Any chance we could have ffprobe ported to OS4? There's a 68K FFMpeg package that includes it.
Thanks.

Arexx question - getting user responses from REQUESTFILE, REQUESTSTRING [Solved]

Hi, I am trying to put together an arexx script with no luck. I want to use REQUESTSTRING and REQUESTFILE to ask the user for input. However, I'm having trouble getting the result into a variable. Here's what I've got:
/* Download URL */
OPTIONS RESULTS
address command
'c:requeststring title "URL Downloader" body "Enter URL to download" to t:dlurl'
dlurl = result
'c:requestfile savemode title "Enter download filename" noicons >nil:'
dlfile = result
But it doesn't do anything, the two variables just read as RESULT. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank-you.

Same problem here, for quite some time: downloads (usually large files) from os4depot with Odyssey fail. I can resume them though, and usually complete on the second try.

@smf On OS4 with Odyssey, http://fast.com reports a download speed of 21 Mbps and an upload speed of 77 Kbps (!!!). On Linux with Firefox, http://fast.com reports a download speed of 48 Mbps, and an upload speed of 20 Mbps. Maybe Odyssey is the bottleneck? I can't find another Amiga browser that works with fast.com. I can upload a file to my fileserver (filefactory) as another comparison. Pftp reports speeds in CPS, which is difficult to compare (just realised I could use NetSpeedMon to check the speed in Kbps, so I'll run this again when I'm back in OS4). [edit] NetSpeedometer shows a max speed of 134 kbps, although this was just a peak. Average speed seems to be around 118000 CPS, which seems very slow. Uploading via Filezilla on Linux 690 KB/s. I am also using 8169, having recently switched over from 8139, however, the transition has been problematic and several times the network has just stopped working. I understand there are beta versions of the driver available, however, I'm not a beta tester, so I am just using what was delivered to the users who bought the X5000. I am unable to replicate your test. The version of aget currently on OS4 depot is a Hollywood app. It cannot be run by command line, and when I give it the url you specified, it responded with "host now found" (although Odyssey can find it, so I guess the problem is with aget). If there is a way of increasing network speed, I would love to hear it. My X5000 is my main computer, and its slow speed is a pain. Upload is so slow I basically cannot share large files - it invariably times out.

MultiRen is great. It can be fiddly to use, but its fiddly because it is so powerful and has alot of options to master.
I think what we need most is an updated network stack. My download, and especially upload speeds, on OS4 are diabolically slow. I boot into into Linux on my X5000 and, with the same hardware, I get much faster speeds.

Great video, I wanted to see more of the case and got my wish. It's certainly roomy in there, the X5000 board seems pretty tiny. Lots of space for expansion. Sorry to hear you had to make so many attempts to get a working soundcard. I chose the cheapest PCIe on ebay, and it worked no problems.

Great video! Awesome setup you have there. The Thermaltake case looks very smart, it would be good to see a future video that gives a better look at it.
Surprised to see you are into Spectrum, I didn't think it was terribly well-known in the States.
And nice to finally put a face to the name. ;)
Look forward to seeing more.

Interesting results. If the X5000 supported it, I would probably add a 2nd graphics card, although I would need to sacrifice my PCIe 8169 card and use on-board ethernet (which isn't ideal). Would like to have dual monitor support in OS4.
It's weird that there was such a spike in WinUAE users in 2018. Maybe notification of the poll found its way through some other distribution channel that year?

@Raziel
Not entirely sure what you're asking, but I'm using an SSD and 2 SATA drives in my X5000.
I installed the SSD on the p5020sata.device, and contains WB, Work (apps & documents), Games, Misc/Temp, OS-4 Depot (apps I'm not actively using) and Amicygnix (which I use for Amicygnix, QT, Odyssey and Timberwolf).
I also transplated 2 SATA drives from my A1-XE, onto a sil3112 pci card, which contain documents, videos and pictures.
More and more I am finding that I use my NAS for pictures and videos, as I transfer stuff between my Amiga, iPad and phone.
They perform very well. Initially had some problems with my SATA drives, but I traced that down to a loose cable connection.
Umm, surely moving data from an SSD to a SATA drive would not reduce wear but increase it? After all, an SSD has no moving parts but the SATA does? Or do you mean "wear" in a non-phyiscal sense?

Could you please post the model number of the card you are using? I am hoping to replace my RTL8169 PCI with PCIe.
Thanks!

I had a fair amount of stability issues in my non-fixed A1XE G4, especially with USB. Even with a USB PCI card, I found that USB transfers would often crash or fail.
Then I replaced the CPU cooler and everything became alot more stable. USB failures became very rare.

I have a Radeon 9256 with 256 MB in my A1XE G4. In earlier versions of AmigaOS 4.x, I would only see 128 MB. Then, at some point, there was an upgrade that allowed me to see all 256 MB.
I don't think I did anything other than update my version of OS4 (and now on FE). It just became available.
I don't know if it's a limitation of the G3-SE, or perhaps your card and mine are different in the way they address the extra memory.
Having said that, if I try and use more than 128 MB (usually by opening multiple screens, one of them being Odyssey), I invariably get GFX corruption.

I was able to sort it by downloading to Ram: instead.
Haven't had a chance to play with it (I have to work this weekend) so will check it out next week.

Thanks.
Unfortunately, when I ran Updater something went wrong and the install fell over.
Now, whenever I run updater, it says I have 3.2 installed, but I only have 3.1 installed.

I was using Nick Clover's weather.py from OS4 Depot, which broke last Easter. A few months ago I finally got down to taking a look at it, and I discovered that the BBC reformatted their RSS metadata. I think they changed the city codes. I was able to rewrite weather.py to get it working again.
