Re: WormHole: great tool to easily transfer files via LAN

Thought I would try the MorphOS version today.

Would not launch and get this error.

Screen doesn't support alpha transparent windows!
File: Wormhole.hws (current line : 1353 - In Function: Open Display)

Running MorphOS 3.19 on an AmigaOne X5K

As a side note, I tried the newest Mac OS version as well, and still have issues with any files of size. Just seems to lock things up to a crawl.

I have Candi in AmigaOS running and when a transfer of size starts, the whole Candi desktop becomes a crawl and halts and stops in any animations.

Just a note is all.

@Skateman

Not sure if others have this issue but I have several keyboards and for me, ESC does not work at all but a spacebar does.

Is the Early Boot supposed to be accessed but ESC or Space or either?

I have some keyboards that just plain won't work yet others work.

Example, a nice RGB keyboard that won't but a $7 Fry Electronics cheapest keyboard does.

My clear G4 Cube USB Keyboard does but that one won't let me boot from a USB stick but will get me into early boot.

Ah the Voodoo of these sorts of computers is fun.

haha

This is really neat. I am only really a Next Gen Amigan BUT if this device lets me buy some of these Homebrew Amiga games that come out on floppy and play them, I may have to buy one of these!

I am starting to play some ADF and older games these days on my X5K.

Is there a way to tell what version of NGFS actually was done on an old drive or no?

@joerg

When you mention author to get the current version, are you meaning Hyperion?

I purchased my X5K back in 2016 and have done all the updates to date, but unsure what version I used to last partition my drive. I know I did a reinstall of all couple years ago but may have been the 2016 version is my guess.

I need to look but who do we reach out to to get the current NTFS if we are current X5K and Amiga OS 4.1 licensed owners?

Ah funny, I own zTools. I need to go grab that again. I did an reinstall a number of years ago and forgot I owned it. Hopefully Amistore remembers. haha

Maybe I am missing it but is there some progress meter inside or that works with WormHole that shows how much transfer remains for the larger files?

can you tell me the names of the apps you had in your top status bar that showed the speed of your network transfer.

I want to install that.

Thanks

I tried @Maijestro and it does run, nice.

My issue here is slowness and integrity of the download.

I sent a 300MB .MP4 from my X5K to the Mac Pro, it did eventually arrive. Kind of slow but made it and it played fine. The full size of the file was there as well.

On the return trip, it took 3 to 4x as long as the whole file did not arrive even though it appears in the directory I asked it to save in.

The original file was about 350mb and the return was only 305mb and won't play in Emotion.

The original mp4 played fine but yeh, something seems to truncate large files for me and they don't all come over same size or useable.

Just my 3 cents so far.

But small files 2 to 5mb, fine. Larger not so much, for me.

@Maijestro

Gonna watch now.

My 1st test previously using the Hollywood Applet on my Mac chocked on a 1.6gb file so I killed it.

I will make sure to download the new version you chmoded and will see what happens with it.

btw, who is it ignoring you?

@lazi

So I can try again, I wanted to make sure I understand what I supposed to do in the Mac OS Terminal.

I need to type (without the ') just chmod and then drag the path of the executable into the terminal window and it will paste, then add ONE blank after that and hit return?

What is the exact file in the contents directory am I trying to drag over?

You typed WormHole.app/Contents/MacOS folder but not sure what file is the executable so wanted to be 100% sure before I try.

Thanks

I am enjoying @lazi application WormHole for Amiga OS 4 to file transfer with my Macs.

Although there is not a running version (as of this writing) for MacOS 64bit to run on my Mac Pro 2019 (that I see), the Hollywood version does work even if a small error message pops up claiming the app did not work.

I have been playing with this since yesterday and although not perfect, does seem to work fine for smaller file transfers like a PDF or JPG, etc... Something one may want to transfer from a work computer to the Amiga and back and forth.

Come see and thank you to @lazi for the nice applications.

@lazi

I downloaded the new OS X x86, unzipped it, and the WormHole app is showing as 0 bytes, so no app to run.

But as Slygon noted, unsure if it will run on a 64bit OS like many of us have.

My oldest Mac Pro 2013 is a Xeon based as is the new Mac Pro 2019 too, so not sure it would run.

But I did try but the app shows zero bytes in size.

@lazi

Any way to make Hollywood on the Mac OS system to remember where I moved the WormHole too?

After closing, it sticks it in the middle of my screen.

Would be nice if it remembers I moved it to the bottom left of my screen as example.

I see it remembers the Amiga side but the Mac side with the applet nope.

Also, down the road, will more than 2 computers be able to use this meaning if I have 2 Macs and 1 AmigaOne, they all be able to transfer files to the chosen computer?

Maybe a drag and drop but as you drop, a menu pops up allowing you to select which computer gets the file, etc... just an idea.

I will test more so other than the Hollywood error that it can't launch the app in question, which it does, the two way transfer did work for me.

Sweet!

The error I get on the Mac is

Hollywood Player

Table field "lastdestination" was not initialized!

File: WormHole.hws (current line: 493 - In Function: <<unnamed>>)

Hope this helps.
