yup. global history checks out fine. the entries and dates are as expected. i should also point out that none of my entries in my hotlist ever appear in the 'hotlist' menu, either. don't know if that's expected or something related or ....

NetSurf: URL auto-completion based on session history only?

Chris,
Using the current version of NetSurf (v2.9) I notice that there is no autocompletion based on history beyond the immediate session history. In other words if I type 'amigaworld.net' into the URL bar, then for the remainder of my session, typing the letter 'a' allows me to autocomplete the URL. But if I quit the application and restart, there is no more history, and therefore, no more autocompletion. I have to type the full URL again.
I should point out that history is 'kept' 28 days according to the preferences, but doesn't seem to be. Even URLs in my hotlist don't autocomplete, just those I manually type in, and only for that one session.
Am I doing something wrong here, or is history saving from session to session not fully supported?

@ChrisH / @ssolie Quote: IMHO, I think it'd be better to only announce stuff that is complete enough that you know there are no (more) major problems to overcome.
Initially that might not make for very exciting anouncements, but after a while it would become a pleasant surprise to see stuff finished & available not too long (say 6 months) after it was originally announced, and people can't be disappointed when something takes a lot longer than *they* expected/hoped. or release a roadmap with planned features and which releases they are scheduled for, but dates are probably a bad idea given the dynamics of our community. the amiga platform has a bright future and great folks working on it, but some information will only be used as ammunition by those who wish to see the platform fail. at least that's how i see it. -- eliyahu

@CommodoreRock Quote: Can't speak for everyone, but I can definitely say that I'm waiting for the netbook to come out before I jump in. I was never an Amiga user even though I am old enough to have been. Even though I had a C64 back in the 80s, I never graduated to an Amiga. I became interested in Amiga OS recently because I decided to do a search on it out of curiosity to see if Amiga still existed in some capacity. I was pleasantly surprised that it does! While I considered briefly purchasing an A1 X500, I have no space for a desktop computer, and also spending US $1000 on one is outside my budget. However a $300-$500 portable would definitely be my entry into the community. i also joined the amiga community without having ever owned -- or indeed used -- an amiga from the commodore days. but in 2010 i took the plunge and bought a SAM440ep-flex and have never looked back. if the issue is form factor, i.e., you are only interested in a portable system, then that's one thing. but if the issue is price, then the good news is that you don't need to spend $1000USD on a new system. for example acube systems is still offering brand-new SAM440ep-flex boards for as little as $350USD. of course you'd still need to purchase the OS license, but you could easily build a nice little box for under $600. if you're willing to purchase used systems -- my SAM was and i had no issues -- i highly recommend watching the sales over at amibay or the amigaworld classifieds. in any case i hope some of the available options are compelling enough to pique your interest. remember there are other used boards such as the pegasos2 and amigaone XE that go on offer every now and then that can be great buys. if you find something ask about the pros and cons and folks around here can help you. good luck! -- eliyahu

chris,
this is an odd one, but for some reason wet 6.3 under AOS4.1u5 swaps AM and PM in the times provided by my local reporting station. in my case this is the KOXC site.
for example it reports that the sun rises at 3:21PM and sets at 6AM. this means that the night icons show during the day and the day icons show during the night.
has anyone else seen this?

thanks a ton for helping get this list of devices over on intuitionbase! we're doing google searches for each entry to try and find a web page for each product at its manufacturer, etc., to make the entries even more helpful.
FYI -- we're not adding cell phones or USB pen drives to the database at this time.

i realize this is a rather old thread to resurrect, but i've recently been using drawstudio on both my SAM and my peg2 running OS4.1u5. performance is acceptable, but the biggest issue is the 'live' coordinates in the main window which seems to slow intuition down mightily.
also: are there any tricks to avoid redraw artifacts when moving objects?

folks, recently any ADFs i attempt to mount using DiskImageGUI mount OK, but appear as uninitialized volumes. i've reinstalled the latest version of diskimage.device from OS4depot; i've deleted the diskimage XML files in ENVARC; i've even tried mounting with the command-line tools. no matter what i do, the ADFs will mount, but workbench thinks they're blank. this includes ADFs that mounted just fine previously and ones recently downloaded. any ideas? -- eliyahu

Guys, While I was looking into whether or not I can make it to Amiwest this year, I noticed there are a ton of clips of shows past on Youtube -- all of which one can view on their Amiga NG system. I thought I'd post the ones I'd found, and if you have any others you'd like to add to the list, please reply with links. I saw this program running on an X1000 just over a week ago, so I know it is possible! (My own system is a sam-flex with 1 GB ram) hmmm.... never hit that error. i use arteffect quite often, actually. if you are having difficulty starting the program, for whatever reason, you might try deleting the settings directory. it should be PROGDIR:settings in nearly every case. the built-in VMEM scheme -- which is akin to photoshop's own scratch space -- cannot really be turned off, per se, but you can prevent it being used. the readme in the arteffect drawer should help you there. if you haven't used arteffect before on your SAM, one tip: create a public screen for arteffect once you get it up and running and disable compositing on that screen. you'll get odd redraw artifacts otherwise. good luck, and let us know how you get on! -- eliyahu

@Tajmaster yeah, it's brutally slow on my SAM as well. the friedens did mention it would be poky -- but, yeah, i wouldn't call it usable on our SAMs. on the plus side progress has been made, and it does seem much more complete than the previous release. i reckon us poor-ol' SAM folk will need to wait for future releases before we can hop on the timberwolf train. by the way, at least on my SAM, the entire system seems to slow to a crawl when timberwolf is running. i'm not running out of memory or forcing active swapping, so i wonder if there is some while loop spinning somewhere eating up all of the available CPU cycles. -- eliyahu

flash is not dead, certainly not in the streaming video category because of DRM requirements from content producers. it may be a declining technology, but you could say that about windows, although i hardly think anyone would consider that platform dead just yet.
as for getting it on our platform, sadly, the answer is a 'no.' a few years back sun had to fork over huge quantities of cash for adobe to continue supporting flash for solaris -- at the time this was important since sun wanted to push solaris further into the desktop via both the opensolaris initiative, but more importantly their VDI product suite. that's the only thing that kept adobe interested.
having flash on my SAM would be terrific, although i suspect performance would be poor. :(
