Re: Next Update - Update

@broadblues

I have a MicroA1. I usually run my system with compositing disabled to conserve Video RAM.

Verified ... New version of AWeb works fine with composting enabled and I can drag the main window to the bottom of the screen and release mouse button with no strange effects.

Thanks,

@broadblues

I have discovered some strange interactions between my system and the 2009 version of AWeb. I don't know if this is a prefs issue or if I am missing something the program needs. This is not related in any way to TuneNet. I am running AWeb by itself.

AWeb seems to function normally as long as I just browse the internet. But strange things happen if I move the main AWeb window with my mouse. If I move it down towards the bottom of the screen and release the mouse button, I get a light grey or white Workbench screen. One time I got a light show where the screen was changing colours (entire screen at a time). Don't remember the sequence but it was yellow and it was green. While this is happening, the mouse pinter is a white square shaped blob.

I have since gone back to my original AWeb version and I can move the main window around with no other strange effects.

@broadblues

Thanks very much.

I have downloaded aweb_3509_os41_20090529.lha and unarchived into a separate drawer from my original AWeb. Preliminary testing shows it seems to work fine so far by itself and with TuneNet V0.86.66. I have some tweeking to do to get my toolbar and hotlist setup.

Just a moment ago, I suddenly encountered a white Workbench screen with icons. Already open drawers had no top border (whatever it is called) or gadgets. Not sure how I got this ... I checked the "about" menu item and moved a window down so I could type the info into a post.

Need to experiment more. Hopefully it is not battery time again.

@sundown

With TuneNet V0.86.64 ...

It doesn't matter if I use "Unit 0 HiFi 16 bit stereo++" or "CMI8738:HiFi 16 bit stereo++"". AWeb still locks up my machine. I got into my 3rd webpage last time.

On the otherhand, TuneNet V0.86.52 and AWeb seem to play nicely together.

I'm listening to Absolutely Smooth Jazz - SKY.FM - right now while I type this post with AWeb.

I have AWeb APL Lite 3.5.09 (May 28 2007) OS4.0 PPC. I will check and see if a newer version works better with TuneNet V0.86.64.

@broadblues

AWeb APL Lite 3.5.09 (May 28 2007) OS4.0 PPC

MicroA1 with IBM PPC 750GX CPU and 256 MB RAM
using standard onboard components, no cards in PCI slot
PS2 keyboard,
Logitech Optical USB/PS2 compatible mouse connected via green USB/PS2 adapter to PS2 mouse port on MicroA1

AmigaOne version of AmigaOS 4.1 with all OS4.1 QuickFixes from Hyperion Website

A little bit of background ...
For whatever reason, TuneNet and AWeb have never played nicely together on my machine, even when I was running OS4.0. If I was listening to an internet radio station with TuneNet and launched AWeb, my system would croak shortly afterwards. Music stops, network goes down, USB down, mouse freezes, reset required. If a GR was generated it always pointed to AWeb. Aweb worked just fine by itself. AmigaAMP worked just fine with AWeb. TuneNet worked just fine by itself. TuneNet worked just fine with IBrowse.

This is one reason why I waited so long after installing AmigaOS 4.1 to actually try TuneNet again. I wanted to make sure my other stuff was working and stable first.

I installed V86.54 when it became available, and subsequently tried V86.60 and V86.64. If I do not use AWeb, V86.64 does not give me any trouble at all.

Yesterday, out of curiousity, I installed TuneNet V0.86.52 and it works just fine by itself and with AWeb. I was very surprised because this is the first time that these two programs have worked together on my machine.

Edit --- I was typing while you replied to sundown.

My info follows below ...

Audio Preferences for TuneNet:
Audio Mode: AHI Audio 0
CMI8738:HiFi 16 bit stereo++

Currently using TuneNet V0.86.52 and it seems to work just fine with AWeb.

TuneNet V0.86.64 works just fine by itself or with OWB 3.15 or with NetSurf 2.1.

But my machine freezes up solid if I am using TuneNet V0.86.64 to listen to internet radio and then launch AWeb to surf the net while I am listening to the radio. Sometimes it appears to be the station, sometimes my system freezes immediately.

@bean

I appreciate the work you and others like kas1e are doing with TuneNet.

I still get occasional freezes with TuneNet V86.64. For me, most freezes happen if I am playing internet radio and try to use AWebPPC. Seems to work fine with OWB 3.15 and NetSurf.

Just out of curiosity, I downloaded V86.52 from OS4Depot and no freezes so far with it. I have even launched and used AWebPPC many times while playing internet radio with TuneNet and no freezes or GrimReapers at all yet.

If I recall correctly, this is the first time I have used TuneNet V86.52 since I installed AmigaOS 4.1 in September 2008. I'm just using the MP3 stuff right now.

Re: USB Printer on OS4?

This was a very interesting discussion. I learned alot. Now I have my MicroA1 partially working with my USB Epson Stylus CX4800 printer.

By partially working, I mean I can initialize the printer, print to it ok from NotePad, print text files to it ok from Multiview, print text to it from Final Writer 97.

Final Writer 97:
Printing in Graphic (Draft) mode seems to work fine ... text only.
Printing in Graphic (Final) mode ... the printer spits out blank pages
Printing to Postscipt printer ... hangs. Suspect this is not an option.

AmiPDF ... Got absolutely nowhere with printing. More study required.

Thanks to all.

@bean

I still get the occasional freeze with TuneNet V0.86.60 - 1st July 09, even when it is the first and only program launched from my Workbench.

Freezes only happen with internet radio. Does not seem to be related to any particular internet radio station which I pick from the list.

SMOOTHJAZZ.COM seems to work the best for me.

I have been assuming that TuneNet V0.86.60 is a standalone program.

Now I have a few questions ...

Does TuneNet V0.86.60 require anything from any other previous version?

When I launch TuneNet, should I wait for the SCAN NOW button to become active, or is it ok to pick from the list as soon as the stations appear (as I have been doing)?

---
redfox

BTW, I have already come to the conclusion that TuneNet and AWebPPC do not like each other on my machine. I had the same issue with previous versions so this is no big problem for me.

@bean

I sent two PMs. Sorry, forgot to attach debug.log to first one, so it should be on the 2nd PM. This is a system freeze with TuneNet playing an internet radio station and system freezes shortly after starting AWebPPC. Got an AWeb window this time but system froze shortly afterwards.

If I see another system freeze with only TuneNet running, I will capture that as well.

---
redfox

Update ...
I also got a system freeze using IBrowse instead of AWebPPC.

Update ...
Upon further testing, it seems that I may have been picking an internet radio station that takes a long time to lock on station. I was using the same one each time. So, I picked another station further down the list and it seems to work just fine. I can listen to music and browse the internet at the same time with AWebPPC or IBrowse or OWB 3.15 or NetSurf.

@bean

-- snip --

Update ...

As per my first post, everything seemed to be going fine for the first hour after I installed TuneNet 86.54.

However, I have encountered several system freezes since that time. At first I thought it was TuneNet and AWebPPC interacting with each other. I found that my system would sometimes freeze up solid if I launched TuneNet, selected internet radio, picked a radio station and then launched AWebPPC after the music started. I would not get the AWebPPC splash window or the AWebPPC main window. Instead, the music would stop and my system would freeze if I moved the mouse.

Then, after a few more freeze-ups, it suddenly worked fine again.

I powered off my machine, ate supper, powered up again, launched TuneNet and the system froze up solid. I think it might have occurred while scanning radio stations. No AWebPPC this time.

Then I noticed that my son was using his PS3 to play an online game and the laptop to lookup stuff on the internet while he was waiting for some action. The PS3, laptop and my MicroA1 all share the same router and ADSL connection to the internet. I suspect some kind of timing issue or response time out issue when all three are in use. Not sure if he was online before supper.

Enough troubleshooting for tonight.

@bean

I installed TuneNet V0.86.54 - June 09 about an hour ago. Working very well with my system. Using the basic GUI and MP3 for now.

It has been awhile since I last used TuneNet, because I was having network issues if I ran TuneNet to listen to internet radio while I was using AWeb to surf the internet. Eventually, AWeb would GR and the network connection would drop.

This latest version works fine with AWeb and OWB 3.15.

Thanks very much.

Update ...

This evening I am seeing the "submit" button problem over at amigaworld as well, when I attempt to reply to a post in a forum thread. When I click on "Submit", my reply is actually submitted but I am not returned to the forum. I have to click "Cancel" to return to see my reply in the forum thread.

So the submit issue is more widespread than I thought.
