Re: Transmissioncli

Not too shy to talk

Now more sites are using magnet links also. How to deal with that?

I got the transmissioncli and GUI-versions from os4depot as well as the ctorrent versions. Torrent on the Amiga seems to be a no-go for me untill something newer is ported.

Last time I used CTorrent it was slow most of the times and didn't always work (download never began even though it worked on the PC with the same torrent).

Ports settings are correct off course and some torrents has been downloaded fine with transmissioncli.

You mean the GUI-version where you have to find the right tracker and then it might work? Here downloads are really slow. Also didn't someone report that the ratio was destroyed on a site when he use ctorrent?

It's a really old torrent-client but I might give the CLI-version a try, thanks.

Transmissioncli

I'm wondering if someone is able to make an updated of transmissioncli? I don't care if it got a GUI or not if found and still find this version to work best/easiest for my needs however it doesn't work so well anymore, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Alos it ads a '.' at the beginning of directories/files being downloaded.

Has something changed regarding the sourcecode that makes it difficult to compile a new version or is it lack of time/interest?

I would be really happy if a newer version was released. Am I the only person in need of a torrent-client for AOS? I don't see much writing about the subject. Sure I can use my PC or my Android phone to download torrents but it's always nice to be able to do so in AOS.

Two things. When you're developing this port further don't become MS and think that just because it's runing ok on the X1000 it'll be enough. It worries me a lot when I think about the Netbook that will surely be underpowered.

The other things when we talk about optimization is about rendering speed. Will it always take this long to launch it? Will it always use up this much RAM? Also everything is sluggish on my machine like switching tabs, open the prefs etc. I had about 5 tabs open and I had 331MB free RAM left out of 1GB.

Other than that it was stable and more things was working compared to the old alpha but it was way too slow to be usable. I got an A1 XE with a G4 @ 800MHz. MUIOWB currently feels like a rocket in comparison.

Re: Filer status?

I got a small question that isn't specific to Filer but I thought that I should ask anyway. When it comes to disk operations it anoys me that the speed is so different between applications and AOS itself. Since update 3 copying/moving files bekame really quick in AOS when using workbench/shell to copy/move files while DOPus 4 came in second place and Filer last. With update 2 on the other hand I believe that Filer was equally fast as AOS.

This is anoying because I really like Filer.. and DOpus 4 as well actually but I was using Filer almost exclusively when it was working. Powerfull, easy to use, looking nice. So when the new version is released I would love for it to be as fast when it comes to disk operations as AOS.

I also wonder if anyone got any ideas why the result is different? I thought these kinds of applications used system functions and therefor the speed should be the same? I've clocked copying the same file (an ISO) between the three and there are some big differences between them on my machine.

And the machine is an A1 XE. Can't remember if I used the SII0680-card or the SII3512 but AFAIK the speed is similar. I used the same file and harddisks in all programs though. Also I don't think that this is something new, it's been this way forever AFAIK, even back to the 3.x days.

Ragarding the "perfect for gaming" comment... are we gonna play Doom 3 forever?! That is an old game by computer standards! Sure it's nice to have it runing on an Amiga but hey, I've played through that game a couple of times in Windows and also on Linux using WinE. It was really fast on both I'd like to add.

So what about anything newer than Doom 3 and Quake 4?

Oh it doesn't matter, the platform won't get anything newer or better gamewise so it doesn't matter. I WILL play throuh Doom 3 once again once it's possible but damn this is depressing... sorry but it is. It is such a loooong way to go.

@Kicko

I had this exact behaviour and it's the PSU that was dying (logical) so it would be a good idea to change it. I bought a cheap one at Jula that is working great this far. I also got rid of some hangs caused by loosing power to hard-drives.

Unless you're going to sell it in that condition and enjoy your X1000 when it arrives?

I've been using this one:

Except for Transmission (for Linux) and it is similar to uTorrent. I'd like to see that one ported.

I'm amazed by how well the GUI looks and fits AOS 4 now. Also since we're talking about these kinds of software, would it be possible to port a MSN client like KMess? SabreMSN works really well but it's always good with options.

Maybe Kopete since some user's been asking for ICQ.

But can you send files through a Jabber server to a MSN client? I thought that only jabber-jabber was allowed?

You download getvideo from aminet.net. You use it with Clipdown fromm os4depot.net by copying the link to the video so it works with any browser.
