@everyone
The problems I have seem to be limited to certain DVD's. Some play back smashing, others have breakup on fast moving scenes, crash my system or hang the application.
@Slayer
What does that command do and how would I reverse its affects?
Also Songplayer, would this be the app that seems to be 68k only on Aminet dating back to 2004?

DVD playback on the SAM

I'm struggling to get DVD playback on the SAM, using DVPlayer, to work at all. After reading various forum posts I ensured I have got the following codecs in place: avcodec v51.52 in libs (I replaced the version already in place) a52_codec v52.2 in libs\avcodecs (a draw I had to create) dcacodec v51.1 in libs\avcodecs Using DVPlayer and choosing Project - Open DVD/VCD results in my system freezing after the DVD drive spins up. If I instead go to Open File and try to play one of the VOB files (any of the VOB files) in the Video_TS directory I get the error "Volume <volume name> has a read/write error". Sometimes after cancelling this a few times I get an error about the file format not being recognised. If I try to copy a file off the DVD I get a message about the DVD having a read/write error as the system tries to list all the files. To ensure the DVD drive is not at fault, I tested an ordinary Magazine DVD cover disk and the system reads the files OK, displaying Jpegs and PDF's etc off the disk without errors. I've naturally tried several DVDs Anyone have any ideas? [ edited to correct bad grammer :) ]

One of many things I like about OWB is that it is frequently updated.
Am using this version now and so far it's looking good. Good work!

Now my SAM seems to be up and running I'm looking at useful apps to install to get the OS functionality/behaviour where I want it.
I'm scanned the forums here and on Amigaworld for postings, as well as have a brief hunt through the massive Aminet archive and OS4depot.
I've been wary of downloading and installing stuff especially as I value stability above all else at the moment and didn't want to crash my system with software that wasn't compatible.
This is the sort of functioanlity I would love to have on my OS, are there stable OS4.1/SAM compatible utilities that would meet these?
- Clicking on a window doesn’t automatically bring it to the front. I therefore find myself having to close down windows and move them around (haven’t learnt the Amiga way of doing things yet!). Is there a utility to automatically bring a window to the front when I click on it?
- Start menu. I hate having to scramble around in folders to launch apps and while I know I can add things to the docky, I am stuck in my ways and miss the start menu functionality found in Windoze. Therefore is push4dock any good and stable on OS4.1? It hasn’t been updated since 2007 according to OS4depot.net which I find a concern.
- Animated cursors for when the system is waiting for something. I find the static pocket watch cursor somewhat "plain".

@salass00 Unit 0 - 3 weren't set up correctly to play sound and were all muted too. between that and nubechecorre's sugestion re mpega.library (which I didn't have but now do), one of them fixed the problem and the SAM is now happily playing MP3's Although there is a bit of static that plays when it starts but I read something about that somewhere........

Why have you deleted the audio driver for the sam in devs ?
I haven't, I don't think! I followed the instructions in this posting.... http://www.amigans.net/modules/newbb/ ... php?topic_id=2606&forum=3....and deleted the unused drivers from the AHI and Audiomodes directories. This was the last action I tried prior to posting and it has made no difference. Since posting, I have now downloaded the latest cs4821 driver from OS4Depot and copied the files into the relevant directories. Have rebooted and retested using the AHI tool and the bleep still plays when testing sound. Still no joy from AmigaAMP though.

Sound on the SAM

Yep, me again! This time, sound on the SAM. So far I'm not heard much from my Amiga. I've read some of the sound related topics already on the board and this is what I have done; Prefs / AHI - Music Unit set to CS4281: 16 bit Stereo The "Play a test sound" button gives me a longish bleep. I went into the DEVS and AHI and AudioModes folders and deleted all unused drivers (i.e. NOT cs4821.audio) as per comments made on another thread. I downloaded AmigaAMP and was trying to play an MP3 and it says it's playing it (i.e. the seconds counter starts to count) and nothing, not a bleep I have no idea as to how I tell if I have the latest versions of AHI and cs4281 on my system cos I haven't yet figured that out. However, I am presuming the ones that come on the CD must be ones that work? Also, in other threads mention is made about setting the number of channels. How is this done? In the AHI utility the channel slider is greyed out. When I run the C: SoundPlayer command I get "Sound is disabled" in the Output window. Hopefully the above gives some indication that I have at least done some homework on trying to solve this issue myself! EDIT : Clarified a point made above

Yes, just load S:Startup-Sequence in a text editor (NotePad) & edit the existing line. This is an old problem. With the original line, the boot sequence stops until a net connection is made. If theres a problem, it will keep trying until it connects or gives up before it continues to boot. By adding the "run" command, it will attempt a net connection in the background & continue to boot up. The down side is a short delay before the net can be used after bootup, usually 5 sec or less. I use a fixed IP on my micro, so the delay is to short to notice.
Perfect that does indeed appear to have my Amiga back on the net again and loading up Workbench quickly. Thanks for the assistance everyone - it's making re-learning the Amiga a far less painful experience!

In your Startup-Sequence, change the network line to this:
Run >NIL: C:AddNetInterface QUIET DEVS:NetInterfaces/~(#?.info)
Other wise, the bootup will hang waiting for the net connect.
I'll add that. I presume the startup-sequence is that in the S draw? If so, I can open it up (it opens in Multiview) but not add any text to it? There is already a line saying C:AddNetInterface QUIET DEVS:NetInterfaces/~(#?.info) so I am presuming I just add RUN >NIL in front of it?

Final update - not one for positing to my own thred several times! - deleting the network connections I'd defined from Devs\Netinterfaces worked and it now loads up perfectly so they were to blame.

OK, a little bit wierd this.
I started to think it may be network related, i.e. the Amiga waiting for an IP address or something, so after playing around with disconnecting it from the internet and so on (without joy I may add) I added it again onto the network whilst it was hanging.
This caused a network log output to appear on screen, with comments (3 of them) about duplicate IP address 0.0.0.0 sent from ethernet address <gives MAC address>
After about 2 minutes wait the desktop loaded up fine!
Not sure if my previous attempts to load it up were me not giving the machine enough time, but I'm thinking of clearing all the network connections to see if that makes a difference.
Anyway, is any of this making any sense to anyone?

OK, I may have found the problem. The harddisk no longer shows via Media toolbox, I'm assuming it should?
Seems strange as the BIOS finds it and the system loads up OK up until a point.
I'm thinking loose cable....

If I could get Workbench loaded I could say, but alas I can't :'(
I've loaded up the Amiga installation disk OK, so the hardware if fine. Can't see the harddisk's appearing on the desktop though, not sure if I should or not....

SAM hangs on AmigaOS4.1 screen

Ever since updating my SAM via the Hyperion website and downloading and installing the second of the two updates (the one concerning IDE I believe), the Amiga just stays frozen at the AmigaOS 4.1 bootscreen.
The first reboot following the update it hung there for a good minute or so, then suddenly loaded up OK and worked perfectly.
No other changes were made to the machine, indeed it was a fresh install other than a wallpaper change, screen res change, internet connection set up and installation of OWB from OS4Depot and an MP3 datatype (the Amiga rebooted fine after these updates).
Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas on a trouble shooting approach?

I got my SAM through today and have managed construct it and to install Workbench onto it and it's all up and running OK apart from the screen resolution.
My monitor has a resolution of 1440 * 900. Unfortunatly this was not an option when installing the OS, nor one now it is installed and I try to amend it via Screenmode.
I understand I can edit the Radeon entry under Devs? But how and what would I add? I thought Notepad would allow me to open it, but it just loads a garbled file?
Any help on sorting this niggle out would be fab!
