Re: Can't get network connection working on 5000

Can you check your MAC address?
(i think) some devices might refuse to talk with devices with a nulled MAC address.

You should be able to see it with the command:
"c:shownetstatus interface P50X0_ETH"
replace P50X0_ETH with the name of your interface if you have changed it since the beginning if this thread.

@Paul

Try the os4_bootdevice=auto uboot variable.

text copied from http://wiki.amiga.org/index.php?title=AmigaOne_X5000_Update_Uboot

Quote:

"os4_bootdevice" (recommended) This variable forces the system to boot from a particular partition, that is, make that partition the "system volume". This happens after the Kickstart files are loaded (see 4.2d). If the variable is set to a partition name, then that partition will become the "system volume". If the variable is set to "auto", then the partition that provided the Kickstart files will become the "system volume" (this is the normal condition). If the variable is not defined, then the partition with the highest "boot priority" will become the "system volume".

I do not know how to obtain the drivers and download Them without amistore and the updater program but IF you can work that out with amigakit it's easy to create a bootup media from another machine.
All you need is THE kickstart drawer and the files in it on a media that you can boot Up from.(usb flash drive is recomended)
You can boot from several filesystems, including fat/fat32 iirc.
When THE kickstart with your updated files are loaded you can continue to boot from your os4.1 install medium for example.

Re: AmIRC for OS4 is it still available?

@walkero

I prefer gui programs most of the time but irc is one of the few times when even i can work with a shell program :)

About why i prefer irssi:

I run irssi from some linux computer on my network 24/7 (atm it's a rpi3) and by doing that i can access the same client from whatever computer i'm using with ssh, i can do it from anywhere in the world.
For years i was doing it on Os4 by using a small rdesktop window with xterm maximized so it covers the full window.
Now with sshterm i rarely use the rdesktop method anymore. I just click on the sshterm icon to connect and enters "screen -dr" to bring back my screen with irssi.

The drama was something like:
Amirc was opensourced but it turned out not everyone who has been involved in the development wanted to opensource it so the sources was removed but by then Costel had already made a version for os4.

Amirc has supperior arexx functions but who uses it nowdays?
The plugin system is also good but i don't see much use for plugins.
I would rather see an updated wookiechat as it has functions that is worth more for me than the functions in amirc.
Wookiechats main problem is that it's not stable enough.
iirc it could handle multiple servers and display utf8.
Amirc can handle utf8 with some plugin that is only available on morphos and you have to run one instance for every server you want to connect to.

For me irssi is supperior to both of them so i have not used any of them for years so i dont really care but if irssi was unavailable and i had to choose wookie or amirc.

Hi.

I would try to get a card that works with the rtl8169.device.
I have never used a pci version of this card but i have one pci-e version in my X5000 and it works great and have good performance.

Here is a link to a card that i think can work with the rtl8169 driver

https://www.edimax.com/edimax/merchand ... ers_pci_card/en-9235tx-32

Other drivers are

eth3com.device - dont know anything about this one.
usbadm85111.device - Not so easy to buy and slow.
rtl8029.device - Avoid this one!!! have tested this one with a classic amiga and the X5000 and it's really slow.
rtl8139.device - Not so bad as rtl8029 but still not a good choice. Tested on Peg2 and X5000.

@prowler

Hi.
There is no terminal for Amicygnix but you should be able to X11 forward some stuff from your linux machine.
Here is a screenshot i made in 2012 with xterm.
Resized Image(click to open in newtab for fullsize)

I'm not an linux expert and i do not remember any more how i did it but it should be doable even today.
I might have some clues somewhere on my hdd.

Re: zmodem transfers from OS4.1 FE

@khayoz

I actually upgraded to os3.1 and a gotek just to be able to test this one :)
It works when using the A500 as customer and the X5000 as service.
But when using the X5000 as customer it does not work, the gui is just frozen on the X5000.
The service program seems to work under 1.3 also so it would be great it i could get it working with the X5000 as the customer.

Can you use your X5000 as customer?
My main boot partition is filled with the latest beta components but i also checked with my "safe" system partition that is quite close to the one you have and i have the same result there.

There was no contact information in the archive but i think i know how to contact the author after some googeling so if im motivated someday and feel confident that it's because of bugs in his program i could try to contact him.

zmodem transfers from OS4.1 FE
Just popping in
Just popping in

Hi there.

I'm trying to transfer some files to my A500 over a serial cable.
My hope was that term 4.8 would do it but whenever selecting "transfer binary file(s) my machine will lock up hard. (X5000)

So what i'm looking for is advice about how to get zmodem transfers working from Term 4.8 or an alternative way to do it.

I remember from a few years ago when i just wanted to be able to capture serial debug output from another machine that there was not many options for serial communications for os4.1 (iirc there was only term 4.8 and the archive from aminet would not even run without doing some tweaking at first).
Maybe there is some tweak needed to be done to send files also? I can recieve and send text between the computers when typing on the keyboards.

So does anyone know any alternative ways to send my files, or does term 4.8 work for you or if there is something that can be done to term so that it will work?

This A500 is running aos 1.3 and ncomm and at the moment i'm hoping to not have to replace ncomm with any other software as it would be easier if i could get zmodem transfers to work from the X5000.

@kas1e

Have you ever used the Asmediatest tool?
https://forum.hyperion-entertainment.c ... b40d01653dd15494d3b725717

From this thread
https://forum.hyperion-entertainment.c ... .php?f=57&t=3625&start=10

I have a CMI8378 card somewhere in my drawers that i could test with if i can find it.
It was only used briefly in the early days of the X5k but it could atleast play mp3's for hours without a lockup.

*EDIT
After reading the thread it seems to be safer to just avoid having a sound card at all ;)

@kas1e

I'm sorry to say it but the mediaplayer actually works quite good :D
I can not reproduce your audio problem.
Tested with both debug & non-debug kernel on my X5k with emu10kx card.

I'm not on youtube so often but lately i have been using it more and more since a couple of months since i have no other computer that is easy to access at home and i have not had any audio problems, but sometimes i do get a crash.

@PEB

No crash here when i just run the executable from the qftpserver directory from workbench.
It loads up the GUI and i can configure it.

My problem is to connect to the server... i set the root path to /qt/home but can not list the directory from within PFTP when connecting to local host, with or without passive connection (i have no other computer in my network to test with atm)

@Raziel

The boring solution to your problem is to use a hardfile.
It will not lock up your machine when writing to the "harddisk" but it will come with the hardfile limitations (it is slow, 2gb max size, and not as easy to write to from your host os).

As it's so easy to spot this problem it must be a well known problem but nobody has bothered for ages to fix it.

How do you plan to release it?

Is it in a future OS4 update, enhancer, a free download from somewhere or as a paid download or maybe something else?
