Re: Compatibility of (old) PowerUp/WarpUp PPC software with NG hardware?

@Dandy

If money is limited I would recommend you to use AmigaForever on your modern PC

In many cases there are modern applications available that are free of charge (either freeware or open source) that can easily replace the old amiga software like gimp for image processing

Amiga is a nice and interesting hobby, not more. Trying to use it as a main productive platform does not sound very reasonable to me (be it the limitation of the OS, missing drivers, no up-to-date office, no up-to-date browser and so on). Use the PC side for serious work and the emulation for rest and for fun. And if your health issues are solved and you have more disposable income you can still buy a NG system.

it seems things around X5000 become serious

one user on a1k who preordered X5000 wrote that he was told to prepay parts of the price

the price for motherboard: 1700 EUR
Full system: 2300-2500 EUR

It is the dual-core system

there are some controversial discussions now on a1k about it

Bounty to solve endianess issue in Odyssey's JavaScript engine

Solve the endianess issue in Odyssey's JavaScript engine to allow using it on big endian CPUs. One of the approaches
can be to bring in the minimal set of changes from Leaopard WebKit repository to Odyssey repository.

discussion here:

I could imagine that it would be interesting for AmigaOS users. Perhaps people could participate in discussion.

@zzd10h

me not too... same as tolkien

but I have a not yet installed classic version so I will be :)

but it is very propable that there are a number of people registered who only bought the 68k version of PPaint and not interested in AmigaOS

@kas1e

There is still the rexxmast error (post 240) happening (at least for me on Aros 68k, propably on 3.1. too). Could you look at it? The problem is that on WinUAE there is the error requester and it at least works but on FS-UAE the system crashes so (to support both) AREXX support is deactivated on Aros Vision by default. It would be great if I could enable it after fixing. Thanx

@AmigaBlitter

It is based on the unity engine (commercial). These engines partly are very complex so it has to be seen if it would be portable to AmigaOS at all. Linux is supported by unity so it is certainly doable. The team that tries to port it will get graphics/music files and the sources (that require unity). Then good luck with the port. But perhaps I am too pessimistic there, who knows.

@djrikki

"I keep having to resist the temptation to post classic Amiga news which is counter productive"

Why is news about activity in the 68k community "counter productive"?

I am just about creating a online docu for Magellan. It is still in work but needs changes, adding links and informations from another PDF are missing but it already could be useful (will be updated)

@Severin

Sorry to say that but I followed your link and when I started to download it I wondered that it is a exe. I thought it would be a self-extracting archive but was warned by my antivirus software and the file was removed.

It is not directly port related but I use the SASC (old) version on AROS 68k now. It seems that the functionality almost completely works. The biggest problem were ugly icons (problem that already existed in the past and was solved with a patch on Amikit). Now PeterK (icon.library) has adapted his library and now it works . Jippiih. So I am now working on next version of AROS Vision using Magellan and the newest icon.linrary .

thanx for information. I would like to test the OS3 version. I am not a C/C++ programmer so I cannot help there much. If you can describe the problem I could ask for help.

Any news?

I have read the "error page" that Xenic is "done for now". Any chance for a first public version? I am of course expecially interested in the 68k OS3 version.

Any public version yet?

I would like to start to test the 68k (AROS 68k) version

the "not-display" of icons is not related to GCC but always was there. On Amikit it was fixed by patches but those cannot be used on AROS 68k. I think it only has NewIcons support.

and is the problem with the icons already fixed? Another problem I have found using it on AROS 68k as desktop is, that user menu cannot be edit correctly (name is not saved, so new menus always have the name "Unnamed")
