Re: WarpSNES / Snes9x Controllers (SOLVED)

@MamePPC1

I am pretty sure that AIA is working for SNES emulator(s) as rjd324 reported that it is. Try doing what LiveForIt said and after you assign keys to the buttons, keep the AIA open before you start your emulator.

Sorry for the sound issue, I would not know the reason why is it lacking. Maybe try different rom file, just guessing here?

@LiveForIt,

However you decide, it will be good, no worries at all and no rush! I've PM'd you the link to the config files.

Lol, I hate those 2 flying nasties at the end of each level, so hard to shot!

Anyway, here is my latest score, I manged to beat 328gts' score by couple of 1000's:

Sorry, I forgot to put date, I was so excited, I'll do it next time, promise! BTW, F1 saves screen print in RAM at 320x256 and F2 saves at full desktop resolution.

@LiveForIt,

Not sure if this is possible, but could config file be one file only? Not sure how time consuming this change might be and I am asking because right now we have a config file for one game only and one joystick setup inside. If I want to use another joystick, I have to overwrite previo1us setting. I am thinking one config file to hold all joystick info, something like this:

[joysticks]
Mayflesh_Arcade_Fight_Stick_F300=up=0,76,0;down=0,77,0...
Competition_Pro_USB=0,76,0;down=0,77,0...

Idea is directly taken from jabirulo's gamepadtest and seems more convenient. The game will be picked from the existing menu that you have and AIA will pick joystick from the config file or if non existent, you still can add it manually by assigning keys. There should be an option to edit the existing configuration too.

I am not sure how possible is that but just an idea!

What configurations you need, from AIA? If so, I can archive what I have and send it over to you.

Thanks!

Make sure you are using CR2032 battery. Is that the battery you are using? Maybe this new battery is not good, it happened to me before, maybe get a new one and a good brand.

Hey @MamePPCA1

You can find new release of AIA on the OS4Depot. Advantages are that it is working great! :)

Let's kick this off! Here is my first highscore entry:

I've resized the image and saved it as png because of the original image size (1080p, 6 megz large bmp).

Really good game: great gameplay, awesome GFX's, I enjoyed it more than I expected. And with the AIA, it's playable with joystick (game did not recognize my joystick)! Excelent work @saimo, thank you!

@rjd324

Regarding the Snes9x, it already have pre-defined keys, right? If it does, you can add those keys to the AIA config and gamepad should work with Snes9x. Never mind if you are already doing that, it was just not clear from your last post above.

Re: AmigaInput Queston

Hey @LiveForIt,

I've spent some time testing AIA and what can I tell, it works exactly as it is supposed to, thank you for that!

I've tested following games:

Heart of Darkness
Stunt Car Racer
Open Sonic
Friking Shark
Prototype
Shooter15 (jabirulo)

All of this games did not have joystick support and I could only play them on the keyboard. After setting up each game into the AIA, that was not a problem anymore.

When I initially started the AIA for the 1st time, something was off but I can't pinpoint exactly what happen. I used the InputTest to read the joystick and button assignments. It was reading them correctly but then I checked in the AmigaInput which did not show button presses or joystick movement (joystick was still present there). I did that after closing the AIA and if remember correclty it stated that joystick was released. After reseting the machine, I did not have any problems at all and I could not recreate this, so it might be something with the AmigaInput.

Of course, if I find any other issues, I'll let you now. Tested on X5000 and Mayflash Arcade FightStick F300.

You did a great job, thank you so much for this, it is really appreciated!

I am in @AmigaOldSkooler. No need for prizes, it's all about good times.

@jabirulo

Tried your game (Thanks!), looks fun but hard to play without joystick. I took a look in the gamecontrollerdb.txt and only one joystick is set up for Amiga. Is there a way to add some other joystick configurations? Also, after closing the game, OWB will open up, but I am not sure if it is going to some central repository to save or just randomly shows scores (most of the entries were anonymous except my own scores)? It is not the same score table as from your link above.

This was tested on X5000.

Thanks so much for a quick update! I'll look into it tomorrow morning, if gets out of the queue. I have perfect game to test it out, jabirulo's shooter as it is hard to play on the keyboard. Will definitelly let you know if I find some issues.

Re: AmigaInput Queston

Hey @Antique

I don't think you can. I just snatched my kids F310 controller to see if all of the buttons are recognized correctly and they are, which is good. You can't assign buttons, but all of them will be present in your game. Only way to re-assign buttons is via AmigaInputAnywhere if the game can be played via keybord. Just wait for LiveForIt to fix it.

Oh yes, one more thing. If gamepad is not responsive in the game, don't forget to calibrate it in AmigaInput. Just follow the instructions during the calibration and save settings when done.

@MamePPCA1

I completely agree what @trgswe said. In order for mame roms to work, you must find exactly the same mame rom set.

Here is one of the lists I used for my RetroPi set up:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d ... slkG3s/edit#gid=423376617

Link above will take you to the Google docs spreadsheet and if you look in the tabs at the bottom, it will tell you which version of mame you need in order for particular version of game within the tab to work. Try to find on the net a list for versions that AOS4.1 supports (0.151, 0.37, 0.106 and two more) and use the same mame rom set for it.

This link below might help you to get better understanding of how mame roms work, with versioning, it helped me a lot! I know it is for RetroPi, but the mechanics are the same.

@LiveForIt

If you needs someone to test it for you, I can volunteer and will be more than happy to help. In the lack of the proper Amiga input prefs, I think AIA can step in as a great workaround, not to mention, you will make a lot of people happy.

Thanks for doing this!

Re: AmigaInput Queston

Not too shy to talk

Thanks @LiveForIt, that's really good suggestion.

If you have time and can explain, on a high level, Axis 1 and 2, selecting between keyboard or joystick, what that exactly means? No matter what is selected, joystick will start moving mouse pointer. One more thing, button A (In AmigaInput is 1) is not visible in AIA. I've assigned it to keyboard key, but the message in output AIA CLI will state "ERROR: Bad config not mouse or keboard event?". Not sure why, the key assigned to is R-CTRL, but changing to any other button, it will give me the same message. Can you guess if the issue is with the AmigaInput or something else?

Thanks!

Re: AmigaInput Queston

I have the same issue as you @MamePPCA1, sometimes assigned buttons would make sprite go left and right or sometimes it will fire and go left at the same time and so on, just weird stuff. If you are able to assign any keys within MAME, maybe try to experiment and find out which keybard keys are translating well via AIA and gamepad and then use those buttons? Regarding the two gamepads, I do not see an option in AIA to pick up second gamepad, maybe it is not possible and you will only have to play single player games.

Re: AmigaInput Queston

Hey @MamePPCA1

Unfortunately, I can't help with the MAME gamepad conf settings, I don't have MAME on my system. Does any other games, simple ones with 1-2 buttons work, and MAME is not crashing?

Testing more games with AmigaInputAnywhere, appears that keyboard keys are randomly picked and not assigned to the corresponding buttons within AmigaInput. At the end what I said earlier is not exactly correct and I was only really lucky with the first game I picked to test. Looking at the settings file for each game, I wish I know what are the raw key codes for OS4.1, maybe manually changing those would give better linking results. I am no coder, so I have no idea.

Re: AmigaInput Queston

@MamePPCA1

No problem! Try this: go to AmigaInputAnyware, enter "config" drawer and right click and hold right click on "Default" config file. From the menu select copy.
Now open RAM: (make sure the window is blue) and in that open window right click and select paste from the menu. Rename file to your liking (right click on it and select "Rename") and do the same just reverse. Copy newly renamed config file and paste it into the "config" drawer.

Or what @LiveForIt above is saying (Thanks LiveForIt!), within "config" drawer click on duplicate in the menu and new file will be created called "Copy_of_Default". Just rename it to your liking. There are many ways to do this, of course, somehow I chose to pick the first one that came to mind.

I hope this helps!

Re: AmigaInput Queston

Hi @all,

I had busy weekend and finally managed to look into the AmigaInputAnywhere (AIA from now on). From what I understand, and I may be wrong, AIA is looking into the AmigaInput, but just to the buttons which you can see in the Test/Calibrate unit. It does not respect which color you have assigned to which button in the LowLevel.

I have tested "Heart of Darkness" using AIA and was able to assign keyboard keys to the Fightstick. It worked very good and in order for keys to be picked up, AIA needs to be open when you start the game.

@MamePPCA1

Not sure if you resolved issue of keys assignments in AIA or not, here is how I did it:

First, I went inside the drawer AmigaInputAnywhere then inside the Config. From there, I copied Default file and pasted it in RAM disk. Renamed the file to the executable of the game, in this case the Heart of Darkness which is "hode" and then copied and pasted that file back into the Config drawer. Now I opened AIA and could see my game in the list. I was able to edit it, not messing the other config files.

Resized Image

Before all of this, I wrote down the A-B-X-Y buttons in the "Test/Calibrate unit" and numbers assigned to it and also wrote down the keys within the game which correspond to the action (jump and fire). Clicking on edit in the AIA will give you the list of the buttons from AmigaInput so I clicked on button number and in the popup I have pressed the corresponding key for the action. Rinse and repeat until all buttons are assigned and save.

I did not test this in the emulator, I don't have one, but if you can assign keyboard keys in it globally (so all the games are using the same keyboard keys), you should be okay. I hope this helped.

@All

AIA is just a workaround for joystick/pad to work and is not a solution. What we need with in AmigaInput is option to assign buttons which will be accepted and recognized by the system/game and not only for legacy support (LowLevel). I would think this should be one of the first items to work on any system and by now, we should have working input preference for various gaming devices. I am thinking of something simple as it is in RetroPi, where you select configure joystick and then it asks you serious of questions for all of the directional/buttons assignments. Something simple as that, because right now, AmigaInput is broken. It will crash with almost every change and I can't even remember how many times I had to reset the machine because of this while testing out. Also as @rjd324 noticed (and Daedalus in the other thread), some of my assigns were producing left and right cursor movements, without any explanation.

Anyway, just my opinion, cheers!
