Try holding left shift key and doubleclicking an OS function name in the editor window. Enjoy!

A Rollback feature not working properly could render a system unusable...

@ssolie:

Pls, dont just give ironic comments, change the situation at least for such features instead. Betatesting must be more robust regarding vital features. Theres no room for sloppiness like it was for ClickToFront.

Like I said, it will take time for everyone to adjust to this new way of delivering software.

Its even more interesting to see all the reactions from the other side. They tell a lot about mind conditions.

I, for one, will never adjust to "this" new way of delivering software. You will read from me every time you deliver a faulty update/an update that breaks other system parts until you adjust your way of delivering system software

Re: Keyboard dies

Is it connected to the "rear" ports or the "front" ports? If its hooked to the "rear" ports (the onboard ports on the rear" of the mobo), connect it to the "front" ports (connected to the mobo by cable). Try again.

I had severe problems with my Logitech G15 keyboard, after I attached an USB2.0 hub and plugged the G15 into it (e.g. it stopped working immediately after AmiUpdate has finished its update process. Weird...). Before that I had "keyboard losses" from time to time. Theyre solved by re-plugging the keyboard, but this wasnt nice at all.

Since using the "front" ports, the G15 works ok (so far). One keyboard loss, but I think this was caused by a faulty program, messing with foreign (most probably the USB stacks) memory.

Well, here its still working fine (except for a crash with GraphicPublisher of TurboPrint, but I can ignore it and printout works).

Thx for the clarification.

@ssolie:

Yeah, some API extensions regarding this (and other things needed for debugging) would be very nice.

Hmmm... at least, the locks made by the dos.library should be accessible in any way, as system monitors like e.g. Scout are able to show all locks that are currently active.

So there must be some linked list to traverse and investigate...

@broadblues:

And theres another issue... obviously you missed to "bumprev by hand" the sketchblock executable, Update constantly reports that the remote version is 1.8 (05.12.2012), where the local version is 1.8 (21.11.2012). If I do a "version Sketchblock FULL" after the update, it reports the date 21.11.2012.

@Chris

Im glad you found a way to get the node, finally. I couldnt have been of help with this, as I rejected the use of speedbar.gadget as soon as I saw the weirdness of it.

Yes, speedbar.gadget should be fixed soon, because, as you pointed out, it could be of use in many programs.

Well, the IDCMP_UPDATE handling isnt weird at all. It was invented for very special and rare cases of Intuition event handling, far away from simple gadget event handling.

What indeed IS weird is the fact that speedbar.gadget was taken over to OS4 completely unchanged. This gadget is a complete mess, and it is weird to manage (not to mention the handling of it. "Oversize" speedbar gadget are crude to handle for a user. I would NEVER use it. Instead I would make up my own).

In a normal case, it would have been abandoned in its current form and replaced by a gadget that is handling its internals like e.g. clicktab.gadget and relatives do.

These dont need an IDCMP_TARGET to tell what node of the gadget was clicked. Simply get the node number from a quite normal Intuition gadget message and resolve the appropriate node to get more information.

See where the problem is?

Hehe, well, we dont have any special USB CD support

It works because we have a rather good USB->IDE support. It wont work with drives which need a special driver for Windows, but the "driverless" ones will work. Its enough if the drive supports SCSI3 command set.

You could even use a very old Mitsumi IDE CD burner via a USB->IDE bridge, it will work (well, sort of, its a Mitsumi ), too

This particular one is a user fault, indeed.

Nonetheless, AmiUpdate2.20 IS crashing when it updates itself. It happened to me yesterday, and I definetly have not changed anything in its path. Danish and Greek catalog arent updated properly, too.

SAM440ep with Update 5 here.

Fun? There is no fun! (slightly altered movie cite. Anybody here knowing what movie it was? )

Btw., its more useful to tell some beta testers the bug if they dont see it. Might be a better way to get another update soon

@broadblues & salass00:

The Context Menu is drawn over the scrollbar, but the scrollbar is partially visible within the context menu. This appears to be ReAction related, as this doesnt happen with MUI programs.

Its not a NotePad-only bug, Filer and many other RA programs show the same behaviour. To say something good about RA ;), MUI programs doesnt allow for a context menu as long as the user is scrolling using the scroll bar. But I think RA should get some mutual exclusive logic for handling this case (or Conext Menu).

And I have to disagree... if they decide one day to bundle it with OS4.x, you suddenly have two nearly identical versions with different version numbers out in the wild.

I dont see any problem with a major version number of an application correlating to the OS major version number (its quite useful instead. So you could see if its meant to be used with OS4.1+ for example). But it has to be mentioned in the readme, which REvision was the initial one.

Hey, its only about where to begin with the counting. To start with 1 is convention only

Depends... there are non-DOT4 adapters and there is a preliminary DOT4 driver reported to work in certain circumstances.

Best bet would be to try one of the old and cheap USB->IEEE 1284 adapters. You will recognize them, as most of them are USB1.1 only and really cheap (about 5 EUR).

Hmm... I wonder why nobody here tried the ? wildcard.

"find COMMENT ?" finds only files with at least one character within the comment field. One could extend this pattern with several other patterns contained within brackets, I would suppose.

Glad I could help with this

Hehe, yes, really an odd feature I use some old, but still nice 21" HP CRT monitor here. Huge thing, but with nice features like colour calibration (automatic!), two VGA inputs switchable by hand etc. It seems to have a quite big NVRAM for storing screenmode settings, as I have a dozen different screenmodes, and all are remembered.

Re: Why are my low-res modes missing?

Just popping in

@Chris:

Use the "D" option for the screenmodes below 640 x 480.

Example:

MODE=320x240@75D

The "D" option is another of the many undocumented features of the monitor driver system. It enables "doublescan", which seems to be needed since Update 3 for very low resolution modes.

I think there was some enhancement made to the monitor driver system, as I noticed better display quality with Update 3.

Maybe the calculations regarding the pixelclock were enhanced, so that certain standard modes meet the VESA requirements, finally. That may be the reason for your 640 x 480 mode not working anymore, as you will most possibly need the "D" option for such low frequencies. 60Hz is far below VESA standard 640 x 480 mode, which is 640x480@75 normally.

Remember to update the prefs of all applications that specify their own screen, as screenmode IDs will "move" unpredictably.

Almost forgot: Watch out for the vertical frequencies, if you use the "D" option. Its possible that your display wont work with e.g. "75D", so you may be forced to use lower frequencies.

Edit: You may need higher frequencies, not lower.
