How to get the best quality sound out of Tunenet?
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

I want the best quality sound on Tunenet on OS4.1 with Sam440ep-667, without tying up audio resources.. so I can still hear chat and email alerts... what settings do I need in AHI, Mixer, and Tunenet?

It sounds a little bit not great at the moment.......

Does Tunenet sound settings take effect as soon as you change them, or do you need a restart?

I get errors on SMBFS when I have more than 1 share running.. it fails to copy and removes the destination copy....

I just submitted a bug report.

@thread

I'm playing with full Samba at the moment. It installed easily, and Mikey_C's guide was perfect, but I can only access my shares with smbclient .. is there a way to mount it as an AmigaDOS volume? That would be very very handy.

SabreMSN 0.58 - 2009-08-24 - Multiple accounts support/login window
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Report the bugs to me and I'll try and fix them. If the behavior of the login window is too weird, please describe how you would like it to function, and I'll try and rectify it. I had no idea when I was making it! But.. be kind. :)

Theres a few things I wasnt too happy with, but this will do for now. :/ I'm a little bit unsure about the massive spacing I used around the gui elements in the login window, but we're edging very close to a v1.0 release here!

Time for a rest.. and to implement file transfers next? I have my best man on the job. MickJT is busy figuring out the protocol for me. If SabreMSN gets file transfers soon, you can thank him for doing the leg work. (btw, file transfers and avatars use the same protocol as I understand it.. so.. fingers crossed.)

http://wookiechat.amigarevolution.com/wip4/login_plain.png

2009-08-24: Alpha 58
- Added a login window, with support for multiple accounts
- Last "online status" is remembered when you disconnect
- The "user has been OFFLINE Since" string in tabs was incorrect. It was updating when
switching to the active tab. Whoops. I save the "offline since" string when the user
is offline now.
- Clicking INVITE a second time (for initiating group chats) will close the Invite List
- Added an ugly looking Close Tab button to the chat tabs :) I'll replace it with a red
X when I have time, and can be bothered.
- MSN has these servers called switchboards.. The clients create them, then invite
the chatter to them, then chat in it, etc. Sometimes people automatically leave the
switchboard after inactivity, and then when you type to them again, it brings them
back in, or creates a new switchboard and brings them in there. Well, when some
clients would disconnect from the switchboard, Sabre had issues making it work again.
You'd have to double click on their name again. This long standing bug appears to
have finally been fixed!! I think the "user is typing" notification to the server
was mucking up the authentication process when Sabre was trying to make a new
switchboard connection.

SabreMSN 0.57 - 2009-08-18
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Gearing up for a v1.0 release.. nearly fixed the major bugs. Just the switchboards one left to go I think. And then add a multiple accounts + encrypted passwords login thing. Hopefully I didnt add too many more bugs here! Once v1.0 is out the door, I could focus on the important things, like file transfers.. etc. Seems a long way in the future, but I found time to code yesterday and today. :)

Question: Should I remove the "Chat: name (email)" stuff from the window titlebar?

http://wookiechat.amigarevolution.com/wip3/offlineinfo.png
(I have many many MSN accounts. well, 4. One for each computer just about!)

Changes:
2009-08-18: Alpha 57
- Fixed "challenge string" calcuation issue with certain sized challenge codes.. no
more disconnections after a minute of being online. Thanks to MickJT on amigaworld.net
Send him a donation to say thanks! The initial disconnection still happens sometimes,
but when it reconnects, it stays connected now. Well, for me at least. :)
- Added automatic reconnection when disconnected. Configurable values.
- Commented out file transfer stuff, because it was too buggy to use and was causing
confusion I think. The GUI looks more handsome now.
- Bugfixed Group Chats a little.
- Changed the layout of the top of the chat window. Let me know if you guys like it.
Text labels at the top showing: display name, email address, and personal messages if
one is being displayed. Also, you can copy to the clipboard from it.
- Away status is shown next to the display name at the top of the chat window, and it
tells you when the person went offline if they go..
- Made the tab buttons so they dont have to occupy as much space as the text inside them
i.e. the text can be cut off inside now if the window is too small for the tabs, and
it isnt forced to be a large size anymore. (did that make sense?)
- Oops, renaming contact button doesnt work anymore.. the setting isnt remembered when
you reconnect. I think that particular rename command only works for the current session.
I think the MSN client is supposed to keep a local copy on the hard drive, then rename
the contact when it connects and retrieves the contacts list. Hmmmmmmm.
- Weird error: For some reason I had commented out a Contact List display name copy, and
I cant remember why. I've only noticed recently that some names were email addresses or
just blank. So I've re-enabled it.
- Changed "Add a contact" string gadget to use BetterString.mcc so that OS3 users can
paste contact addresses into it

Grab it from the usual place:

which resolution looks better on Amiga? I tried a 24" on my a1 years ago and it looked funny.. I dont know what the top res was, though.

Im aware of the various problems with DVI and this resolution on Sam, and the various things to try,but Im also aware of people who use it successfully..Im going to try it out. :) I might even use the next res down, 1650x whatever instead. Im mainly upgrading for the oontrast ratio anyway, the real estate will just be a bonus. If it doesn't work at al or just bady, Ill use it ont he Pc instead hehe.

@Slayer

my news releases seem to be turning into a mini blog about my life...

btw, Niko Tomasidis provided the bulk of the donation for my 2gb ddr1 ram for my bucket PC. It arrived 2 days ago, and my PC runs very very nicely now. I can have everything up at once, no slow down. He's really into AROS. He reported a lot of bugs and got things fixed under AROS pretty much. He's awesome. :)
(I just thought that deserved a mention.)

for 1-2 weeks while hes on holiday with gf in Christchurch, south island of New Zealand. :)

CHANGELOG
=========
2009-08-05 : Alpha 56
- "contact has added you to his list, add them to your own contacts list?" stuff was
broken in last release. Just crashed.
- Header messages are ignored now. So irrelvant stuff will be filtered out from the chat.
This one goes out to Kicko! hehe. Let me know if it goes okay.

Future releases will only be announced on amigans.net. Cant be bothered posting to a million sites every time.

I'm gearing up for a v1.0 release. Will remove the semi functioning file transfers code, and fix group chats, and also fix these two bugs:

1. Connections often fail when you connect the first time, or within the first 30 seconds of connecting successfully?!
2. Sometimes when talking to a contact, and their switchboard expires, you need to double click on their name again to make the chat window accept input again

Development will go slower though, due to starting a new job soon, and having a gf that seems to require more than 3.5 hours sleep (whats up with that?!).

Jahc, well to the first(RED) part, are you having the Playlist window opened whilst you are using the SkinFX interface? If so Why!! after you have got your playlist/mp3s in your playlist just close it down.

Blue area? again if your running in SkinFX Mode its not a problem, yes i understand not everybody runs in SkinFX mode ( but they Should )

Green Area same as above, as for resizing the window it seems to be Limited to the width of Tabs for Playlist, Radio and Tune.
So for me at least none of those are a problem, I run Tunenet in The Shield Skin from the Tunenet site.

Does the DMS skin have a skinned playlist? I couldnt find one, that's why I'm using the Reaction playlist..

@bean

cool, thanks. then add an ARexx port too and I'll be very happy!

@Bean

Report:
http://wookiechat.amigarevolution.com/pics2/tunenetsuggestions.png

(in my opinion!)

The red areas need to be hidden or removed while the skinned interface is displayed, as this information is already displayed there.. and it takes up room.. also it looks like two seperate programs almost,with the duplication of information.. is there a Reaction equivalent of MUIA_ShowMe?

The blue areas has too much empty space which could look cooler if it was more compact, I think..

The green area could be improved upon in some way, but I dont know how. Functionally, its a great way to switch between the different modes though. But it takes up space, and might be a little untidy.. there might be a better way to do this, or that might be the best way already... I dont know, this is a grey area for me. :)

Also, the playlist window is unable to resized to a smaller/small/tiny size right now. I think it might be the weight calculations due to the red areas being displayed?

I'd like to hear other users opinions on what I've just typed.. because I dont want you to change up things drastically if other users will hate it..

But after consideration today, I decided to get behind Tunenet instead of making my new program. Simpleplay was alright back in the day when we had nothing else, but I'm ready to move on now. Tunenet is so far ahead in so many areas.. my gf is really impressed with your skins too. :)

Keep up the good work. It's a fine program!

I was going to make a new MP3 based program in the style I wanted, but TuneNet is so good.. I think I'll just throw money at bean until he molds the playlist the way I want it, and adds ARexx stuff. It's such a great program.

Bean, if you're not toooooo busy, I'm going to start making suggestions for you. Might do some mockup Reaction suggestions.... users like the interface simple, but functional. I'm downloading the latest Tunenet at the moment.. will get back to you later. :)

@Tuxedo

SDL_Mixer isnt just the sound output thing, its the whole music replayer library.... and yes Im' intending to move away from it. I'm testing the last version of SimplePlay at the moment. It's just a bugfix version really. Once thats out the door, I will concentrate on moving to mpega.library, and making the player a little more like Rhythmbox on Ubuntu.. but it'll be geared towards mp3. Plugins might be possible, I dont know. For now I definitely want an improved way of displaying songs, using their ID tags, using seperate columns for track, title, genre, artist, album, time, etc. But I'm finding it hard to find time to code these days like I said! and I love coding! It's hard to test music players when my lady has the movie channel on 24 hours! (getting headphones today though hehe).

@Cyborg

Hmm, good point. SabreMSN is getting very usable. Ill work on the auto connect bug, and the group chats, and the bug with expired switchboards needing a double click on the contact list to restart them.. and then I'll bump it to v1.00 and release it everywhere. os4depot and aminet, etc.

Im not sure how serious I am about libpurple yet. It would definately be cool to have avatars and file transfers... but Im scared of porting the library, because i wouldnt really know how. I thought spotUp had done a port, but I couldnt find it on os4depot.net.

With a new engine, and new supported protocols, Id definitely have to change the name. I dont know what though. SabreMSN has a nice identity to it now I think. You're going to hate this.. but what about SabreIM? haha!

Actually, i'd like it if someone could magically make a MUI text field class that could support different fonts at once, graphics inside, with inserting and getting/setting text features, and a set position thing.. and also read only features for just displaying text.

Man I have very little time to code these days anyway. I feel bad neglecting certain people when Im going tappy tap tap on the computer for 3 hours.
