Re: USB devices that work with OS4.1 Update 5

Quite a regular

My ps2 mouse stopped working on my A1XE, gave me a bit of concern.

Anyway plugged in a Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 5000, and it certainly seems to work fine. Scroll wheel works better than my old mouse.

Slightly off topic, well way off topic.
Under one of the previous OS4 updates there was a utility which enabled the scroll wheel in 68k programs that were not designed for it.
I can't for the life of me remember what it was, or where to get it. Any ideas?

Timberwolf RC2 on a Dos/03 or Dos/07 is a PITA.
So slow it is unusable, bookmarks don't work [no save bookmarks window], and page loading is so slow I could boil an egg whilst waiting.
TW is much better on an SFS2 partition.

What are you calling an FFS2 partition.
I have set up a 1gb partition, set up and formatted as FastFileSystem 53.2 (DOS7). Is that what you mean?

Timberwolf runs as slow as hell, and it doesn't help that I have to re-save the timberwolf-bin evrey time I re-boot to be able to launch timberwolf.
With rc2 libcairo.so I get a program exception crash, and I have a crashlog if anyone is interested.
Without re-saving the Timberwolf-bin file before running rc2 I get an isi exception belonging to hunk/kickstart, and I also a crashlog of that if anyone is interested.
If I copy across all 3 RC1 .so libs timberwolf runs so slow I could fry an egg between pages loads.

At least on an sfs02 partition it ran at a reasonable speed, I just couldn't save bookmarks, and I had system freezes when trying to post on forums.

The time investment required for this is becoming more than the time available.

Same here since i've installed the old Cairo lib from RC1 archive to RC2 so you are not the only one

I'm running RC2 on an A1XE-G3 800, with update4, from an SFS02 partition, and links are shown in blue.
When I move the pointer over them they become underlined and the mouse pointer changes to a hand.
I have other issues, bookmarks not being saved between sessions and a system freeze when trying to post replys.

Fixed and re-uploaded to OS4Depot.

The graphic loading is fixed, but I have other probs...

1. The up button doesn't seem to work.
2. The Audiobooks are displayed, but when selected a music track is played.
3. Music videos, always give the error "There seems to be an error with this clip". Which might be related to problem 2.

This is on an A1XE-G3 800 running OS4.1 update4.

One more question though, if you dblclick on a downloaded file on the dl window, in example lha, and select to open it with unarc, it doesn't do anything. Is this normal? Shouldn't it pass the filename to the selected program?
I think that's just not yet implemented, the same as opening pdf files directly from "Save as PDF"
For now, if you save the file to disk, you can then use def_icons to open the appropriate program.

Should I be able to change the font size? The default font used throughout the GUI (labels, titles, etc, not displayed text) is much too big and ignores the system Font settings.

Look under the toolsmenu and select options, and a preferences window opens.
Select content icon at the top, and the second option on that page is Fonts & Colours.

Following on from the thread about a complete installation of the latest version of tunenet, I decide to upgrade mine to v92.58, from v92.44.
Upgrade went fine, and I also installed the tunenet update from OS4depot to allow the radio stations to work.
I then tried to record a track from one of the radio stations, and got a visit from the grim reaper.
This is the crashlog (truncated)

Does anyone understand these things well enough to comment.

Also if anyone has managed to record from a radio station, can you list the steps that you took to succeed.
I set up a media folder in tunenet prefs, but as soon as I select the record option on the tunenet menu, up pops the GR.

About my download issue i noted that if i try to download a file and then close Timberwolf --> at the next restart i can see the download starting just opening the download window from menu.

So download seems working in a way or another but still some issue on my system.

Downloads, supposedly haven't been working for me either.
After your post, I opened the downloads window, via the tools menu, went to OS4Depot and downloaded pftp to see what happened. pftp.lha showed up in the dowloads window and reverted to a one line entry.
Previously, when trying to dowload I set up a dowloads directory Temporary:Timberwolf/ and I looked in there to see what had happened, nad pftp.lha had downloaded ok.
Also there was an "install_flash_player_osx.dmg" downloaded as well, this was from one of the missing plugins messages, and install manually, on a previous session.

So having thought downloads didn't work for me, creating a download directory, changing download prefs in Timberwolf to match, and opening the downloads window before tying to download, has enabled downloads.
I will have to play around more to see what I actually have to do each time.

Mplayer is a port which can only be updated once textured video is supported. DvPlayer is a contribution to OS4, and still actively under development, so I would expect Stephen to update DvPlayer when Texture video is also available.

Basicaly, chicken and egg, you can't have support until it is available, and you can't see how useful it is until it is supported.
