Re: What the fastest possible x64 emulation way of OS4 today ?

@Maijestro

If uses software scaler, it help only upscaling the changed parts.

My guess that will just under cursor, and scrolling text, vu-meters, that means large part of screen does not need to be redrawen.

I should probably change that, so it’s not the default.

it’s a tool type option, of course trying out a bunch old programs, demos and games, something are going crash, because the software was never written to work with NallePuh. Its of course nice to not having to activate it again and again, after etch reboot.

@spotUP

The timing will always be effected by overhead of exception handler, some timing methods are there for better then others.

I guess it uses V/H Scanline positions not CIAA/B timing, there is option in Hippo maybe makes a difference, Hippo Source code is open source. I suck at assembler, so their somethings I probably won’t touch. The only reason I work on this, is because no one else did.

The scanline horizontal position is tricky, because of the busy loops. Perhaps there should be different settings, estimated and or loop until match. I guess there is also possible that vertical scanline position, can miss a scanline position, because it’s always estimated.

You can always have a look at the Nalle Puh code, and see if there is something you think you can improve. I think come down to different modes of operations, more compatible or more precise.

We can make sure ticks threw all the values and be where unprecise. Or we can always estimate the position, in that case a busy loop looks for value 6 or something, can miss multiple times. Or in the worst case never get value 6. a busy loop that does look for exact match greater than 6 or less than 6 should work with an estimate.

Pretty sure they do not have file lock, but libs are not automatic expunged when lib count is 0, they often stay in memory unless, system really need the memory. command “avail flush” forces a expunge. If library is not expunged, I assume library is not properly closed.

ScoutPPC is a useful tool to check this.

@AmigaOldskooler

2 years that’s crazy, there is always something interesting to read about, every time people say the platform is dead, I feel this disproves it every time.

The OS4 software library is getting better and larger, that’s for sure.

No idea, better do backup, do a quick format, and restore.
are you dual booting with MorphOS? If so then SFS that can be the problem.

@Olle

Strange things can happen if you render into screens bitmap, instead of screens rastport bitmap.
perhaps this what is happening.

Or perhaps in ARGB or BGRA is pretty common problem when using composition, that Alpha channel is not set.

I am not sure if a player should know all Hardware instead of a library

I agree with that, there is no way for program to know about new graphic cards, that does or does not support something, ideally the driver should know what it supports, I think.

This way Mplayer fail to like R9 and RX cards, simply because it looks for “HD”.

Checking if something has or has not composition for example is useless, because a driver can support hw ARGB composition, but not support hw YUV422 composition. So you can get false positives on that.

That’s way check for graphic card name in mplayer, as can’t reliably know if video composition worked.

Any improvement is better than no improvement, but its step-down form OWB and Odyssey and NetSurf, that all have CSS3 support. Right now, it’s more of a fun curiosity, I think. Just can’t think of any event where want to use a less capable browser.

You don’t need to do that, you can drag a drawer to the desktop and snapshot it there,
and put drawer away when you’re not using it.

and if you need to open parent directory you can do that from the menu.

Need to open a drawer from with path x, you do that wbrun from shell.

@trixie

SDL.
Simple DirectMedia Layer is a cross-platform development library..

Now if you started adding Amiga, MacOS, Windows, C64, Unix and Linux, api's to it, it wont be cross platform anymore.

Should menu be a standard API sdl perhaps, but mostly aimed at games.

But 680x0 programs don’t use .so files, nor do they compile with powerpc .a files. So why is important how 68K had allocated memory, as long as its shared, so it can be used in treads.

and wont it be loadseg job to load 68k programs, not elf loader, unless we are going to add aros 68k binary support any time soon.

@samo79

AmigaInput is buggy by design, if unplug a gamepad, it wont notify the game about it, instead it will free gamepad, from the OS, and game will crash.

Instead you need to busy loop to check if the gamepad is connected, and hope you notice before trying to read from the gamepad.

All games and emulators that use AmigaInput has at least a 20% chance of crashing, from my experience.

Things you can do, is use powered hub, incase of drop out due to power issues, try to replace the USB cables, if that does not help, you might be out of luck.

You can also try disabled sblive and other drivers in AmigaInput, some of this seams to be buggy, or cause problems.
