Re: Hyperion Games and OS4 Final?

Not too shy to talk

@Rogue

I had a few problems with Amiga Input and USB under pre-release 4.

Sometimes the USB would drop out during a game, Bubble Heroes would switch back to workbench with a USB related error message and in Wipeout 2097 the joypad would stop working. I have too identical joypads, and found that Amiga Input couldn't seem to handle them both together. I have not been able to test it with OS4 final, due to a hardware failure at the beginning of december.

I do wonder if some of the problems may be due to the A1 hardware. I guess you should find out soon enough.

@nubechecorre

I'm sure that a few years ago Hyperion said they would make OS4 versions of their older titles available for an extra charge to existing owners.
I wonder how many people would need to pay x ?/?/$ to make an OS4 executable for Heretic 2 viable.
Maybe they could do a pre-order like Titan have with Papyrus Office.

@Rogue

How come you are still considering a native version of Shogo when you recently ruled out Heretic 2 as being too old.

Out of curiosty, which games will we see in the future. Wasn't Sin completed for WarpOS years ago and what are we likely to see come out of the Inca Gold deal.
Is work going on with the "inspiring" secret title.
Am I right in thinking that the Worms Armageddon licence is not valid for OS4, does that mean Hyperion lost money on that one.

I look forward to seeing/playing what you do next.

NO NO NO!

My A1 broke recently and I've been forced to use Windows, the boot jingle sent me mad until I switched it off.

Re: We need NEW Games

@Saimo

I think ther could/should still be a market for 2D games. When Quake came along we were still playing 2D games running at 320x240 with a max of 256 (more likely 16 or 32) colours. We now have much higher resolutions and 24/32 bit colour.

2D is just another medium and I think it has been sadly neglected by commercial developers for the past 10 years. The retro scene proves that 2D stuff is just as fun now as it was then.

I think the Amiga could do well by having a good balance of both modern 2D and 3D games.

Can a license be sold to another company without the agreement from Amiga Inc.?

It's not so much whether the licence can be transferred, but whether that licence would be valid for any hardware other than Mai Teron derived hardware.

@MiKE2006

The question asked if Amiga was in discussions with any companies about licensing for OS4 capable hardware. Bill Mcewen mentioned that they were currently in talks with 3 companies and Troika was not one of them.

I would take that to mean that Amiga Inc and Troika were not in talks about hardware at that time.
It was later mentioned at Amiwest that a UDtech HMC board (Panda) had been sent to Hyperion. I would think that Troika are at least in talks with Amiga for this to happen.

A note about Panda
Troika said on amigaworld that they used Panda as the overall name for that project.

Picasso 96 is currently used in OS4 and as far as I know it still belongs to the original P96 team, who I presume are part of the OS4 team.

@Mothman

Accelerators slide on a lot easier without the standard A1200 casing. I remember having to remove parts of inside of the cover in order to refit it with the first 030 which I think was probably a Viper 1230 MK2.

My Blizzard 1260 suffers slightly from the ZX80 ram pack wobbles in my A1200 Tower. If it isn't titled towards the rear side of the motherboard I get a black screen like you describe.

Perhaps the trapdoor cover is pushing the card upwards slightly or did you leave it off anyway. If there seems to be any play in the card try make sure it is angled down slithtly.

You can hack an Amiga power plug onto a cheap PC PSU too.
