Re: List of wanted Software

@smf

Hi, thx for the suggestion, I have a registered copy of Multiren. Once you get used to it, it's very powerful, but it can be a little counterintuitive at times. Maybe Denil715 has interest in a second version?
Besides that it does not work reliably anymore, I'm not 100% sure but it was after a MUI update.

Oh dear, I hope I won't have to wait 3 more months to be able to download MultiView and MultiEdit. Matthew posted the news last November www.amigans.net/Updater_Tool_latest_releases_and_updates

So I have already waited 2x 3 months..

Enjoy your vacation and don't forget to cover yourself in mud if you don't want to use sunscreen!

@kas1e

Not sure if it is something different you are looking for, but ANN has vertical selection. It's called "rectangular selection". You can find the entry in the Settings Menu: Settings>Rectangular Selection. The Keyboard shortcut is RAmiga-y.

GoldEd (CubicIDE) has that too, but as already said it's 68k. And as Trixie wrote also StormED has vertical selection.

Maybe you can use Windows a little less now!

List of wanted Software
Quite a regular
Quite a regular

Just to maybe inspire willing Developers, I thought to open a new tread where we can suggest needed software. Of course the obvious for many are a Webbrowser and Office Suite, which I deem too big for a single developer, but I'll list them for completeness.

I will update this first post if suggestions come in, maybe, maybe there could be a poll later on to assign priority.

- Web Browser
- Office Suite (To me an up-to-date Wordworth or Final Writer and TurboCalc would suffice)
- ignition is being worked on and seems to come along well.
- Gutenprint
- Network Stack

- Update for Synergy Client or Server (www.symless.com). Exists as part of UHCTools -thx smf- but the Meta-key (LAmiga and RAmiga) do not work as of 2019-10-17.
- Update:mp3 Tag software (post #13 #27 #47)Probably already in AmiStore upload queque. Thanks @jvp!
- Compare Folders Utility with options to copy, move, rename entries Partially exists Post #21, #29
- Duplicate files finder with a nice GUI to automatically select, compare, move and delete duplicates. WEx has it partially implemented
- File Renamer. Drop Files to the app, and rename multiple files in an easy way. Already exists as MultiRen by OnyxSoft
- A font engine which supports colour fonts (specifically OTF-SVG)[...] This would mean we get colour scalable fonts, including Emojis. Post #39
-Bible App viewer as proposed by Samurai_Crow on AW Link to Topic akin to Bibvision

p.s. Please, any developer do not feel offended, this is not intended to diminish any work you have done so far on any project. Just a list where you can maybe find something interesting to work out.

@mritter0

Thx for starting another Project and holding on on AmigaOS.
Arexx and AmigaDOS script would be my preference too.

On a side note we so often get many concurring software projects in Amiga-land.

Now we have lots of editors in CodeBench, CubicIDE (ok does not count as it's sadly not maintained and not OS4 native), MultiEdit, CED and Annotate 3 and now Struct. :)

Oh, one more thing. There are two versions of the Sapphire RX 560: a regular model, and a low-power one (marketed as "the 45W" version). As the packing is the same for both models, make sure your dealer sells you the 45 Watt version.

I still have not looked into it.. Many thanks for the hint!

@HansQuote:
Try plugging the KVM into a different USB port. My X1000 is plugged into a 4-port ATEN DVI KVM, and it works well. I found that it works fine if I plug it in to any USB port apart from the first one. I bought a cheap keyboard to plug into the first port so that I can still use CFE's early start menu.

Hans

Hi,
yes thanks for the hint. As I already wrote on my previous post, that works, but I dislike the idea of having two keyboards connected.
When I was using Linux on the X1k the KVM was more or less useless, as I could use synergy when the OS had booted and for everything else the 2nd keyboard was needed anyway to choose which OS should be booted.

Now the X1000 has become an AmigaOS4 only machine. So the problem is kind of solved.

What I would love to have was a Synergy Client for OS4 or MKShare to understand it's protocol.

The best KVM I could find so far is the StarTech SV431 with DDM, the OS was definitely more stable, as this model prevented the USB stack having to recognise the Keyboard and Mouse anew each time I switched, which somehow made my system a little more unstable.

Re: (Working) KVM Switch anyone?

@Raziel

I've tested quite a number of KVM's. The only one which worked always in CFE on the X1000 was the ATEN CS21 but it's VGA. It has two dedicated USB cables, one for mouse and one for the keyboard.

All the other ones prevented the X1000 from booting from switched off status when the switches where connected to the "keyboard-usb-port". If connected to any other USB port the computer boots from switched off status most of the times.
However If I connected the usb switch after OS4 has loaded up, then a cold reboot would happen every time and I could use the keyboard in CFE for that session. Once I switched off the X1000, then I'll have to disconnect the KVMs again and reconnect later after OS4 had booted to have them working the way they should.

The other one wich works quite reliably and has not produced any grim reaper due to the USB stack not liking fast consecutive swithes is the StarTech.com SV431DVIUDDM.
It kind of keeps the signatures of the monitor, keyboard and mouse in a memory and make the input devices appear to be "connected" to the OS all the time, even though the signals are redirected to the selected/desired computer/port.
It is a very fast switch and the monitor does not loose the signal either.
Unfortunately it has the CFE issue too, it acts as a HUB and only one USB cable carries the signals of Mouse and keyboard (and 2 additional USB ports which can be switched separately to the 4 computer using keyboard shortcuts)

oh as a side note, besides the fact that the idea o having 2 keyboards connected to X1000 is quite annoying to me (if you need to select linux in CFE boot screen) it makes os4 more unstable (linux side copes with it without problems). So it is not advisable.

Nice! :))
Thanks for the tip! I've noted the card on my To-Buy list. The X5000 has a Radeon R7 250 installed at the moment.

@LyleHaze

I am using a Marcom CPU cooler on the X1000 too.
It's not the passive cooled one but another model.

I swapped the fan with a BeQuiet model and it's so quiet I can not hear it.
The noise Db App I have on the phone does not hear it either.

Just to give an idea of the sensibility of the App, if have the phone at about 1m from the cloth mouse pad, and I just barely touch the mousepad and wiggle with the finger, the app registers an increase of noise.

Should you need to change the CPU Cooler in future, I have a couple of Macrom's Coolers stored somewhere.

About the graphics cards.. IIRC the new RadeonRX driver does support lowering the power consumption of the cards and the card should then decrease the fan speed. I searched on Hans de Ruiters websites but could not find the news anymore.
