Re: SVG datatype/library linked pthreads problems

With regards the older svg datatype, when I was working on MindSpace, I always had trouble as soon as I wanted the datatype to render text. Other sorts of drawing/rendering were fine. Don't know if that's of any use or not.

Either Ben or Trevor mentioned that there was a change in the South Bridge used.

@jbni

I use nfs client from the version of AmiTCP that was in the NetConnect 3 package. I'm fairly certain it's on Aminet.

It's 68k, but works fine here (though not fast).

@TiredOfLife

Pretty much certain - I've followed the instructions about 20 times now...

Incidentally, the ip address and the "written" address given in Zero's workaround lead to (slightly) different sites.

I have no problem downloading a .pls file and opening that in TuneNet, which adds the stream to the playlists, so I can always search in OWB for the stream I want and then use it, but it just adds an extra step, rather than doing it all within TuneNet.

Sadly that workaround doesn't work here (SAM440ep, OS4.1 update 2).

@djrikki

We're missing some of the dependencies needed.

You could use Sodipodi under AmiCygnix, or, if you're just wanting to do some very simple vector stuff, you could always use MindSpace, although it's primarily aimed at creating Mind Maps and URL type diagrams.

As far as I understand it, the Amiga (paper) book will cost money to cover the printing costs and as a small revenue/motivation for the authors.

Spot on. This project is hardly going to make us millionaires

The book will be produced by a carbon-neutral printing company.

Once the initial print run has been sold, there may be opportunities for e-media versions.

Hi Simon, thanks for your input.

Does that mean there is an official book in the works? I know Olaf was working on updating the RKMs, but that was a while back, iirc?

[quote]A book like this is likely to cost in excess of 100 euro, purely because of the scale of work and the amount of potential buyers.

The majority of the work is going to have to be unpaid - ie the proofreading, editing, typesetting etc (that's why I need the community involved).

Bear that in mind when answering polls....

The quotes I have will allow me to to produce a printed manual at the price given. Clearly it may not be the quality of a "real" professional book by say, O Reily, but we are in need of something: using loads of disparate websites/electronic docs is tricky and a printed references of some sort is much more easy to handle and use away from the computer.

New Programming Book for OS4

There's a poll over on AW.net to see how many people would buy a brand new C programming guide for OS4.

Apologies for the cross post, but I'd rather have just the one poll running across the various sites.

Thanks

Re: graphics buttons

AISS has now been added to OS4, so the images should be available to all OS4 users. They should be in sys:prefs/presets/tbimages.

AISS works on OS3 and other Amiga like OSs so no problem using it on any of our platforms.

The bar across the screen when you boot up is, I believe, the programs being launched by WBStartup.

AISS used to set an Assign for TBImages.

This doesn't seem to be the case under 4.1 update 1, so a number of 3rd party apps may need to be fixed.

Re: How many SAM's have been sold?

The updated sound driver for SAM boards has been downloaded 631 times from OS4depot.

Some SAM owners won't have downloaded the file, some will have downloaded it more than once.

So I guess you can say the answer is NOT 631

@DaveP
I think Rogue meant that particular features (eg USB2, OpenGL) need a specific financial incentive, not that the whole of AmigaOS needs it. "project" would mean an individual's project to work on, not the whole AOS project.
