@nubechecorre

As far as I remember one runs shareware version while the other the commercial one. But don't quote me on this.

"Smart folders"? Could you elaborate on this? I have never had a chance to play with MacOS X.

Well, I don't own OS4. I just wanted to know if I understand correct what is the purpose of this tool.

Recently a tool to create virtual drawers has been uploaded on OS4 Depot. Correct me if I am wrong. This program has the ability to create soft links (similiar to those in Windows). You are clicking on an icon which in fact executes another icon (tool) which is hidden deeper in the directory tree. You may have a drawer on the backdrop of your Workbench full of icons of the programs you are using?

So there might be problems with finding suitable hardware?

DMA is not supported. We were not ready to add any such hacks to our drivers so that you would set aside a bounce buffer on a graphics car (for starters, you don't necessarily have a graphics card in the PCI). We'll try to provide as many functional drivers as possible, but there are limits of course.

What problems you may encounter (if any) without support for DMA?

@Rogue

So, to run OS4 on classic (where I have OS 3.x installed) you need to have empty partition and installer will format it as FFS2 (or SFS)? Then it would be possible to do the rest of installation process. Did I get it right?

@PEB

I think YAM has its own MIME settings, so it is possible to set any viewer you like for different type of files.

@Alkaron

You are just bored with what you got and want something new knowing that there is something new ;) Having in mind that there is something prepared and might be available you are eagerly waiting for it and subconsiously don't want what you have now. If there were no hope for OS4 at all, no new hardware and so on, so you had to stick with OS 3.9 and "classic line" of Amiga you wouldn't say you are tired of it ;)

But let's end this OT. I just wanted to point out that "tired" was not the best word because it may bring rather negative impressions of what you do and what you have right now.

@Alkaron

So you are not tired of OS 3.9 but simply need change to something your hardware was more likely created for :) You feel that your Amiga is not fully used. I guess it is far more different from tiredness.

@Alkaron

I am quite tired of OS3.9.

Why? It really bothers me how one can be tired of OS he/she is using. Is it not meeting your requirements, your needs? What if there was no hope for "classic" users? Would you give up Amiga completely because of being tired using already installed OS?

P.S. In no way this post is supposed to start some flame or is an attack on Alkaron.

@SZAMAN

So, to sum up. Can anybody confirm if I am correct.

In SFS 1.274 there are really two types of SFS: SFS/0 and SFS/2. Purpose of this is just to seperate things for large files (for those below 4 GB the system uses SFS/0, for those above - SFS/2).

SFS/0 has the limit for the size of the file to 4 GB while SFS/2 can break the boundary of 4 GB.

I have an issues that really bother me. What are the limitations and what is supported by SFS 1.274 (regarding filesize)?

And one more thing. What are the advantages of a new format with large file support above that what was available in previous versions?

@hotrod

1. Porting takes time.

I am aware of it but look at the events. Announcement has been made two weeks ago and now we are reading that the project is halted/canceled. Proost Software have no experience in porting software to Amiga OS, especially OpenGL software which is not a piece of cake.

2. If nothing comes, what difference does it make?

I guess in the Amiga world we are really bored/annoyed/irritiated with broken promises and empty words. It does not make any difference if nothing comes out but at least we would not have a hope or this thread in the forum. By such things people become more and more aware of every word which is announced and laugh out loud with every another announcement that becomes potentially good news. It is because of such actions, threads on many portals and news sites considering OS4 are turned out into flame wars. It is necessary to bear that in mind. Nothing happens without a reason. And such actions are the reasons.

3. Are you one of those that allways writes that coment to everything that isn't released yet and if you are just stop it since it's really anoying.

No, I am not although I don't like reading enthusiastic comments under the announcement which end after 10 days in the trashcan. I am not one of those who cheer on every ocasion and announcement "just because there is a reason to cheer".

@Menthos

I think it is just the matter of time when we see that Racer is also canceled or halted. Proost Software seems to (if it is not another hoax) talk a lot while doing not much.
