Re: Do SiIL SATA cards go bad?

@Paul

If you are considering getting a SAM460ex and a sii3114, keep in mind that the driver treats the four ports in parallel, acts as if it is a PATA card in terms of primary/secondary/master/slave setup, and can be very difficult to set up so that you don't have a two minute boot time due to timeouts on ports 1 and 3.

Good day,

When I made the installer script, I did not have PNG icons on my system, and did not know how said icons work. Therefore, I did not know that ChangeToolType would not work with those icons. Load the script in Ed or whatever texteditor you prefer. Look up the section using ChangeToolType. Manually add those lines to the PNG icon's tooltypes.

My installer does not install the library necessary for the custom IFX requestor (thumbnail.library if I remember right). I left out any library that crashed my system (at the time AmigaOneXE running OS4.1 update 1 or update 2), whether under JIT or under 68k compatibility settings. Please use ASL.

@atom

Good day atom,

It may depend on what ng Amiga system you have. I have a sam460ex lite.
To enter the uboot menu, after you power on your Amiga, and uboot has initialized sata and USB, hit the space bar. That will take you to the menu.

@QuikSanz

I used to use SuperBase (SBase4/Retail Escort). It was a pretty good database program. Mr. Hardware was going to make an OS4 version, but the owner passed away.

I would be interested in an updated PPC version.

I decided to mount the HR-03 on my less heat intensive 4830 card. The 4850 is now for sale. I may even throw in the riser card if a SAM460 owner buys it.

If not X1ktempdocky, perhaps Ranger would be a good program to monitor cpu/gpu/fan speeds? Of course ssolie would have to find free time to add such features.

The reason I am wondering is that I've switched my loud stock cooler for the massive Thermaltake HR-03 GT silent cooler. The wrap around nature of the cooler allow me to finally use my PCI slot without a riser card. Although it seems to be performing well (it hasn't fried the card yet), I'd like to make sure it is keeping my 4850 cool.

Former setup
Motherboard: SAM460ex lite @1017 MHz with 1 GB DDR2 SODIMM
PCIe: Radeon HD4850 @625 MHz with 512 MB DDR3 @993 MHz
PCI: ARC1-152-C7 riser card
Riser: sil0680 card with 40 GB HD
OS: 4.1 Update 6

Good day,

I was wondering if it could be possible to monitor the temperature of our Radeon cards through software rather than breaking out the multimeter temperature lead?

When I finally get some time to work on my "Rending Time and Space" animation, I'll give Blender a try, not only for the video editing, but also for the 3D rendered saucer.

@broadblues

I noticed that tab did not save the preferences. When Odyssey ended up on the about page, I did go back into URL prefs to make sure everything was in order (including the s at the end of https).

I do wonder if my setup is to blame. Instead of using the "Internet" drawer in my system partition, I have my web browsers on my work partition. I'm pretty sure I have all assigns pointing to them, but after a few updates, I noticed that Timberwolf and Odyssey had been reinstalled on my system partition. If I can't find out exactly what is going on, I'm sure it will be solved by installing OS4.1 final 8^)

I have had similar problems, but found a solution. It is a crazy workaround, but it works.

When I first tried to purchase something through AmiStore, it opened up Netsurf and displayed the payment website. When I clicked the button to pay with Paypal, it opened up a blank page.

I modified URL prefs to use ODYSSEY | APPDIR:ODYSSEY | "*"https://%s*"" and disabled Netsurf.

When I tried to purchase through Amistore using Odyssey, it opened the Odyssey about page. I switched URL prefs back to use Netsurf, and clicked to purchase Radeon 2.4 in Amistore. I then highlighted and copied the address from Netsurf and closed it. I opened Odyssey and pasted the address in Odyssey. I clicked to pay with Paypal and got the message that my browser did not accept cookies. I opened up Odyssey's prefs and made sure cookies were in fact enabled. I tried to pay with Paypal again... no cookie support. So...

I once again selected Radeon 2.4 in Amistore, copied the address from Netsurf, pasted it in Odyssey, clicked to pay with paypal, copied the address from Odyssey, closed Odyssey, opened Timberwolf, pasted the address in Timberwolf and finally got to Paypal where I paid for the Radeon driver.

Whew! There has got to be an easier way of doing this!

PS: All of the above mentioned browsers are up to date.

Installing Lightwave
Just popping in
Just popping in

Good day,

I am new to Lightwave, having never installed it on a classic system.

I'm trying to install Lightwave on my little SAM460ex. I have the 4.3 Toaster CD and the 4.3 installer floppy adf image. The install script does not work. I tried using it under WinUAE, and the installer freezes after selecting components.

I want to know what I need from the CDROM and adf in order to run Lightwave. What programs and libraries do I need? What ASSIGNs do I need in user-startup?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

[Thread resurrection mode]

I'm looking for a copy of Lightwave 5, or the Video Toaster CDROM 4.3 that includes Lightwave 5. I tried contacting NewTek, who informed me that they no longer have any copies of the Amiga version of Lightwave or any VT support software. Does anyone know where I might be able to get it?

@eliyahu

Several have already mentioned that your graphics card choices are limited to single-slot card in order to use your pci slot; however, that is not necessarily the case.

I use an ARC1-152-C7 riser card for my PCI slot, which makes room for a dual slot HD 4850. The riser card has my sil0680 card. With enough ribbon length, the ARC1-152 can allow you to use a dual slot graphics card and all of the slots on the SAM460ex. Just make sure you have adequate cooling and air flow in your case (as always).
