@JosDuchIt There are two kinds of SSDs you can buy. The first one I mentioned above has connectors for SATA data and power, ie., exactly the same as a regular hard drive. They are usually 2.5" form factor. Because the interface is identical, they can be used on any Amiga with a SATA interface. There's another kind of SSD you can buy. It plugs directly into the PCIE slot, ie, it doesn't use a regular SATA interface and power. It's much smaller, a "card" form factor. The first kind is a drop-in replacement for a regular Hard Drive, so you can use it with any Amiga with a SATA interface. The second kind uses a different interface, which I don't believe is compatible with Amiga. Here's the wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid-st ... tandard_card_form_factors

It occured to me after replying that I assumed you were talking about SSD drives.
You can get an SSD that plugs into a PCIE slot, but AFAIK there's no drivers for these in OS4.

When I installed AmiCynix on my X5000 last year, I had alot of problems extracting the archives.
I switched from extracting to a NGF partition to an SFS partition and it worked OK.

@JosDuchIt
I haven't replaced a drive, but when I built my X5000, I installed an SSD.
It's the same as installing any other HDD. Plug the SATA and power cables in. Simple as that. The form factor is smaller, so you might need a 3.5" --> 2.5" bay adapter, but that should be easier to source.
Just be sure NEVER to do a full format of an SSD, always quick format.
As for re-installing software, I'd reformat a Flash Drive with an Amiga filesystem (e.g., SFS2), copy all my Amiga data to it; swap the drive out; boot off the OS 4.1 CD; prep the new drive and copy the data back from the flash drive.

Good to hear and know that NGFS has some robust tools!
Can I ask if this was an SSD?

Yes, it's working fine. I haven't done much experimenting with it, but I backed up a partition to my NAS last night no problems.
He's even managed to fix a very weird little bug which I was having with 1.173 (which he shared with me back in August).
Emotion doesn't supporting loading a file by command line. I repurposed an arexx script that someone wrote for ArtEffect, which similarly can't open a file by command line. I call it from Filer. When I use it on my WD MyCloud, it would work once, and then the second time would lock the system out, although the mouse would still move.
This works in 2.1 now.

Which network adapter are you using? It could also be my NAS that is causing the problem (Western Digital MyCloud).

@Raziel Installed it on my X5000, but unfortunately I just get a Grim Reaper. I'll have to send Olaf a crash log.

Booting off CD doesn't work. It gets to the splash screen and stops. If I unplug my HDD, booting off CD works. My guess is that that boot priority of the HDD boot partition is too high.

Yes, user-startup is being run last, iPrefs is near the top, so the assign doesn't exist at that time.
Thanks, I will try to boot without user-startup tonight.

@broadblues
yeah... just don't do what I've done... ...put the assign in user-startup... ...set GUI preferences to look at Sketchblock:... ...now...
...my machine won't boot.
iPrefs is looking for a volume that doesn't exist yet because Sketchblock: isn't assigned at that point.
So iPrefs hangs on boot, and there's no way to boot into OS4 from there. Even if I click on Assign, Mount, or Cancel, it just dumps to a screen but no Workbench.
...and my emergency disks don't boot either. I suspect that my Workbench partition has a boot priority of 0, so uboot can boot off them, but then they switch to my internal drive as soon as kicklayout loads. (and the os4_bootdevice that Tony recently revealed doesn't work because of the priority).
Sigh.
And hyperion is down so I can't ask for help there.
:(
Tried a bunch of things last night, but only succeeded in making my emergency flash drive unbootable.
Tonight I'll try attaching my internal drive to the 3112 sata, and hopefully boot off CD. But I have a nasty feeling I'll get the saem result: as soon as kicklayout loads
Does anyone know if its possible to boot OS4 without startup-sequence?

When I try to use the gui.prefs, I get a requestor asking for Programming: .
I think there is an absolute file path in there that it can'd find on my system.

This looks like a great, professional package. Thanks Andy for all your hard work!
I'll check it out this weekend. I'm a terrible artist, but I often do a bit of image manipulation in ArtEffect; it will be great to have modern PPC native software to work with.
Does it use the full amount of memory from the GFX card, as per the updated drivers? Apologies if you answer this in the narration, I'm watching the video at work with the sound off.

I believe it's currently not possible with p5020sata.device . I think other people have had success by adding a sata card and connecting a drive to that, although I don't think you'll be able to boot from the drive.
There is probably more info on the Hyperion board.

Hmm, I get
File "python:scripts/CreateDrawer.py", line 2
SyntaxError: Non-ASCII character '\xa0' in file python:scripts/CreateDrawer.py on line 2, but no encoding declared; see http://www.python.org/peps/pep-0263.html for details
So I guess there's still a copy paste problem.

Thank you for the replies. This is what I've landed on.
/* Create Drawer V2*/
Parse Arg Args
IF Left(Args,1)='"' THEN Parse Var Args '"'File'" 'Drawer
ELSE Parse Var Args File' 'Drawer
Drawer=Strip(Drawer,,'"')
chars = length(File)
newdir = left(File,chars-4)
newdir2 = space(newdir,1,'_')
address command
cd Drawer
makedir newdir2
Exit
Is also replaces the spaces with underscores. @xenic I've thought about expanding it so it checks that it's an archive, checks whether or not is has an existing directory, and even launching unarc to finish the job. I don't know C though.

Help with Arexx Script

Hi everyone, I was hoping someone could give me some tips with an arexx script I'm working on. I often receive or download archives that have files inside them that aren't in a directory. I have to create an archive to file the contents, so I wanted to write an arexx script that takes the archive name, snips off the last 4 characters (the suffix) and creates a folder with that name.
/* Create Folder*/
parse arg file drawer
address command
chars = length(file)
newdir = left(file,chars-4)
cd drawer
makedir newdir
I'm calling it from Filer with rx CreateDrawer.rexx {ou} {d} , where {ou} is the selected archive and {d} is the current dir. The script works fine, however it gets broken by empty spaces in the filename. It looks like when it reaches a space in the filename, it stops reading, so "Customer images Sept 2019.zip" gets parsed as simply "Customer". Because it snips off the last 4 characters, if there's less than 4 characters in front of a space, the result is an error. Does anyone know a way around this?
