Installed and played BOS Wars on my PC last night and it was quite good. The graphics and game play have improved markedly, it would be nice if an AOS4 version could be made. Sources are available.

ace

Same here. It works well on the MSbox. An OS4 version would be great.

Have you searched the disks that came with the computer? I recall wondering where this info was for my preinstalled A1XE and found lots of info on one of the disks that came with my system. Hope this helps.

Development on Stratagus has permanently halted. The Stratagus developers are now working on Bos Wars. Bos Wars uses its own modified version of the Stratagus engine.

when I first read this, I had not been on the REBOL site for some time. Just in the last few days I have been back and have read more carefully and I think you are on the right path with this, and it is very exciting.

Very important to look up the Wildman Project to quote:

"is a "secret project" that examines the question: what is the minimal environment for running REBOL? Can REBOL operate natively on specific hardware, and if it did, what components would be necessary to be successful? This project will begin early spring. Complete development will depend on our results and possibilities for potential funding."

AmigaINc apparent break with TAO had me very worried as I have had a long interest in VP technology. That Bill announced a way of getting cross platform abilities without TAO intent, made me think they were going for static compiles.

On the other hand, a stripped down AmigaOS compiled for different HW platforms, add in REBOL, a few statically compiled plugins and we really do have something looking like OS5 and a lot more beside.

Greg, thank you. You have answered my question, "What does amiga have to offer Rebol?"
This could be it. This could be how Carl is thinking of self hosting Rebol.

@ssolie
I think you were trying to say as much but I needed more info. You just did not hold my hand like greg did.

PS it appears AMIGA Inc has been in contact with Carl (fingers crossed - this could be exciting).

I wonder how much to fan this fire...
When I was at Amiwest 2006 last October Carl made an appearance. I thought it was odd that he showed up at this particular time claiming he was looking for new Amiga hardware. (I had been at the previous 3 or 4 Amiwest shows without seeing Carl)
Now don't get me wrong. I am not claiming Carl was fibbing in any way. I just thought there was more to the story and wanted so much to ask questions. But I refrained out of respect.

Amiga can offer REBOL a host platform for a while. Amiga can also offer REBOL a passionate user base and developers.

Amiga is just not a big enough market. And REBOL already has a passionate user base. I don't know about the developer part.

I believe Mr. Sassenrath is on to something big with REBOL. I'm not sure if it will blast off like Python and similar but it is poised to do something big.

I would expect you to have a better idea behind REBOL than I. REBOL is going self hosting. Python and similar is nothing compared to what REBOL is going to become. imnsho

Distributed computing, whether distributed via TCP/IP or distributed via multiple CPUs and cores, is the future and REBOL is meant to live there.

The reason it looks so "Amiga" is that the original AmigaOS was designed in part by the guy that designed Rebol.

I don't know that he'd be interested in walking that long-ago-road again.

Carl had a problem with Amiga management, not amiga the computer. Make no mistakes, Amiga OS is Carls baby.

Given the correct situation I think Carl would jump at a chance to see Amiga go down the correct path.

I have read many cases where programmers have spoken of problems that AOS does have. Even reading what Carl has to say leads me to believe there were lots of compromises made in the creation of Amiga OS. If Carl could be free to create his OS without compromise he would love it. And we would all benefit.

But it all has to start somewhere. Why not Amiga.

With the changes in computing today I don't see AOS as the future. It might be fun and we all have good memories of it but Rebol seems to be a better path for the future than what AOS will provide. AOS was built for a desktop computer many years ago. It has taken Hyperion years to get it to where it is and it has a long ways to go yet. Rebol might be a good break in the chain and be the next evolution that is needed for todays computing. Carl is building an OS for today.

I have been reading up on Rebol lately and it sounds like Rebol could be positioning to do what Amiga, inc is trying to accomplish with Amiga Anywhere. The scope of Rebol is still expanding. Rebol is small and efficient which is very Amiga. And with the direction Rebol is headed why not just make it the new Amiga OS. It looks to me that Rebel has a lot to offer. The question is, does Amiga have anything to offer Rebol?

Does this idea fall flat on it's face or does anyone else think this is a good idea?

The scope of work is defined by contract.
The contracts are in this directory to read:
http://www.merlancia.us/amiga-hyperion/

What appears to be the original agreement with the scope of work can be found in the declaration by Fleecy - http://www.merlancia.us/amiga-hyperion/decmossshow_case_doc.pdf as exibit "A".

After reading that along with Bill McEwens declaration http://www.merlancia.us/amiga-hyperion/decmcewenshow_case_doc.pdf

Then looking back at past releases by Amiga inc - Try reading this and pay close attention to the date
http://web.archive.org/web/2004033021 ... 5f3981cdcb32d6e1cdbc65e5e
- I can only conclude that Billymc was trying to do what the majority of us wanted but was being hindered by Hyperion.

Of course we only have one side of the story. There may yet be more evidence show up.

Dammit, I knew this would bite back at one point.

I am really sorry about the lack of AmigaInput on the final ISO, but it was nowhere in a releasable state. We're going to try to take care of this for the final CD production, plus we will probably also add a version of the ISO with contributed software, we'll include AmigaInput on that one if it is finalized by then.

I hope I speak for everyone (except for the usual suspects of course) when I say I am happy we have anything. Before this release I was not expecting anything until new hardware so this was a welcome surprise even with a couple of minor oversights. Thanks.

Some loose ends are being recognized. Look at this as a beta release for the final CD pressing/burning.

I am trying to use a windows xp laptop to put OS4 final on a cd. I am having trouble accessing the lha archive.

Would someone please use head on the final archive and show me what the header looks like.

Using head to look at the header of the archive shows this:
C:\cygwin\home\work>head InstallCD-52.6.lha

!?-lh5-?u?? x??p~5 ?install.isoE5!O+U??'oY?y???'u^?^???+?-,O?,E?"??A,A`I?O,?VR$
TTr?Nvs`?^?<`?,(??O1?[???EW?1TG?I?\?0??h???U) I

Creating a test file with lha255 on this windows box then using head to see the header shows this:
C:\cygwin\home\work>head lha255te.lzh

?m-lh5-x O ???4 ??1.CPP+?M {Sv?????k??SA?x4h'[mm?'t>v'nO???????zb^ǣZ0?g?

Where can I find an lha program for this windows box that will recognize this archive?
