@Steady

I agree completely. Stubbornly refusing to rename their stuff to end the confusion is just shitty.

@NinjaCyborg

Or perhaps the logical conclusion wasn't that "they've had buggered up the config" but that something else had happened.

You know the conclusion someone sane would draw from the known facts:

- People were experiencing new problems.
- The dns config hadn't been touched for years.

Or I guess one could start talking about hallucinations to try to refute the known facts. Like any 'sane' person would do.

Restarted it.

Still no one that wants to take over hosting it? Perhaps with a more up to date ircd as well. I'd be happy to redirect the dns entries.

I don't use irc any more so I don't notice when it goes down.

@pjs

Might be related to this:

Quote:

Hi,

we would like to inform you about an upcoming emergency maintenance in our Datacenter Strasbourg (EU).
This maintenance is necessary after the outage on October 14th in order to further optimize the quality and actuality of our infrastructure.

The maintenance will be carried out in the night from Thursday, October 22nd, 2020 to Friday between 10PM until 6AM CEST.
(For our international customers: CEST/Central European Summer Time = UTC +2)

During this time we expect a one-time network interruption of between 5 - 10 minutes.

For further questions, please use the support ticket system in panel or contact our customer service by phone.

Thank you for your time and understanding.

Your Support Team

But again, if someone wants to host the IRC server, or rather, an IRC server then I'd be happy to redirect the hostnames there.

The current IRC server is running a really really old version and hasn't been updated for years.

@pjs

Yeah sorry, forgot to start it up again.

I don't really use IRC myself any more so I don't really notice when it's missing unfortunately.

Perhaps it would be better if the irc deamon was handled by someone that actually uses IRC.

More info:

Hello,

Thank you for your request.

Want to let you know that our DC technicians are still checking all the VPS nodes in a row because of the yesterdays outage.
We will let you know once the hostnodes will back to the production mode, so you will be able to check your server and
escalate any problems for a further troubleshooting.

As you probably already know, at 5pm (CEST) 14.10.2020 there was a power failure in a section of our datacenter SXB, which was caused by an error in the UPS (Uninterruptible power supply).In the meantime we switched the UPS into a bypass.The affected servers will be restarted step by step. Therefore it may take some time in individual cases until your product is available again.We are working with highest priority to make the services available again. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this.

Regards,
Technical Support Team

Our technicians work with the highest priority to get the remaining systems up and running again.

We apologize for the inconvenience. Please do not hesitate to open a ticket with us in case further support is required.

Affects OS4Depot as well as IRC server.

irc.amigans.net, irc.orgin.biz and se2.amigaworld.net is actually the same server. Or that's the idea anyway. I don't have access to the amigaworld dns settings so they may be incorrectly configured.

@Raziel

Yeah this obsession about sticking with PPC is just ridiculous. It won't get this anywhere else than to stupidly expensive and quirky hardware. This was plain obvious 20 years ago and it's hilariously obvious now.

x86 or ARM would be the obvious choice. I mean, imagine running AmigaOS4 on a Raspberry PI and the exposure that could give.

If it's so damn important to keep developing hardware in the community then I'm sure there would be lots of business cases you can go for in the arm space, whereas there's practically none in the ppc sphere.

No I don't give a shit if that breaks all existing OS4 software. Either you go somewhere or you go nowhere.
