Yeh Speccys were not really big here in USA but there is a new Spectrum coming out soon, well it was a Kickstarter that has been delayed but they appear to be in their final stretches, and it really caught my eye.

Kind of like the AmigaOne X1K when A-Eon introduced that. Sparked my interest in Amiga at the time. This Speccy Next did the same so I been exploring them this year.

Even made my 1st game ever and it was for the Spectrum. Hah!

Thanks for watching my video. Sub to my YouTube channel if you can. There will be many more videos from me on several platforms for sure.

Although I have enhancer 1.4 and enjoy some aspects of it (Candi), I never did get into using X Dock. Maybe if I saw some videos of XDock in action it could entice me as of the benefits of using it over Amidock.

Anyone have any videos on YouTube that shows XDock in action?

@kas1e

So far it seems to be fine. I could easily lock things up right away launching AmigaAmp or TuneNet, launching Wookie, launching Odyssey, then moving the music player window elsewhere to the screen. Instant lock up.

Now with AmIRC being used instead of Wookie, no more issues.

So far it seems Wookie has been my issue.

Sure if Candi is an issue, it should come back soon or show other issues. Hopefully not.

May have answered my own question. Appears to be Wookie that is the culprit for my issue. Was the common app that I always ran.

Testing going well. Switching between AmigaAmp and TuneNet... move all around with Odyssey, AmIRC running. So, if it keeps like this, could be Wookie will finally be over for me. Have used it for years. Only change I can think of is on-board ethernet versus NIC. Had been on NIC until about 2 months ago when the on-board ethernet became available. Switched to on-board and things did get unsettled but got worse. Maybe coincidence. Right now appears Wookie is it and why I would lock up when using these apps in question.

Unstable X5000

I am guessing Enhancer 1.4 and its many add-ons could be a culprit but can't say for sure.

I have a fairly fresh Amiga OS 4.1FE install on my X5K and did all the Enhancer 1.4 on top of it. Guessing quite a few Amigans do the same since the purchase of the X5K from some dealers comes witg Enhancer. I normally have Candi running.

I seem to get frequent lock-ups when I do the following...

Turn on X5K... launch Wookie or AmIRC, launch AmigaAmp 3.23, and as music starts I grab AmigaAmp window to reposition on my screen, and as I move the app the system freezes. Music still plays but I lose control of doing anything else.... no cursor, nothing. Only a hard reboot takes care of it.

I can get the same thing to happen in TuneNet 2.9 also.

Most the time I use only a few apps after turning on my X. Wookie, Odyssey, and music from either AmigaAmp or TuneNet.

Anyone else experience this kind of issue?

I may do a new install and NOT install Enhancer and see if I can get the same music related crash but before I do so, figured it would not hurt to ask here.

Tony W on Hyperion Forums answered my question.

setenv os4_bootdevice auto
saveenv

Did the trick.

Now the 1 and 2 work and I can boot from either of my drives.

I will add one more little tidbit in hopes someone here knows a better way...

But with the help of my buddy Sundown reminding me how to get into Early Boot screen where we have HDD options to tinker with (mouse buttons held down at the OS 4.1 splash screen), I was able to finally select the OS from my older HDD and it did boot to it... although 1st attempt all was 640x480 or something.

So I did a 2nd time and this time during boot at uBoot Selector I did select the older OS from the HDD and once that booted up and at the OS 4.1 screen I got into early boot window and selected the older drive to boot from.... the res was right but my docks were all over the place. LOL.

So I was able to get booted to my old OS on the older drive but sloppily.

There must be a better way.

Maybe newer uBoot Selector that when I click 1 or 2 it actually boots from said drive. :D

Some update....

I can see for 2 years now I had no SATA cable connected to SATA0. My main HDD has been on SATA 1 port. Not sure if that makes a difference.

So the SSD was connected to SATA0 when I installed the new OS.

I did just switch and made the 2 year old HDD drive connected to SATA0 port and the new SSD SATA1 but same thing... uBoot selector only boots to new SSD if both drives connected even when I select the old one in uBoot selector screen.

I may try to install the new OS again on the SSD while it is connected to SATA1 but before I waste time and spin my wheels... maybe someone knows why this may not be working for me.

Thanks

Booting off two Internal HDDs in X5K
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Having issues getting uBoot selector at boot time to boot to each OS on two different drives.

Have owned my X5K for 2 years. Have a nice running Amiga OS 4.1 FE (Pre) for X5000 as shipped with my X5K from Amiga On The Lake.

Installed a 2nd drive, a 120GB SSD, so I can install a separate bootable Amiga OS 4.1FE that I can tinker on.

Want to use uBoot selector at boot to select 1 or 2 on keyboard so I can boot to each OS as I please. It is not working right for me.

I have no internal CD/DVD so each drive connects direct to SATA connections on motherboard. Therefore only 2 SATA devices are connected.

I booted from a USB Stick Amiga OS installer I had made and installed the OS on the new SSD.

My original HDD is set at boot priority 0. I set the new SSD to boot priority 3.

Install of the OS goes fine and it boots great from the new SSD OS fine. But no matter what I select at boot time, the X5K will only boot the new OS off the SSD. I select the 1 but it seems to still boot from SSD. Makes no sense.

My uBoot is the same that came installed 2 years ago other than the few lines added to get boot working for mass media (USB) devices. The rest is as it came in 2016 or whatever.

Any reason I should not be able to boot from new or old HDD selecting 1 or 2 at the uBoot selection time?

Re: Does aTunes supposed to grab Album Cover Art?

@RIBDEVIL

Thanks, that worked.... after adding a couple cover arts to two albums, I quit the aTunes and relaunched it...

Now I get an error and all the songs are missing. hmmm.

Error is SQL error: database disk image is malformed during load database.

Any recovery from that or do I need to start from scratch?

TJ

** Update... I just went ahead and trashed the .db and made a new one.

Does aTunes supposed to grab Album Cover Art?
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Just purchased zTools and tinkering with aTunes.

I don't have tons of ripped music yet on my X5K but did make a few rips of Christmas albums.

I have aTunes getting the music from my main music directory.

Should the album cover art be showing? Or do I have to old school download a .JPG on the internet and attach it to each song on that album?

I just see grey square as cover art now.

Would be nice if it could fetch cover art from the net.

TJ

* is there a readme that tells me how to get cover art to show? For the heck of it I grabbed a .JPG of an album cover and using the TAG editor I can select it and it shows in the cover art area.... but the APPLY button does not highlight. So I clicked around and after playing a bit the Apply button highlighted so I clicked apply... but the song still does not show the cover art.

** also, some durations for songs appear way off in the main aTunes window. 16 minutes for a few when they are only like 3 minutes.

Re: Beginner AmigaOS 4 based Programming Language

@Daedalus

Downloaded and tinkering with 3.6.1 beta of AmiBlitz3.

Had to locate and grab reqtools.library from OS 4 Depot to get past the error, and some font error for GUI that I was able to just select a different font.

I have it running at 2560x1440 on a 32" display and the whole IDE fills the whole screen and is nicely visually.

It seems a tad wonky at times I will get slowing of the cursor and jitters every now and then but so far been OK. Or I get oddball guru errors at 1st launch but then do it a 2nd time and she runs. Dragging a window around makes other apps running stutter, like AmigaAmp playing music stutters while I am in AmiBlitz and reading help file and resized the help window... the music went wonky a second.

It has some help files I will read through and tinker.

Wondering if this ends up working for me if older AmiBlitz books for older versions would be good for a novice like myself.

OK, now that it appears Pygame may work... is there an IDE you all recommend that works with Python? Some easy to use interface that will allow me to create an app, save, manipulate, etc...
