@Hans
you are right. I am reading amiga-news.de and I am totally missed your ZitaFS. It looks great and I added myself to mailing list.

But, I am also missed this info on Amigaworld, because there is a majority of junk posts, so I make always a very quick look for new topics only.

Did you get a chance to test it? If yes, how was the performance?

I tested today older version 0.8.28 with recommended config on my Sam440ep-flex 733MHz>

+: sound is not lagging
-: CPU is slow - speed=68000/real
-: gfx is slow - no SDL+Picasso

From my point of view this version also not ideal.
And I prefer strategy games, so sound is not impotant for me

What we can do is experiment more with last JIT-1.0.0 SDL version and try the slowest settings for JIT compiller - i.e. 68020 and try to adjust cpu_speed and finegrain_cpu_speed settings.

Thanks for above, lots of good info. I tried the same with 360p, mp4 and mp3 and results were pretty good, just not sure how good are for SAM. Here are the settings:

360p_MPEG4_MP3

There are lots of compression artefacts flying around, if this is a movie, not sure how pleasant would be to watch it, but it would be watchable. I will definitelly play around with it to find acceptable combination. It would also help if I could use more that one core to compress, it took forever to complete 3 minute long video, average encoding speed was around 6.2 fps, that have nothing to do with the ffmpeg/GUI, of course. Hopefully Steven will release new kernel and soon!

thanks for ffmpeg settings. With this Sam400ep-flex 733 MHz plays videos with 80% CPU utilization.
Of course, video conversion with ffmpegGUi on Sam is terribly slow ( from HD H.264: speed 0.08x ) but X1000 made the job perfectly.

I have 512 MB here yet. And Tower57 works with it, main limitation is 32 MB VRAM. I used 16-bit version.

@levellord
yes, at least I can confirm HD 7970 + X1000. I have RadeonHD v5. for X1000, and video accelereration works ( with Emotion + DVPlayer )

I have also cards Devil R9 270X (inside Sam440ep-flex) and HD 7750 ( in the box), I can test them when next week. I am not at home now.

@Cageman
Last PCI are HD 7350 = 5450 or 4350. All of them are real PCIe with integrated PCI-PCIe bridge.
All this are supported with driver RadeonHD v3.7, but have no VA accelaration.

Southern Island cards (HD77xx, R9xxx) is the best choice, unfortunatelly RadeonHD v5. ( with video acceleration ) is now only for X5000, X1000 and Sam460. There is no Sam440 version.
So we need a little bit resource-undemanding codec ))

Re: Sam Flex and AmiTube

@AmigaOldskooler

With my 733 MHz Sam440ep-flex version I had this mplayer benchmark:
Serenity-HDDVDTrailer.mp4, 1280x720 pix, codec H.264, real length 139 sec:

With fastest gfx R9270X: 311 sec.
I.e. 733 MHz Sam is 2.25x slower than needed to play HD video without framedrops.
And it means, that Sam should play your mp4 640x360 video - it has 4x lesser resolution.
I can test it next week in real.

In any case, I also interested in question which video format is best ( i.e. less cpu consuming ) for Sam.

Of course, RadeonHD v5 with Video Acceleration support will be great here.

HURÁÁÁ!

Finally I place the payment.

I did the same as usual, only:
Firefox
- 1. tab opened link from browser, all cycled again and no payment, stays open
- 2. tab logged to my paypal
- 3. tab opened again the same link, cannot pay

then I closed paypal tab
on third tab I can finish the payment.

Magic or IT?
Please, don't do it to me next time. Such shock...

Re: Switch between many amigaos4 machines

I am using two KVMs:

Gembird CAS441: 4x PS/2+VGA for older machines. Works perfectly everywhere.
Secomp DVI USB switch: 4x USB + DVI. Works in operating system, but during early boot ( firmware ) keyboard not detected, so I cannoct select U-Boot or OpenFirmware options.

I use also Aten 4port USB sharing device US424. ( no shared video). It wotks in OS, and partially in early firmeare boot - I have to very quick re-select proper device after reset.

So I also ask you, if you know KVM USB + DVI/HDMI working also in firmware, it will be super.

there is also MKShare tool on AMIStore. I am not tested but probably it is like Synergy. I.e. at least one Amiga ( with mouse and keyboard ) must be turn on.

Re: NovaBridge released!

@K-L
I have Warp3D-SI. Its compatibility is not 100%. For example GLQake not works, and this one I often use for benchmarking, tests, comparing with MorpOS drivers.
And with AmigaOne XE Warp3D-SI is totally useless - crashed every application I tested.
So I am looking forward for better compatibility here.

Excellent review. Thank you!
I was missing exactly such infos.

For sure I will purchase NovaBridge for X1000 and Sam440ep-flex.

Re: RadeonHD V.5 driver

@Hans, Mathew

Please, are there at least theoretic plan to release RadeonHD v.5 for Sam440ep-flex?

I have it ( together with DVPlayer and Emotion ) for my X1000 and it woks fine for HD videos, with low CPU utilization. But it is fair to tell that X1000 is powerfull enough to play HD videos on CPU only ( utilized upto 100% ) and for me gives a much more sense to have RadeonHD v.5 on Sam440ep-flex. On this machine for me also not works Polaris cards, so I should have HD7xxx.

I cannot imagine how complex is for example to modify Sam460ex version to Sam440 ( same core, different SoC components ), but if a betatester will be needed, one is here.
