So, exciting new features eh? Here are my guesses:

- Virtual memory pager
- True graphical transparency
- DVI support for Radeon gfx cards, and maybe tv out too?
- New graphics system which allows for faster 3d

Well, I prefer that you go system friendly with reaction.... MUI seems to add ALOT of overhead to AOS in general.

Do even know what "system friendly" means?

I've never noticed my MUI apps running slower than my Reaction apps, except for IBrowse because its 68k and complex.

MUI is better than Reaction for built in configurability. You simply open the prefs window (one line of code to do this), and then MUI handles everything else transparently. Under Reaction you have to have code for everything, including iconifying, snapshotting (as another said already), configuring fonts, etc.

Reaction currently looks better than MUI 3.9 (under OS4) because only the Classic OS4 version of MUI has vertical gradients for its gadgets right now.

P.S. Reaction and MUI are both "system friendly" *rolls eyes* and PPC native on OS4.

The MESA port? Rogue will have to answer that, as I'm only involved in MiniGL. AFAIK, he isn't giving a projected release date at this point. Having said that, don't expect it to be released for at least half a year, if not longer.

Yes, and also the other part that needs updating is the graphics subsystem, so that 3D performance isnt choked anymore. You know that already of course, but DiscreetFX might not. Maybe you could elaborate a bit more though, as my forte is more with inserting strings into nlist objects, if you know what I mean.

Of course he'll bother! If he waits for OS4 he might have a machine doing nothing for either months, or maybe forever! (depending on what the situation is internally.. but who knows whats going on!).
EDIT: the above is speculation, if that wasn't clear already. :)

We took a punt on our machines, but lets actually use it in the meantime instead of waiting around.

Re: Quake 3 HELP

Not too shy to talk

How to get Quake 3 running:

1. Buy Quake 3 Arena
2. Install it on a PC
3. Download Point Release 1.32 patch for Quake 3, install it in the dir you installed Quake3 in. Note: this patch should be around 27mb in size.
4. Copy the whole installed+patched Quake3 dir to your A1
5. Extract the quake3.lha os4 archive to the Quake3 directory. It should be in the root level of the Quake install (NOT in the baseq3/ subdirectory)
6. Edit "q3" and change the path text to where you've copied Quake3 to on your hard drive

All done! to launch quake3, execute the "q3" script.

@thread

News from Pianeta Amiga:
[afxgroup] and i have also compiled OWB
[afxgroup] the SDL browser
[afxgroup] but all is black.. even if the program is running and events catched..
[afxgroup] i have joined the OWB mailing list and all developers are really friendly
[afxgroup] so it is possible we can have it in a few...

http://www.sand-labs.org/owb/ -- this is the browser that afxgroup is porting. Its based on WebKit, the same technology that Sputnik is being ported from, but the abstraction work is mostly already done I think.

"WebKit is an open source web browser engine. WebKit is also the name of the Mac OS X system framework version of the engine that's used by Safari, Dashboard, Mail, and many other OS X applications. WebKit's HTML and JavaScript code began as a branch of the KHTML and KJS libraries from KDE. This website is also the home of S60's S60 WebKit development."

Re: getting rid of the rust

@Jack

Well, it depends on the app. Some apps can share the audio, and some cant. Tunenet wants to keep it locked unless you install certain AHI files and configure it to share... thats one reason why everyones waiting for the new Tunenet. :) My music app SimplePlay uses a programming linker lib called SDL_Mixer for its replaying routines, and it shares the audio, whereas XMAME uses SDL too but DOESNT share the audio.. its a bit strange! I think HDREC wants to lockup the audio too, I'm not sure.

Just to be safe, try going into AHI and setting Unit 0 to have more channels. I have it set to 32, I dont know if this is a bad value. :)

@nubechecorre

I dont have this game sorry, but when you have problems with frame rates in 3d games, you should try lowering the screen resolution and/or graphics quality/detail level step by step, testing each time, until its playable.

I apologise if you've tried this already.

I had Quake 3 on my A1, and I did find a screen resolution and detail level that it was playable under. Unfortunately I had stability issues with it after a short while. I dont know whether its the game, or my A1. Maybe both. :)

MUI programs function fine on an unregistered MUI system. The only thing a keyfile does is it lets you customise the appearance heavily.

Not too shy to talk

@Severin

If ANYONE else is experiencing these problems, please let me know NOW! So far these two reports are from OS4 betatesters... I havent heard about crashing with OS3 MOS or other OS4 users yet.

EDIT: Problem solved. The default value doesnt work for OS4 properly. Change your wookiechat charsets from ISO-8859-1 to ISO-8859-15 or US-ASCII.

EDIT2: Problem is REALLY solved now. See the details in the changelog, and download beta 10!

BETA 10
- When I added charset support, I forgot to mention that the servers.txt
layout has changed, and you now need to re-enter any passwords into Wookie
that you had before. (Just click on "Edit Server" to do this).
When connecting to a server before you have edited the password details to
comply with the new format , Wookie thought the password was the charset
you wanted. I've added better error checking to that portion of code now.
- Added two more strings to the locale
- Changed the smiley popup window to 10 columns.. to make it wider to help
make the window titlebar look nicer when its full of gadgets.

Latest WookieChat: v2.7 beta 10 - 2007-09-10 - http://wookiechat.amigarevolution.com/wookiechat/beta/ for AROS/MOS/OS3/OS4
