On AmigaOS4 you can use Prefs/Screens instead to create public screens, for example for IBrowse.

Excellent tip. This worked well for me. Many thanks.

Quick note: the quote option on the Amigans website does not work peoperly with the new IBrowse2.4? If you highlight a section of text to copy and paste, using the Quote tab pastes the whole body of text not just the section you selected. This feature works fine on other sites.

Very excited, especially if it will provide an option for a potable/laptop Amiga running OS4.0.

I rellay like Amiga Forever/AmiKit but it's just not an Amiga when it's running under windows. Plus I can't get to play with OS4.0 on my travels with a Windows based laptop!

What about installing the a52.library from os4depot? Is it helps? (Installing means: downloading and copying to libs:avcodecs/)

Duh! That's the problem installing the OS from scratch. You forget all the little fixes and update files you had to download to make all the programs work in the first place. I'll download the a52.library and report back.

UPDATE: a52.library copied to libs:avcodecs and DVplayer now has sound!

Many thanks and Merry Xmas.

No problem installing. Just can't get sound to work on DVplayer! Worked fine under pre-release4. Still investigating!

I couldn't wait so I bought an A1200 BPPC tower with OS4.0 beta installed

I've not had much chance to give it a thorough test yet but on the surface it appears very much like the A1 version but obviously running slower on the PPC enhanced classic hardware compared to an A1. However, IMHO it appears to run much the same as the classic MorphOS PowerUP version. This is obviously my subjective opinion based on running applications like IBrowse 2.3 etc.

Re: Favourite Amiga

My favourite Amiga! Difficult to say. I still have fond memories for my first Amiga (A2000HD with 68020 accelerator and pcbridgeboard). This is followed closely by my A4000 which I installed in an Ateo tower many years ago and added CSPPC & CV graphics card and oodles of other expansion boards. Neither of these classic machines compare to the speed of my A1-XE or ?A1-C, however as a collector of Amiga computers I still have a soft spot for the classic range.

I use both IBrowse and AWeb on my classic and Next Gen Amiga's, although for some reason I have a slight preference for IBrowse. On other systems I use Firefox.

Sometimes I have problems with Firefox on windoze websites which expect IE as the web browser.

I would gladly pay for an original CD, but will still download the ISO if and when it is available.

Sorry to hear about your problems. As far as sourcing RAM for your A1 try http://www.amigakit.com/
