Libcairo shared object
Quite a regular
Quite a regular

Hello,

i saw that a libcairo shared object is included in the new Timberwolf beta release. I know that in the readme file is clearly written that can be dangerous using this library instead of the old one, but i would like to experiment certain cairo routines that are very slow with the actual version i use. Now, checking theversion string of the old cairo library it's seems dated 7 april 2010 (version 53.3), with a dimension of 846.024 bytes. The Cairo sharedobject that comes with Timberwolf, have the same version string, dated 7 April 2010 (version 53.3) but with a dimension of 3.844.912 MB. The file creation date is 14 October 1980.

The two files are clearly not the same. I would like if how can use the new library. I'm not a great shared object expert, but i used to do some test using the SDK.

How can i use the new libcairo.so?

Thank you

I'll see if there's anything I can do in terms of assembler optimization (the X86 version has a few AFAIK), so it might be usa

Don't forget the special sam (440/460) optimization. Having had a talk with one of the main GCC developer, gcc have already the DSP optiomization library by using the appropriate coomand line switch. Other optimization can be done in assembler.

Thank you

@rogue
Will the latest cairo library be used?

Version 1.12 of cairo is more fast and have more function.

The new pixman library has been improved too.

Thank you

I tried the port on my sam667 and it's already fast enough. Give an IDE to Xamos and we will have a very good product to develop game.

@Samurai

have a look here: http://www.starstonesoftware.com/OpenGL/mac.htm

Example of openGL code 3.x + on OSX
There are example of how you can recode 1.4 to 1.1 GLSL.

Keep going with this cool project.
However, i assume that you will use OGL to program the shaders. Video card (Ati or NVidia) both support shaders.

The Sam440ep's built-in graphics chip will NOT be supported by Gallium3D, because that chip does not support shaders. Which is why I said Sam440 owners will need to buy a suitable gfx card.

In that case what card do you suggest to buy for series 3000, 4000, and 5000? I mean the Pci version.

The Sam 440EP comes with the R9 by default. Will this model be supported? Moreover, there are 3 or 4 radeon cards PCI version, for the series 2000, 3000, 4000, and 5000. I haven't see any cards for the 6000 series. For sure a new PCI radeon card is actually more fast than the AGP M9 of the Sam440. What do you think about?

Thank you.

@Wanderer

AmiBlitz sounds cool!.

Do you think it is possible to include the various library currently used on OS4, such Cairo, the composition Engine and so on...
DO you think could take mych time to have a native OS4.x version?

Thank you
