for AOS4: they are AOS4 users and interested in developing for AOS4, not AOS3. SO the answer is that they are not interested in porting it to ASO3.

Would be better to start a new thread to get someone interested in porting it to AOS3 instead of keeping this discussion in an AOS4 thread, or ask directly to someone like bernd_afa who still develops for AOS3 if he would be interested.

@spotUP

Why not upload your version with a different archive name (the library name stays the same), like libjpeg6b.lha and make it clear in the readme that this version is for pygame compatibility? Also, porters of games that use pygame should indicate your version in the requirements of their ports.

@kas1e

I like this game very much, good to see it available for AOS4.

When I played it in my Debian machine (AMD Turion X2 1.6, Radeon X1250. Not a beast but good enough for most stuff), sometimes it crawled after some minutes playing. Less than 10 FPS I think (800x600 fullscreen screenmode). Can't test it now because the version in Debian testing is not working.

That said, I made a quick test to make sure that Quique's times were realistic: without playing a perfect game (i.e. I wasted some 3-5 seconds), I could complete "0. first approach" in 56 seconds, 3 seconds less than the current record - and anybody can do that

So, there is room for improvement then. I'll replay missions again after I finish all of them. Just started the high difficulty ones.

One thing that has a major impact on performance is the screenmode: the key is using the smallest zoom factor possible. Especially, there's a huge difference between 1x zoom and 2x zoom (if you're interested, I can explain the technical details)

I'm using fullscreen 1680x1050. That is 4x zoom I think. Maybe I should try a 2x fullscreen mode

@nexus

I rock!!! For now at least...

I'm running BOH in my Debian machine. But when I played it in AOS4 (A1SE) it seemed smoother. My Debian installation is for AMD64, but using 32-bit libraries for running BOH (don't know if that has much impact in performance).

Edit: I run Debian in my Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop (AMD Turion X2 TL-60 1.6GHz) using its keyboard but connected to my 21" CRT monitor when playing BOH

Did you compile the cross compilers yourself or did you take precompiled binaries?

No, I downloaded Joachim Birging's x86_64 version.

The gcc 4.4.4 branch can be found in the branches directory of the adtools project (http://www.sf.net/projects/adtools). The gcc 4.2.4 branch is trunk at the moment. There is also a file with instructions how to compile a cross compiler (improvements to this file are very welcome). Questions regarding the process should be directed to the adtools mailing list.

Thanks, I'll give it a try then.

@afxgroup

This works for statically linkage, as suggested by Trev at UtilityBase:

ppc-amigaos-g++ -o hello++ hello++.cpp -lstdc++ -lgcc_eh

But for dinamic linkage I now get

/usr/local/amiga/lib/gcc/ppc-amigaos/4.2.4/../../../../ppc-amigaos/bin/ld: hellocpp: hidden symbol `__gtdf2' in /usr/local/amiga/lib/gcc/ppc-amigaos/4.2.4/libgcc.a(_gt_df.o) is referenced by DSO
/usr/local/amiga/lib/gcc/ppc-amigaos/4.2.4/../../../../ppc-amigaos/bin/ld: final link failed: Nonrepresentable section on output
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

using

ppc-amigaos-g++ -use-dynld -o hellocpp hello.cpp

or

ppc-amigaos-g++ -use-dynld -o hellocpp hello.cpp -lstdc++ -lgcc

@emeck

Ok, next issue.

The C "Hello World" test program compiled without errors and worked in an AOS4.x machine (thanks for testing Thematic). But the C++ "Hello World" test throws many undefined references, like:
/home/zerohero/svn/gcc-build/ppc-amigaos/libstdc++-v3/libsupc++/../../../../adtools-gcc-4.4.2/libstdc++-v3/libsupc++/vterminate.cc:80: undefined reference to `_Unwind_SjLj_Resume'

I have libsupc++ and libstdc++ in /usr/local/amiga/lib/gcc/ppc-amigaos/4.4.3/newlib/lib/ and /usr/local/amiga/lib/gcc/ppc-amigaos/4.4.3/clib2/lib/ in my SDK tree.

How can I fix that problem? Did I missed something?

Yes, I think. An executable was created and no warnings nor errors showed in the console. Don't have a working AOS4.x machine now , so I'll also need to find a willing betatester.

Cross compilation first steps

Hello,

I had setup the SDK for cross compiling in my Debian machine (following Joachim Birging's and Nicolas Mendoza's guides) and want to give it a try, but need some help. Practically I'm starting from zero.

So, after getting the source code I'm interested, first thing would be to see what dependencies it has, right? The best way for that would be looking in the makefile or cmakelists if there aren't available in other place?

If those dependencies are available for AmigaOS4.x, where should I put them?

I think that is enough for a start Thanks for any help.

Re: ASL File Requesters suck

@kas1e

Instead of showing the extension (like .jpg) in the Format dropdown list, I think it should be better to put a list of the formats available, as in:

Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG/JFIF)
Exchangeable image file format (Exif)
Tagged Image File Format (TIFF)
Portable Network Graphics (PNG)
Graphics Interchange Format (GIF)
Windows bitmap (BMP)
Computer Graphics Metafile (CGM)
Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG)

That way, the user can use the extension he/she wants (jpg or jpeg, tiff or tif, if any extension at all). Same for wordprocessor's documents, spreadsheets, texts, etc.
