Definitely! I really like Mason's new stuff, so I plan to switch to them when they become available!

Very nice! Will these icons also work/install on OS 3.x?

If they are "OS4 32-bit icons" then the only way I have found to display them on OS 3.x is with AFA_OS. Unfortunately there is no individual tool like "PowerIcons".

The icons included with the installer are my first (and only) set in the native OS4 format -- the icons WILL work with OS3.x with Afa, but the installer will NOT (because ssolie's tooltype utility is OS4 only).

I did a lot of testing with OS3x (by commenting out the tooltype part) -- if you know what you're doing, that WILL work.

Ken's Icons 2009!
Illusionist
Illusionist

I realized today that I hadn't uploaded ANY icons in 2009! I've been painting all along -- just haven't made anything available. Here are some of the things I've done lately.

The first archive contains OS4 specific icons (that I was missing) and some additional icons for AmiKit.
Screenshot of Archive #1

The second archive contains miscl icons I painted for VMWAros a while back. Most are AROS specific, and not much use to OS3/4 users, but you never know what someone might need.
Screenshot of Archive #2

The third archive was also painted for VMAros, but is more generic. It's a collections of "computer" icons -- might be useful as disk icons or as network icons.
Screenshot of Archive #3

The archives are all available in the 'Downloads' directory at my website (files all begin with '2009').

(Doing my best Steve Jobs impression)

Just one more thing ...

A few months ago, Kindergip sold me his A1 Micro (for a screaming good price), so I decided to create a new OS4 specific installer/uninstaller for my icons. The result is pretty cool, in my opinion.

Thanks to skills of Severin, the install script is semi-intelligent -- it scans the source & target directories for matches and then replaces the image data of any matches it finds. It also creates a backup of each icon it replaces as it goes along (in Sys:Storage/Icons).

It's been tested on my A1 & two other machines (another Micro & a Sam440) -- no bugs or errors so far (but let me know). It takes about a minute (or less) to install (or restore) on an A1, but something like 3-4 minutes on a Sam! There's currently no progress indicator, but the installer DOES let you know when it's done (best not to do anything else while it's working).

Ssolie wrote a utility to modify the tooltypes of icons (and gave permission to include it), so the install script also adds a copyright notice when it changes the icons (and removes it when it uninstalls them).

The script is compatible with all released versions of OS4 thru 4.1 (including Classic) -- I painted everything that was missing from previous sets.

This was supposed to be the centerpiece of the first REAL release of "Ken's Icons v4.0", but since I'm slow and easily distracted, it makes sense to release it now.

Since it's still 'beta' (sort of), it's not in the main Downloads directory, but you can download it from here (for now). Also -- don't forget to make a freakin' backup!!!

Nice stuff.

I know you can't answer (or maybe you don't even know) -- but I want to know WHEN the next update will be released?

Re: new icons ?

We've been using the current icon size (46x46) for 10 years -- since back when 640x480 was considered a large display! The icons then took up a lot more screen real estate than the new 64x64 ones do today.

The new ones also look very, very nice -- it's amazing the amount of detail that can be added by just this small increase in size.

Plus, anyone who doesn't want to change can always revert back to the old icons.

On the Subject of the "buttons" -- I'm with Orgin on this one -- a button should look like a button, not a freestanding icon. However, they SHOULD have an alternate state (even a subtle one) -- this is Amiga, after all.

Maybe a vector-based icon format is necessary, which has a "native size" set.

There's a "project" at Open Amiga that would do just this, but I haven't heard anything further since it was assigned. This would be the best solution for both file size & quality.

No one has commented yet on the NEW icons Mason has painted for OWB & Filer, so I will!

Very cool stuff -- 64x64 which makes a LOT more sense with the size of screens nowadays and a BRAND NEW drawer design!

Kudos to Mason! Can't wait to see more of them.

@Mason

Thanks!

I just uploaded the complete archive to OS4 Depot. This contains the tooltype fix script (no need to run that again) and another script that fixes a couple of missing icons and fixes a few other problems.

I changed the name to "Fix_Icons".

Just to be clear -- these are MASON'S ICONS -- not my own. I'm just fixing "issues" with the orginal OS4 iconset (that were NOT the fault of Mason, I might add!).

Credit where credit is due!

We all know that Mason painted the icons for OS4 -- but 24 of the icons give credit to other artists! (carried over from where they orginally came from, I guess)

I fixed this right away on my own system, but I seriously doubt too many people are as picky as I am!

Since ssolie wrote a cool little utility that can add or delete text from the tooltypes of icons, I thought I'd create a little script that fixes the icon "credit" problem.

I just uploaded it to OS4Depot (as "Fix Tooltypes").

There are a few other icon goofs, but this fixes the big one. I have a script that fixes those too, but it uses icons from a couple of archives on Mason's site, so I need permission from Mason first.

@COBRA

Micro A1, running OS4 Final (with the July update).

How would I generate a crash log?

Edit: Nevermind -- there's apparently an option in Grim Reaper

Yes. The grim reaper comes before this point anyway.

@COBRA

I get a grim reaper when I first try to run this. Killing the app and trying again brings up an MUI window, but the program won't run -- just a black screen.

My system is very clean -- are there any libraries, etc. that this needs?

The registration conversion worked fine -- but there are still no downloads for me.

It shows my registered product, but on the old site I was able to download an OS4.0 update and the 25th Anniversary Theme Pack (there might have been other things, but that's all I can remember).

SEAL Ends Amiga Support ...

Maybe this was posted and I missed it, but SEAL announced on January 1 that they were ending Amiga support.

Mick Sutton (founder of SEAL) was the first person who encouraged me to paint icons for the Amiga.
