@ToAks

My monitor res is 1280x1024 but there doesn't appear to be that res in the list on Heretic 2, it goes from 1280x960 (Which gives a flickering bar at the top of the screen) then 1600x1200 which runs off the screen.

Do you know if there's a way to define 1280x1024 for Heretic 2?

Ah, that'll be down to IBrowse.

IBrowse doesn't yet support full alpha channels. Basically, It takes the alpha channel at 50% & cuts it. i.e. The image shows up either solid, or transparent with no gradual alpha calculated in between.

AFAIK, there's no way around this until something gets updates with IBrowse. Changing the IB settings so that it uses an "external" image decoder for PNG's doesn't even sort it, even though we know the datatype supports alpha channels fully.

Sadly, for nice shaded/antialiased images on our web pages via IBrowse, we'll have to wait a bit.

Heretic 2 seems to run fine with the MiniGL rendered. With the software rendered I have that 'effect', the big/small endian thing where vertical strips are flipped so it looks funky.

I've used some of those savers on my Mac. Some look better in stills than in action

Didn't anyone check out http://www.electricsheep.org/ ? There really are pretty savers. And constantly changing, which is what I like.

There's a couple of sample .mov files on the samples page if you want to see the kind of things they produce (Note: They don't have the fastest server at times so the preview movies may take a while).

I remember a version of Flying Toasters on a blanker called MadHouse. That had toast & you had the option of havine Jam turned on or off. Nice touch.

Ooh, just two more for now

The ability for an icon to be replaced by the apps Docky.

eg. Rather than having both an icon for TuneNet & it's interactive Docky, the Docky replaces the icon so it's only shown once.

And (This one's probably down to the application itself though), when an application is runnng, a right click on it's AmiDock icon to hold functions specific to that app.

Also,

If an App icon does not have a name underneath it, but your icons do, Let the app icon use that spare space rather than leave it blank.

And, the ability to open the directories of Hidden devices that are held in the Dock. Drop a Disk icon in AmiDock, then hide that device using Prefs/Workbench & now try & open the window. D'OH!

Re: Special Screenblankers for Special Occasions

I've thought this through too.

The messy way:

Have different Screen Blanker prefs saved for each scenario & have a script that runs either as set times or when you run/quit a program that replaces the Screen Blanker prefs with the one you need. Nasty & messy.

Or better, an update to the Screen Blanker Prefs program that 'listens' for programs or has 'time zones' that use a chosen saver at certain times. This would require a nice universal way of programs talking together. Maybe a combination of AREXX & application.library (Like de-activating the blanker when a movie is playing).

The only problem I hadwith the Zoom blanker is when I drop the horizontal AND vertical size both down to one. I get a Grim, Continue or Ignore (I forget which one) then it's ok. Other than that, Zoom worked fine here.

Here's a nice blanker I use on my Mac, it's open source so the code is available but I don't know what else it would rely on & whether or not 4.0 has the necessaries.

As I mentioned above, Overlay could be the better solution for scaling this one.

Re: Beautiful blankers from RWO

First, the thanks:

Thanks for these screen savers RWO I'm surprised that we haven't had more screen blanker modules created for the new system so this is a nice list.

A couple of ideas:

The speed of the new "3D" looking blankers. I always like to run a screen blanker at the same resolution a my Workbench. Seeing GLQuake & WipeOut 2097 (Quick examples) run at the speeds they run, I'm certain that we can have smoother savers in 3D at higher resolutions. Is the speed down to the original code not exactly being optimised for the OS?

With the "Scale" option that you have in a few of the blankers. Have you considered using Overlay for that? I'd see this as a quick fix to just getting the blankers to use the same screenmode as Workbench but saving in the slowdown when resizing.

Blanker options:

I'd like to see more blankers 'changing' as they go, rather than using the settings entered & staying like that. For example, the maze blanker. How about having a Min & Max size so each time the maze starts again, it'd pick a random size between those settings. The black hole; How about if that, every so often, speeds up & slows down, or reverses rather than staying the same all the time.

I could go on, I've had loads of ideas in the past where people have used them but not give me any credit for the suggestion (Excluding Alexw & Bean) so I'll leave it at that unless you'd like to hear more... Hope you get the idea though

Lastly, nice blanker list there.

Thanks again, FuZion.

I too noticed thta moving windows is slower. I just ignored it though, thinking it was just me seeing it differently. Now I've bumped into this thread, I thought I'd join in although I've not had chance to play with my Amiga since I installed the Final Update.
