Re: Status of PageStream?
Amigans Defender
Amigans Defender

@ajs

I have 5.0.3.3 as OS4final doesn't seem to have helped much. The main thing that stops me using it in preference to the old 68k v4, is the page window doesn't update properly when you scroll.

I very rarely use it anyway, I only bought it to support Pagestream on OS4.

I would like to see a finished working version though.

Hopefully it will all work out for Deron.

Holding Ctrl down on a USB keyboard on startup doesn't "boot with no start-up sequence" as it is supposed to. Looks like the input isn't being read from USB at that stage.

@salass00

Can't try that here - the mouse is the only option. Keyboard is a USB kind with no scroll lock key.

Should work on PS/2, maybe they have changed the combo?

Contrary to what the featurelist states, you can't get into the Early Startup menu with a USB mouse (or at least, I can't get it to work)

@benny
Copy powerpc.library (and maybe warp3dppc.library) across from your Update 4 install.

Have you got the priority thingy working as well?

1. The Radeon tooltypes are different on the install CD than on the installed version of OS4. The CD has Interrupt set to NO, on the install Interrupt is set to YES. My system won't boot with it set to YES, took me a while to figure out the problem here.

2. Dragging a drawer icon which is an icon only (ie. no actual drawer) into the Icon Information window does not work.

3. USB Inspector has numbers instead of class names on the first tab

4. The titlebar - wouldn't it make more sense to default it to show Video RAM instead of Chip RAM on systems with no Chip RAM?

5. The SVG datatype descriptor is conflicting with the HTML one again - guess something has changed with Datatypes priority ordering.

Re: TuneNet Issues and Updates

@bean

I can't reproduce it very consistently, but if you double-click on an item in the playlist to play it, and then click on a different item while it is being pre-loaded, TuneNet tends to update the wrong row, or put the wrong info in the row, or play the wrong song.

If I had to guess, I would say that somewhere along the line you are reading the current line twice rather than storing it on the first read, or I'm double-clicking on something and then clicking somewhere else before TuneNet has read which line I double-clicked on - this could be a problem with listbrowser.gadget.

@outcast

Yes, I think it was the same as mine

@GrumpyOldMan

The USB card readers sort of work like a hub as well, so you can leave them plugged in the USB port of an unfixed A1, and hot-swap cards with no problems.

No additional software required at all. I bought the cheapest one ebuyer had (?1.20 or something) and it works fine with my SD card.

Re: Datatypes plugin

@salass00

Hmm, it was the AutoDocs that said it was ignored - both on NewDTObject() and ObtainDataType(). If this is not the case then the AutoDocs are wrong! I'll give it a try, thanks.

I think your Sun AU datatype (port?) identifies on the name only, so that will be a good test.

Aminet uploads top 1992!

The Aminet uploads for this year are now above the level they were at 14 years ago.

Internet access was not quite so widespread back then, with most users' non-commercial software needs being handled by PD libraries. However, it is still a remarkable increase on the three previous years, and approaching 2002 - there are still a couple of weeks left to overtake it!

Datatypes plugin
Amigans Defender
Amigans Defender

I've quickly knocked up a Datatypes player for TuneNet - for those arkward files that you have datatypes for, but no TuneNet plug-in!

It will appear on Aminet shortly for testing purposes. Don't expect too much from it yet - it's mono only and often files play at the wrong speed.

I have some questions (the first couple are for Bean probably):

Can I set the priority of the plug-in? At the moment it is taking precedence over the AIFF plug-in, and I really want this to be a "last resort" plug-in for when TuneNet doesn't have a proper one for a certain file. There needs to be some sort of priority setting so I can whack it down to -127 or something.

Can I set the buffer to 8-bit? It appears to be stuck on 16-bit only. Failing that, is there an easy way to convert from 8-bit to 16-bit data. I'm just typecasting the data so I'm surprised it is working at all. This might be where some of the speed problems are coming from, maybe (although it may be the datatypes not reporting the frequency correctly, or something else I've done wrong)

How do I get the data out of a streaming datatype? Is it possible?

Why I can't I give ObtainDataType() a name to try matching against if I specify DTST_MEMORY? This is required for descriptors that need a filename match, you can't do it unless you read from a file (and the clipboard is not a problem as this should be in IFF format anyway)

Oh, and finally, how do I stop TuneNet from remembering my playlist all the sodding time? I'm tempted to revert to the old version to get rid of this new "feature".

Other than that, nice work

Chris
