Re: Sam440ep "The Red One"

@Helge

You may be right, but I think their ultimate intention is to supply it with OS4. If not, what's the point of make its public presentation as an end-user board at PianetaAMIGA? There's no point in presenting/selling another multi-OS -but OS4- board preciselly at an Amiga meeting, so I really hope OS4 will, if not now later, be supplied with it.

@rwo

Well, you never know where you'll find useful info :

http://atomicinternet.homeip.net/xtra/snappy/

(take a look at the bottom of the page)

http://www.ann.lu/comments2.cgi?view= ... &category=forum&start=1&5

In that last link there's an address that seems a good starting point:

Karl Soule'
GlobalStreams, Inc
KSoule@globalstreams.com

or you could try in their webpage, http://www.globalstreams.com/

Hope it helps.

It's going to be shown at Pianeta Amiga 2007, to be held next September 22th on.

Edit: I know, I submitted under "OS4 Hardware" forum, and it is not... Let's call it "a hope" ;?) Anyway, moderators feel free to move it to a more appropiate forum.

@TMTisFree

Perhaps because English is not my mother tongue, I cannot see any "tone" in his posting towards you, he's only advicing against taking any pair of mem sticks (i.e., used in pairs in an A1) as reliable without heavy testings first.

It's not that the sticks are faulty, so there's no real need to check them on another machine -unless you really suspect of a hard failure-, but that the A1 is quite unreliable when using them in pairs, it's related to timing, IIRC.

I myself am using 2 x 512MB sticks, and they have not passed memtester fully, at some stage it reports some fault, so better take tonyw and mlehto advice for good and check sticks in place, copying large files to ram: and checking their integrity with md5sum against original files, as I did.

The Statement of Intent being blank, but being refered to as important to know what is ok to post as per the TOS is problematic, like it or not. One of my first posts here was in regard to an EFIKA I bought. I did not know much at the time about red vs. blue history, aw.net issues that lead to amigans.net formation etc. Instead I got a terse note saying my thread was killed for TOS violation. There was no TOS violation as its written. To me in hindsight especially it was that it was apparently not in the spirit of the blank Statement of Intent for which some members here take for granted to know what its ideology is even though its not written down for all members to see. Perhaps if someone were to start writing that Statement of Intent it would help with what you characterize as a misconception of some about this board?

I don't know the exact circumstances of the deletion of your post, but it seems you missed this "NOTICE TO NEW MEMBERS: Please Read" before posting. It makes clear what's the motivation of this site even if you don't know anything about red vs. blue or aw issues.

Anyway, and as I have already said, I don't know why it was deleted. If you feel it was not fair, you can still complain/appeal to moderators.

I have lived near Barcelona for many years, maybe 12 or 15, but now I live in Valencia, 400Km to the south. Anyway, if I can help in any way just ask.

What "lie" are you referring to exactly?

"..., because I am not sure if such a potentially volatile topic would be allowed here .", topics deleted just at will, censorship, blah, blah, blah... I think it's related only to posting rules, nothing else.

Some seem to find some kind of strange fun in repeating over and over that their posts will be deleted, that there is some kind of censorship here, when it's just that those garbage threads seen in other forums are not allowed here. I think points 5 and 6 of TOS are quite explicit about this, and IIRC that's the reason this website was created.

If you want to post what you think can be problematic, ask moderators first, or simply post it and wait for a reaction from mods, but don't post it saying "Hey, I post it but I think it could be deleted for being problematic", such statements spread, IMHO, a dark cloud over the site, a cloud of inexistent censorship.

Re: Amiga wordperfect to PC Word conversion

@TStJames

I don't think so, if you don't have a Catweasel card or use an old trick with two floppy drives (http://www.amigaforever.com/kb/3-118.html). There are many possibilities to transfer data: FTP, copying files to PC-readable disks (720KB/1'44MB) using CrossDOS, creating a CD with the data (MakeCD, now free, will do), using a terminal programs to transfer files via serial cable, copying data to some external drive/media combination that could be connected to the PC (ZIP/JAZ/tape/etc.)....

@xeron

Guess what...? Just for the fun of it, I searched and found my ancient WP v4 disks and tried it on OS4 and... it works! Well, sort of. It tries to open in a custom screen, so I promoted it to a 640x480x16b screen, text drag bar works partially, screen info text are weirdly displayed and requesters are not able to show all options, but still it's amazing it works at all, you can load modify and save documents:

Resized Image

IIRC, there was even a version 5 of WordPerfect for Amiga.

Re: Leaving?

@Mikey_C

My advice: don't do things based on other people acts, do because you enjoy doing them, or either stop doing them 'cause you don't.

I have 2 PCs, two Macs and 2 Amigas (XE-G4 and A1200/060). I work 8 hours a day in front of one of the PCs, but I enjoy every minute I sit in front of my Amiga. I cannot say the same about the PC...

If you're feeling down, switch off all your computers for some time, stay away from computers, forums, etc. for some time, in other words, take a sort of "technological holidays" for two weeks or a month, do other things not computer-related, and then come back with renewed energy.

Re: Amiga v Hyperion Update

An old Spanish joke:

"Two farmers arguing about the ownerships of a cow, while the lawyer of one of them and his wife are watching the verbal fight.

Then the lawyer's wife tries to say something about the question:

- 'I think the cow belongs to...'

- 'Shhh..!'-says the lawyer in a low voice, -'Shut up, woman! At the end, the cow will be ours!' "

@tonyw

I installed it originally on my A1200 system, and copied the installation over my A1 -together with all the stuff there when I bought the A1-, doing all needed assigns by hand, and it runs quite well that way.
