An old topic I know, but thought it best to add to this rather than open a new topic.

Does anyone know if the joystick ports on the Catweasel MK4 work under OS4?

Thinking of buying one after watching clusteruk's videos (links below) and being able to use the mouse/joystick ports would swing it for me. Understand you can read floppy disks with the driver on OS4depot.

@ktadd

Would be nice if the OS installer commented out the unwanted modules to customise the install for the hardware. I've commented out quite a few in my Kicklayout file in an effort to shave some time of boot.

@djrikki

The apps (I hate that phrase) section is quite nice but I think a more uniform look to the screengrabs would be better, i.e. just shots with OS4.1 default GUI theme to give a consistent look. PM me a list and I can send you a whole bunch.

OpenOffice running on XP seems a little out of place. Personally I don't think it should be included at all as it doesn't yet exist and is a long way of (maybe never?). That said, would be good to feature some of the AmiCynix X11 programs, like AbiWord and Gimp, as these are available now.

For videos maybe you could post a list here of what you had in mind and see if anyone is willing to contribute?

@328gts

Samsung GT-S3650 Genio Touch Phone

Works well under OS4.1 update 2, check you have phone settings for the PC connections set to mass storage mode. You can copy files to and from the phone's memory including MP3s, videos, photos. I have a 4GB MicroSD card installed in my Genio.

Videos recorded using the Genio's built-in camera play in MPlayer, which play fine directly over the USB connection without copying videos across to the HD first.

Make sure you close all the Genio's drawers on Workbench before disconnecting (and of course wait for any file copying etc to finish), otherwise Workbench complains of disk errors.

The phone will also happily charge off the Sam440's front USB which is handy.

@kilaueabart

Guessing you've done this, but have you checked the font is installed in the Fnts drawer? OWB does have a tooltype for UNICODEFONT so it could be looking for the font for this.

What is OWB laucher used for exactly? All it seems to do for me is open a splash picture as OWB loads and OWB takes slightly longer to open so I've never used the launcher.

Does StartOWB come with ClipDown? I can't find it in either the OWB or ClipDown drawers.

Many of us, or dare I say: the 'silent' majority, appreciate your efforts. OS4 is a great achievement, especially given all the obstacles and bumps in the road. Thanks.

According to the above POP3 SPA (Secure Password Authentication) is disabled, could explain the error, could check your account settings in YAM and make sure there isn't an SPA option checked? Don't use YAM myself these days so working from memory .

Also check you have entered your full email address as the username, I made this mistake when setting up a TalkTalk account in SimpleMail.

Surely game ports are outside the scope of AOS and Hyperion's business direction..

I hope not, would be nice to have some more games. That said I don't expect Hyperion to be doing ports like this, they have more important work. We need Hyperion to keep improving AOS and make sure the foundations are there for others to take advantage of when porting or developing games.

@ktadd

Thanks for the video (watched with help of ClipDown of course!), always helpful to see a demo like that. Ability to grab areas of screen so simply as shown with Google Maps, will come in really handy!

Brilliant little tool, ClipDown is turning into a bit of a swiss army knife!

@xeron

I think it would make sense. If a drawer of photos went in as a drawer seems logical it should unpack as a drawer of files from the archive to, rather than just the files. Would be useful in that it would save creating/naming new folder for photos after unpacking.

That would be useful, but would this result in a folder if unpacked on Windows?

If you put Cranu in the Dock, you should be able to drag icons to the Cranu icon. I *think* thats the case, but i can't remember 100%.

It should definately work if you drag icons the Cranu icon in workbench.

Edit: Ahh, I just tried dragging files to the Cranu icon in AmiDock, and it launched a seperate instance of Cranu for each file! Strange.

Works fine if you drop a drawer on, but as you say if you select a bunch of files in a drawer and drop on it opens a new instance for every file.

AmiArc seems to be working for me now, but it's docky icon only seems to handle drawers, doesn't do anything when given a selection of files.

@xeron

Going to stick with Cranu as it is working everytime since installing 68k Zip.

I struggling to do anything useful with AmiArc, like the idea of a docky you can just drop files on to pack but doesn't seem to be working here.

Cool, shame nothing came of it. Remember a screengrab of Workbench on a PDA appearing around that time, although many assumed it was a mockup rather than reality then.

Will definately try AmiArc out, looks good from website, shame it's not on OS4depot as probably would have found it straight away then.

Thanks for the tips.

Did wonder if it might be down to zip rather than Cranu, 68k version works fine as you said. Shame about the bug in the OS4 version.

Can anyone recommend a good archiver GUI for OS 4.1?

I need to make zip archives of photos. Have installed zip (latest from OS4depot) into C: and currently experimenting with Cranu. Find that files in the .zips made by Cranu are read protected. Anyone know where I might be going wrong or suggest an alternative archiver?

Thanks.
