Sorry for being lame but what is this? I have no clue...

It's a text adventure. I prefer nowadays this game type as the adventure happens only in my own mind, in my imagination, not on the screen. The player is not restricted anyhow by the graphics created by the author, in cotntrast to graphical games.

Hibernated is a little bit complicated as a starting point to this genre, e.g. Davide Bucci's games are somewhat easier for a newcomer (http://davbucci.chez-alice.fr/index.p ... ueen.inc&language=English). He has created masterly the atmosphere of the epoque used in his games!

Hibernated 1 (help needed)
Just popping in
Just popping in

I have been stuck in Hibernated 1 (revised version) almost a year now... So, I think there is no other choise than ask for help!-)

First I advanced in it very steadily, and has already achieved these:

- Free access to all rooms of the foreign spaceship, and Olivia has become the commander of it

- IO has been integrated into the bridge of the the foreign ship

- Olivia has met the old navigator and got from him a 'silver disc', which I suppose contains a map that is needed for navigating the ship to it's home planet

But I have not been able to to find out how and where to use that 'silver disk'! I have tried to pose it on all possible (and impossible) locations but has not found the solution. IO does not have anything to say, no help from there either...

So, could someone please guide me a step forward...? No need for long recipes, just a small hint how or where to use that mysterious 'disc' .

Not all modes will work. Here is what I did. From the GUI use the Audio Mode button and try selecting vaious selections from the list that appears until you find one that works. Note that if you select one that doesn't work all the gadgets will be ghosted and you will need to restart the program. On my system non of the 16bit selections would work. I had to choose a 32bit one. It depends on the sound card you are using. Once you find a mode that works then convert it's Hex value to decimal and you should be able to use it in the tooltype setting. Note that once you set if from the tooltype you can no longer change it from the GUI because the Audio Mode button gets ghosted. Hopefully this will help you out.

Thanks for your answer... In my case, even those modes which work with AHIRecord, cannot be preselected by using the MODE tooltype. But I also noticed that the mode selected in AmigaOS sound prefs is used as a default in AHIRecord. Unfortunately that does not work with the INPUT - AHIRecord seems to use always 'mixer' as default.

Is the author of this program still in business...?

@ktadd @jabirulo

I got this result from a converter:
0x001E0004 -> 1966084

But MODE=1966084 tooltype has no effect. I also used INPUT=3, which should match 'MIc' which is third on the list but no effect. either.

Any idea what I do wrong...?

I cannot find from the readme file of AHIRecord, how to set the default 'MODE' and "INPUT" port of a sound card (SoundBlaster Live!). There are the respective tooltypes in the program icon, but I cannot see any info what value should be used to get a certain mode or a port. I have tested different integers but the defaulf 'Input' is always 'mixer' when the program is started. I would like to change it to 'mic'

There are many possibilities, I can only guess which one(s) might apply.

How about the cable...? I used a simple 3.5/3.5mm (m/m) one without any 'disturbance removers'. Should it have those?

Quote:
The input you used was either microphone or line input, either of these can be overloaded by a headphone connection. I suggest trying lower volume levels on the source device. A "best possible" solution would be to use line level outputs to the blue connector. It would be SO MUCH EASIER if we had proper "VU Meters" for AHI inputs and outputs. (note, we DO have proper VU meters for X1000 and A1222 builtin audio. I've used them extensively for about a year now. They just haven't been distributed yet)

I tested only the line input, not the microphone one. What is the difference between these two...?

Quote:
The method itself is solid. The noise is either a level problem (most likely) or a poor connection, or possibly a noisy source. The "device level" software is doing a simple copy, it's not adding or subtracting any noise.

Ok, that's good to know.

The instrument I have uses a preamplifier ("Control box") which has three different outputs: headphone, unbalanced and balanced output jack (https://uk.yamaha.com/files/download/o ... 9/SV250_WT66620_R1_en.pdf). But I do not have suitable cables to test any of them - even the one I used with radio is far too short for this purpose. As I am not at all familiar with electrical instruments, I have not yet figured out what type of cables should be used, and which of these options would work best.

To record directly from a sound card input:

Copy AUDIO:SECONDS/10/TYPE/AIFC/B/16/F/44100/C/2 sample.aifc

I tested this now, using simply a radio (with headphone connector) as a source. It worked but the sound quality of the sample was very poor... ("rough" ) Is there anything to do to improve the quality, or is this a limitation of the method itself?

@Raziel/Broadblues/LyleHaze

Thanks for all for advice! I think I will test first Lyle's tip... Not much to really record yet, though, as it takes still long time before I learn to get anything tolerable out of my instrument ;)

Recording from a sound card

Is it possible to record the output of a sound card (SoundBlaster Live!) directly to a file? What software is needed?

If I would like to do that from an external source (an elctrical instrument), is it possible to simply connect the headphone output of the instrument to an input port of the sound card?

I also wonder why my idle power consumption is so much higher compared to some of the other tests in this thread? My guess is the 2x mechanical SATA harddrives. Any thoughts on that?

It is probably mostly due to the graphics card. RX 550 cards have a TBP of 50W, whereas for my HD 6450 that value is only 18W.

Sorry I didn't verify if the download still worked.

Try this one instead.

Thanks! Got it downloaded now...

The power consumption was 59-60w during the first mission, so there was only a 2-3w rise. Tested also BubleShooter DX, it gave 60w, too.

I still have a PCIe slot left (the mini one)... you say you have a SATA/USB controller hooked to one of those slots. What brand etc are you using for that? The PCI based controller I have for the extra SATA ports are probably 20 times slower compared to the two internal slots on the AX5000. I wonder how fast PCIe is compard to regular PCI. :)

It is this one:
https://www.reichelt.com/de/en/pcie-x1 ... delock-89389-p180132.html

But it is useful only with Linux as there are no AmigaOS drivers for it! There are no faster Sata controller boards available for AmigaOS than those ancient Sata1 controllers (Sil 3112/3114/3512), due to the lack of drivers.

@Cageman Quote:
How much does your next gen Amiga draw in idle mode as well as power mode? Power mode would be when you for example play a demanding game such as Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy or Doom 3.

I will post my results mid next week... but for those of you who can already measure this, please add a comment.

My X5020 which is in a Fractal Core 2500 case (three fans; fan controller in middle setting) takes 57W when idle... I have in my machine a Radeon HD 6450 (with fan), a couple of SSD disks and a 1 TB mechanical HD, a Soundblaster Live! (PCI), an Ethernet (PCIe) and a Sata/USB controller (PCIe) board.

I do not have any demanding game in my machine to test...

BubbleShooterDX and level 146

To my surprice, there is not a single topic about BubbleShooterDX on this forum. Is there anyone else here who has this game?

I would like to ask advice... Is it technically possible to play succesfully all the levels of BSDX, without cheating (=without using money)? I and the other members of my family have never been able to pass the level 146 cleanly, even after intensive trials.

Any tips from experts how to solve the level 146...?-)

@HansQuote:
RadeonHD v5 only supports the Southern Islands range, so it's not usable with the older Radeon HD 6000.

Unfortunately, this was the only feasible way to add UVD and GART. Previous versions were based on older driver code which AMD & open-source driver developers no longer maintain. Back-porting isn't realistic.

Ok, thanks for a clear answer! That saved me from buying a driver which is of no use for me. I will continue to use Linux/VLC for videos which is not a bad option - just a few reboots more .

There seems to be available a new version of the RadeonHD driver... (https://amigakit.amiga.store/radeonhd- ... gl911f0t5q9ntpkt3lvtk74r7¤cy=EUR&aksid=kgl911f0t5q9ntpkt3lvtk74r7) But I cannot find anywhere detailed information what it can do with different Radeon HD series'. Could someone please post this info here? Thank you!

I would be especially interested to know whether there is any advantage with Radeon HD 6000 cards in video streaming, compared to the older v. 3.7 driver.

Beware before spending thousands of dollars on one of these motherboards as there doesn't seem to be any after sales support. I am beginning to think this is an old 2016 board that someone had put away.

P 5040
MCU 2.5
CPLD 2.2.1.0
Serial # xxx00097

Those parameters are identical to the Beta boards, as well as the revision (2.2) and the UBoot version (molsen-2018-10-05). Amedia confirmed a few days ago that there has not been a new production run for the quadcore Cyrus but these "new" boards were produced already some years ago, but they should be unused and not refurbished.

An educated guess: A-Eon made originally a production run of at least a hundred boards (the serial numbers suggest that), primarily for testing purposes. A part of them were delivered to Beta testers, the rest of them stored as a reserve. Now when the dualcore bords are outsold, they decided to distribute these boards they still have left.

What comes to Amedia, I guess they are currently on vacation and do not read their email... It is the same with Relec, I got yesterday confrimation from their former director.

X5040 - what Cyrus+ revision and UBoot version?

Some lucky Amigists has reported they have recently bought a brand new X5040... Congratulations!

Could you please reveal, what revision number does the motherboard (Cyrus+) have, and what is the version of UBoot? If you run the command 'usb reset' in UBoot's cli, does there still appear a cascade of USB errors, as happens with the UBoot of beta machines?

Do you have any MorphOS machine around? You could connect the drive as an USB disk. MOS's Mounter can recognize a MBR partition and create a mountlist for it. You could then try to edit the mountlist parameters (device etc.) for use with AmigaOS.
