@Atheist
grrrrrrr
I just opened it up to try a different graphics card and do my annual coin cell update.
I'll have to let it go for a while.
I too, run OGR-25 pretty much steady, but open and close AWeb frequently.
Since July update, even X11 apps like Abiword don't seem to fluster anything.
Anyway, I can't really document it again for a couple weeks, but I regularly get a couple weeks at a time before a reboot.

Mikey, you're really on an emotional roller coaster!! First you brought us "I'm Smiling", and now you talk about "Leaving."
But then, how many Amiga owners AREN'T on one of those roller coasters every now and then?
You've already pointed out all the reasons for NOT leaving. We wouldn't have this fine site if you hadn't started it, for one.
Seriously, I'm not saying we should all cloud our minds with "happy" drugs, or play ostrich. We're all fully aware of how much our situation as Amigans stinks. But the predictors were all saying 10 years ago that all things Amiga except memories would be gone within months.
Here we are, and we have a better OS and more recent hardware. I've never regretted selling my super-expanded '060 towered 4000 so I could buy my A1-XE. It even forced me to learn a little about Linux while I waited for the first pre-release.
But what you need to do right now is go back to teasing us all with more clues on the "I'm Smiling!" topic, and forget all this "doom and gloom."

No. The GP car with all that fiddly photographic "jiggle" looks like a Phoenix taking off into flight. The space ship suggests that it's "boldly going where no man has gone before." What does this mean? The Phoenix Consortium rises again to create an operating system and hardware to control and fully automate home laundry and floor scrubbing! No one has EVER gone there before!!! @BillE Quote: At least Hyperion and Eyetech *did* something for the Amiga - unlike Amiga Inc. Yup. I'm still able to use an Amiga because of them. But Jeff had a good point about Bill McEwen going bankrupt and going through some other garbage with the "kommunity", too. I wouldn't feel devastated if AInc were out of the picture. But if everything we have so far with OS4 is lost and Hyperion disappears, there's nothing left at all to bother with anymore. Paul

I read some of the thread over at amiganews.de and found it very interesting. Interesting enough to go check my Amipass account at amiga.com.
Hmmmm, my phone number was an old number. But the email address is correct. Odd, I didn't get any email. Never got a coupon sent to me or a t-chirt.
Selective recall on AInc's part?

Hey Mikey!!:
You might want to warn people that iPetitions defaults to signing you up for a $10 donation to them for using their service when you sign up.
On AwebPPC, at least, this never goes anywhere because something in the Javascript eats up all your memory (I went from 360+MB free to under 60MB in a couple of seconds) when it tries to process the donation page.

I haven't even tried to do more than enter phone numbers, names, etc. into my phone with the phone pad. You're right. It's really a pain.
Just recently I started using a Palm Z22 wtih Graffiti 2 software. I'm not terribly fast at entering text with Graffiti, but it's coming along. It's fairly intuitive, and I think could provide for some fairly quick text entry once one is used to it.
This Palm unit also allows use of a touch screen with the stylus for "typing," but so far I like Graffiti better.

Thanks for moving it. I was afraid it might sound too provacative to put anywhere but free-for-all. I wasn't trying for that. I didn't want my post to be fodder for another flame fest. I was mainly trying to buck up the troops, so to speak, by pointing out a reasonable explanation for the low key response we've had here. But admittedly, I was venting a little when I saw some of the useless negativity showing up.

I've been visiting back at the previous favorite Amiga website again lately. Wow. Hundreds of posts about ACube, Sam440m, Clone-A. etc. Given the subject matter, a lot of it is speculation, of course, since not a lot of info has been given out yet.
Meanwhile, over here at Amigans.net, there's barely over twenty posts about Sam440. Some might say this site is almost dead, or that for all our bluster at times, we who have moved over here are really indifferent to most things "Amiga."
But I think the rather "matter of fact" reaction coming from here so far is for another reason. Reality, and the perception thereof. The trolls who occasioned the start-up of this site are still pouring out speculation and FUD over at the "other" sites. We, on the other hand, are not as blinded or as unreasonable as the trolls would like to make us appear. (i.e. not irrational "fan boys.")
It's one thing to hope for the best for these projects, or even set aside some money for the possibility of them coming to market. But we know and admit that it could still be a long hard road for any or all of them.
Those of us who bought A1's (wow, was that ever a long time ago, already. Mine is still running great.) back in the day, didn't necessarily assume that there would be a sudden explosion of an Amiga renaissance. I think most of us hoped for it. We hoped for the best. We spent money on hardware, club memberships, and who knows what-all because we hoped that the A1 project would succeed. But it wasn't totally shocking when it ran into problems, either.
I see that a few of the trol,,,,,,, (err, "kiddies") have registered here lately too, and are trying (subtly enough so as not to get banned) to pour cold water on any positive sounding news about the current Amiga hardware projects. Of course, the chatter is a little more "robust" at the other sites! ("Robust" = negative and loud)
At first I wondered if it was a "bad thing" that there was so little reaction here, even when the proportion to the lower number of registered users here is taken into account.
I think the difference is accounted for not by a lower level of interest on our part, but by a higher level of maturity. Instead of assigning blame to Ainc, Bill M, Eyetech, Allen, or anyyone else for that matter. . . instead of going ballistic and calling everyone a thief or a crook when a project goes belly up, we're able to recognize the realities and difficulties of trying to run a business in a small market and simply react more realistically (i.e., maturely.)
Thanks, everyone, for leaving the news releases unmarred by speculation and discouragement (that is, all except the trol .... err, "kiddies.") The little bit of a grin and tiny spark of hope lighted by such releases will merely bring that much more happiness if they actually succeed and the Amiga gets on its feet again.

Sound play without window?

I have an SVX8 sound file which I want to be able to play at boot time. Currently I just put it in WBStartup. It's rather inelegant because it leaves a small Multiview window open when the sound file is finished.
Is there a way I can keep the window from opening at all, and still have the sound play?
I was looking for tooltypes to use that might accomplish this, but the documentation in my old 3.1 book isn't any help.

@sicky
That begins to hit on my thoughts when I started this disucssion. I'm not complaining that this isn't the "real" "for sale" version of OS4.
To the contrary, I'm glad it's just one more update. The way I understand any of the legal issues from the past, as long as OS4.0 is not "Final", then Hyperion still has control over the process.
If that is the case, it's definitely a "good thing."

I just reread the news release on the Christmas time update of OS4. Hyperion refers to it by name only once. In that instance, they call it "Final Update."
But I see nearly everyone simply calling it "OS4 Final."
Doesn't Hyperion's wording indicate that this is another update just like the others, except that by name designation, they are saying the next release will actually be a saleable, true "Final Release," not a "Final Update?"
Does this make sense?

So far:
ImageFX: no longer freezes when closing the program. A few simple operations seemed to work OK so far.
FinalWriter: Same problem here as others. Renaming the FW.Prefs file does NOT help like it did with past updates.
Pagestream4 68k: Works OK here.
Pagestream5 PPC: IT WORKS NOW!!!!! I could never get it to start properly in the past. Now it does. There are still some GUI glitches. But it's actually useable now!
AWebPPC: Works as usual.
IBrowse 2.4 demo: Seems to work OK here.
Thor: Works fine after adding in a library.
dnetc: no problems
Avail flush script: only reports available. Is the "Flush" parameter gone with the new memory system? (I know, I know, RTFM)
Wet: doesn't start.
Limpid Clock: Brings up a GR, with DSI error. Clicking past that to ignore DSI errors lets it run, and it doesn't seem to cause problems, once it's running.
STILL TO CHECK: lpr.device and network printing. MakeCD Frying Pan a1floppy.device Catweasel functionality
Overall: Very stable so far. I've had it running for about 24 hours non-stop now. The only problems have been with particular software bringing in GR's.
