Hi,
@Mikey_C
he,he, i have [ATM] no OS4... But 2 PC IBM workstations .. on this i play [with friends at LAN from time to time] OpenTTD too .. but the LATEST nightly WITH MANY other cool stuff inside as even the 0.6.x beta relase ..
Have full configured ECS-NewGFX and many other NewGFX on track .. this change DRAMATICAL the Game !
Sad only for MOS the actual nightly is available .. so even with OS4 at Home .. i would stay on PC for OpenTTD.

Hi,
@moderators:
The Troll rating for Catalist is nearly 99,999% !
He postet the same nonsens [big partly exact the same] as "another" [or the same] user post to this Topic on Amiga.org.
He reg. here only to troll.
Most of his points was publical Loooong time ! [No G-Rex,No PCI DMA,...]
Only the non SCSI is a pitty [but publical loong time to that the BPPC get more problems, specialy with the SCSI] but already say in other Thread here.
So - please Remove Troll user that have ZERO interesst on OS4 and bring no civilized discussion to an Amiga forum.

Hi,
I musst agree with the OS4 Devs in a couple of points and so DisAgree ...
I can logical follow the sense that the BPPC-SCSI driver is not in the first Relase [to bring the OS4 quicker to the user] and that it is not a Real sense to support the A3kT/A4kT SCSI controler [with a clarification later].
BUT i cant follow the way that Devs say "forgot the expansive SCSI stuff and buy cheap IDE drives..." !
By the point from the BPPC-SCSI i see [already said] the Delay for the driver ..the resources are limmited.
But to say the IDE device is a nearly Full replacement for the SCSI on BPPC is a nonsens. The IDE driver eat more CPU cycles and is signifikant slower,this on a low CPU power system make the wohle system not faster .. And i would say all user that use a BPPC have a good and running SCSI system already, so switch to IDE generate only extra costs. I dont think a BPPC user will buy nowdays a new 160GB U320-SCA HD for 400EUR for his old Fast-SCSI system ... [I have on my CS-MK-III UWSCSI only U160SCA drives .. more make no sense] And SCSI drives have a realy LONG life ... [compared to IDE drives] So ... for BPPC-SCSI user the "cheap IDE" point is nonsens...
The Tower modells SCSI controler is only a good point for scanners [SCSI1], i have self an SCSI2-DVD-ROM [Pionear-Slot-In] and an SCSI2-CDRW [Plextor] in my UWSCSI system and my Big SCA HD get ~38MB/sec with AmigaMARK. IF a usb-scanner solution come in the near Future, the usage of this hard to support device is pointless.
Now we come to my point that hurt me... No SCSI support [i mean usable SCSI support- not a limmited support with an 8bit SCSI1 driver for usage of the {above as ancient marked..} SCSI scanner and data transfer from old SCSI1/2 HD?s to the IDE drive] in OS4 in the next Future ....
To say SCSI is nowdays expansive is right ... But this to say to a usergroup that love his exclusive OS [dont Mainstream!] on very expansive [much more if it in relation to the Power he offers to actual other systems] HardWare with the Touch of individualism .. is maybe a little bit wrong ...[from my sense] If the users need "Cheap" .. i dont think Amiga is his option. And SCSI have a big history on Amiga systems ...
We have drivers for Audio cards [not all and not the proffesional High-End but a good Mixture of cheap,good and semi-pro cards] and GFX cards [not the actual High-End but very nice in the ATM right level] and IDE cards [a good mixture from various cards] ..but no SCSI card.. I dont say support actual SCSI [SAS] or exotic Pro-SCSI cards.. I dont pray for the older U320SCSI cards or the old U160SCSI Cards .. I pray for ancient UW2SCSI cards [the chipset that is already in the limmited 8bit SCSI1 mode supportet .. dont remember the name] to use very good HD?s with a much more power than a IDE/SATA drive [not only the TransferRate/Seek-Time, tagged-queuing btw is only anounced for SATA2 ...... on SCSI it is already!] and much more quality and duarability ...
I see the point that not much user would use on new systems SCSI ... But for me with my equipment it is a MUST HAVE [specialy for the Backup on DLT Streamer]. To Clarify- this is going only for my Main System .. on my second or third Amigas i use always IDE .. I have no problem to pay [even 200EUR] for an GOOD SCSI driver ... But OS4 without SCSI for me is not a good Option.

Hi,
@TetiSoft:
Sorry .. you missunderstand this a little bit ;)
To clarify :
I jumped here in, based on your message :
"...SCSI is a dead standard nowadays.."
And sorry, i reffere in no sense to classic HW. [this i think you have missunderstand]
I would a NEW HW with the ability to connect an SCSI card to it and USE it.
I am think the BPPC-SCSI support is coming in the near Future .. and i think too it is importand for this low power PPC boards to save CPU time on all devices. And the BPPC-SCSI device IS less CPU hungry and powerfuller than any existing IDE solution ...
But in the OS4 Dev group [this is my sense] the opinion that SCSI is useless and dont important for OS4 over hand wins.
This is from my view a bad evolution .... Without SCSI on my next Amiga [OS4 based] .. it will no Amiga anymore for me.
And please dont come with "cheap" IDE drives .. If i like cheap . i realy dont buy any OS4 HW !
For the user that connect to here expansive 1000$ Amiga a 80$ IDE drive and is Happy is this no problem ...
But for the user that will connect an likewise expansive server grade U160SCA HD for 400$ to his lovely Amiga, or his 80GB DLT tape-Streamer for 2000$ to backup her partitions with DiavoloBK2000.. ATM it is no solution for this group..

Hi,
@TetiSoft
I dont reffering to the CS-PPC-UW/SCSI controler .. I was thinking of a NEW HW with an PCI-66 slot for an good UW2-SCSI controler with the chip that is always supportet on AOne OS4. But it use only 8bit SCSI-1 transfer.
This was the point i refering.
And i have no problem to buy an good server SCSI drive nowdays.. But i have a problem to buy OS4 HW nowdays .... :P And i can buy pro-Back-Up solutions without problems. But he all need SCSI .... All HD producer brings NEW SCSI or SAS drive on the market.. It is right that this expansive drives not for the normal user from interesst ..biu it is the same with OS4.

Hi,
@Rob
>I think SCSI support is imortant to people who have >invested time and money in their SCSI setup.
AND for Power user that dont need IDE [SATA IS IDE only on a serial line] and like the proffesional way ..
I dont buy a very expansive OS4 MoBo and then i musst stuck with simple IDE ...
How many frinds anywear he know with broken IDE PC Hard-Drives ? And full loose of his Data .. but on PC is this not a big task .. musst install new Windows anyway from time to time [or re-install a old system it is make to much problems .. so a new HD is a normal thing in the PC World ..]
This was happen to NO SCSI drive i use over the past 15 Years ! And i use parts of Data on my actual HD from good old K2.0 times.. [i think a handfull is from k1.3 times ;) ]

Hi,
I REALY dont see SCSI as a "..dead standard nowadays.." !
For the "normal" PC user it is without sense- this is right. But this was alltimes so ....
But i dont think "the normal PC user" buy OS4 or very expansive OS4 HW ........
I have here a good SCSI system on my A4k/060 with Cyberstorm MK-III UW-SCSI controler and i DONT buy a new OS4 machine without good SCSI drivers ! I dont need U160 or U320 or SAS or other more proffesional SCSI solutions .. a full supporting of the always running SCSI chips [UW2-SCSI 2 channel] would enough .. so the NEW system have a little more abdvantage as my 10+ Years old A4k/060 system ..... [UW2-SCSI <> UW-SCSI]
And i pray not the "more speed than IDE [SATA]" song ... But it is true that with SCSI the speed is significant more than with SATA [if you use quality SCSI drives] and i use proffesional backup storage with UW-SCSI DLT Streamers, so SCSI is a MUSST for my Main system ... Foreseen from the long life quality of good SCSI drives ..
I hope my next Main system will be an Amiga ...
[have bought in the past 3 month 2 ? PC {IBM Workstations Intellistations M Pro} to make the tasks that my old A4k is not usable,and for the nice Games that the OS4 user can play {OpenTTD/Wesnoth - and inspired by Rogue NWN, a fantastic Game ;) } and one PC just replaced my second A4k/060 Desktop with Apollo060 with WinUAE on here powerfull Multi CPU, one of them have UW2-SCSI and with this -No SCSI Future on OS4- messages my wish is growing to use the SCSI on the PC more as ATM {use my DLT streamer with him,ATM it is used on tha Amiga} ]

Hi,
@keisangi
please go and buy Windows and leave use Amiga user here alone ... [then you have all you need!]
Nothing you have mentoned was planed for OS4 or later. If you WILL this you have 2 ways:
1,Buy Win
2,Buy AInc,Hyperyon,ACube and invest a couple of multi-millions $ in the development too ..
It is you free way ....

Hi, [sorry - cant stay away by the topic OS4 & SCSI ...] i think all know my intention to this topic I will serious hope if new Power-HW become true (this i belive) and he have PCI-64bit slots for HD-Device cards (SATA/SATA2/SCSI) i see a more powerfull driver for SCSI as the current available solution ... I dont say support many chipsets ! I dont say support U160 or U320SCSI or {dream} SAS .....! I say only *PLEASE* support the now even supported chipset FULL ! [at UW2SCSI level and 2 channels/buffered RAM] This will be a "bit" more as in my 10years old A4000 060-MK-III with UW-SCSI controler i allready have ATM ... R-TEAM

Hi,
@Severin
i think is the number of PS3 related threads not growing to much .. and have the sense of OS4 related in the background this is o.k. ...
But if coming threads like PS3vsXBOX360 and so one this is to much ;)
This is an Amiga and not an PS3 forum :P
But one or 2 threads is o.k. for me ..
And i agree that OS4 and PS3 is a BlockBuster :)

Hi,
Why not create a seperate Forum ...? Like "ClassicEmu Forum" ?
To bring all OS4 classicEmu soft under one Point,and his development.
Petunia [68k EMU] Blitzen [AGABlitter EMU] ....... [AGAChopper EMU] ....... [Paula EMU]
This is easyer to follow .. and the OS4 user that dont need classic soft and this Emus [or dont care] can concentrate on OS4 native problems.
