Have you tried modepro http://aminet.net/package/util/cdity/ModePro I used to use it a lot with my BVisionPPC card to get OS legal software to open on my Graphics card rather than an AGA screen mode?

I don't know how well it work on OS4 but its probably worth a go.

@alfkil
For me DSI happens using the cdplayer.library (I dont always get the DSI with the version released since that) with the patch if I run DOPUS4 and extract the napalm patch to the ram disk.

But in general using other applications first and copying files to the ram disk tests to result in the error even if I delete the files from the ram disk and quit the applications before running napalm.

Hmm, I'm getting serious hard lockups whilst playing this game. They are random though, the first time I could only play for a few minutes, the third attempt I got some way through the second mission (~10 mins according to the clock on screen at speed 7). Next time I load it up I'll get some serial debug going and hopefully will be able to obtain a crashlog. (actually I'll try removing Sam440EP_Setup just in case it is being caused by that)

I have had a few lockup playing as well and have aleady removed the sam440ep_setup util to see if that would help fix my usb drop out issues so I dont think that is the reason for my lockups.

Maybe finding and fixing the DSI error I get on some attempts to lunch the game will fix the lockup issue as well.

I don't think qualifier keys are being checked, as I can't shift-click on units to multi-select them.

I'm also getting the ========= problem when saving, even though I have the updated version of the patch.

I'd forgotten how hard this game was. Good work!

Selecting and grouping units works fine here by dragging the selection box round a group of unit with the left mouse button then pressing a number key to create a group "1" for then using the matching function key "F1" to select the created group.

Its pressing alt to make units fire I am not sure about but having not played the game much on my A1200 setup I cant tell if keys presses are being lost of it its normal for the games AI to ignore some of my attempts to fire on selected enemy units.

Can you maybe send me a crash report for that DSI?? I don't get these here on my system, so I might not be able to fix it.

@alfkil
Just to confirm that the version in the recent files list on OS4depot now works nicely on my sam440ep and I can load and save in game with out any issues.

I have also managed to complete the first Human mission without problems, other than it being quite hard

Now for the small issues I have noticed I do still get the DSI on startup if I have been running other software before running Napalm, but you can skip the error and I don't get it on a clean boot.

Also I can only load games from the in mission menu not the first menu, but this can easily be worked round by just starting the first mission and loading from there so I am very happy to have another good game to play under OS4.

So thanks again for making this good game playable under OS4

Edit: Fixed typo's

I am not sure if it just a glitch with trying to download the second version from the upload section of OS4 depot but I am still seeing the same problem here.

you may also want to update the version of the cdplayer.library you have included in your patch as there is a newer version on OS4depot and the old version gives me a DSI error on startup with your patch, but the new one does not

Anyway thanks for your hard work its nice to play Napalm on my sam440 and have it play better than it does under winUAE on my Windows 7 laptop.

One other suggestion while I am at it would it be possible to change the default game speed to 6 and auto scroll to 7 so we dont need to set it each time we start a game/mission.

The good news is that your patch works and I can play Napalm like the beta's you e-mailed me

The not so good news is that I when I try to save the save name fills up with "=================" signs like you are holding the key down even if you don't press any keys.

I am not an expert but there is an OS4 version on OS4Depot http://www.os4depot.net/index.php?fun ... opment/utility/spatch.lha maybe that will be more useful than the 68k version.

@salass00
OK the good news is your new version gives me working audio with CDPlay and I can confirm AHI is being used as muting the CD channel still gives me music.

Now for the odd bit it also seems to give me working music with Wipeout but only when I use CDPlay to play a CD first then wipeout has working CD audio and I can change tune from the music menu, but the audio does not seem to be playing using AHI as muting the CD Audio channel mutes the music.

I already use NSDPatch to redirect trackdisk.device units 0-3 to diskimage.device. I meant more as in not much can be done in cdplayer.library.

I'd also like to add that CDPlay isn't just hardcoded to scsi.device it's also hardcoded to unit 2 of this device (not that it makes much difference if you're going to be remapping it with NSDPatch).

even with the remapping I can't get any sound out of CDPlay.

here is a dump of my the debugbuffer on my sam440ep with AHI setup to use the onboard audio on my sam440ep mini-itx board:

For what ever reason your library has given me CD Audio once on the second attempt with Wipeout but has failed to give me music on all other attempts, it starts accessing the CD each time as if it is reading the CD Audio but I don't get any CD Audio which is a bit odd.

Thanks, I am sure this will help with other games as well

I think your library should also fix WipeOuts CD Audio playback under OS4.1 as if I remember correctly it uses the same library, now we just need to get someone to fix the lockup issue when playing Wipeout on the sam440ep.

Oh well I thought is was worth asking the question anyway

Have you tried swapping which PCI slot your USB2 card is in?

Back in the bad old days then I had a PC with early VIA chipset and an AMD Athlon CPU that used to lockup or blue screen a few times a day swapping my usb card over with my network card fixed the problem, but as it was not an AmigaOne the cause of your problems could be quite different.

Silly question time.

If you are using a USB keyboard and mouse have you tried unplugging and then plugging back in your keyboard and mouse after the Computer seems to lockup to check that's its not just a USB drop out rather than a lockup?

On the subject of Napalm: Today I was able to get the game to come all the way to the main selection screen by disabling the cdplayer functions. But now it complains about audio.device... I guess I will need to fix the sound driver after all...

Its good to hear that you are making real progress on getting Napalm working under OS4.

Ah, maybe that's why I wasn't aware of any problems - I have an EP.

Anyway, this is derailing the thread... back to Naplam.

No it locks up quite quickly on my mini-itx sam440ep as well here, it was one of the games I was looking forward to playing again when I first got my sam440 but its never worked well for me under OS4.1.
