@Raziel
1 Yes it is 2 I use the mechanical temperature sensor included with the tower and displayed on the front panel. It is one of three sensors available with the tower and i have checked its accuracy to 1 degree with a lazer temperature reader. It is sited directly above the cpu core. all other temp questions answered above. 3 I use a bog standard cheap universal cpu cooling fan and heatsink which came shrinkwrapped without any makers ID, exept that it was made in China. It just happened to be the right size and weight for what I needed. 4 Since mine was the prototype project, the time taken was not relevant, since it took more than one attempt to get a working module. First the damaged capacitors had to be replaced, then the first cpu rework didn't take, so I had to bite the bullet and try another cpu. All in all the process took about 8 months. Bearing in mind there were other projects being worked on at the same time, namely Sam440. 5 I think so, run under name raoul.penel

Hi all, just a quick note to let you all know that the 7457 processor module has now been running my A1 continuously since March25th. you can see my d-net contribution under raoul.penel both for OGR25 and RC572. The cooling temperature has remained a steady 34 degrees, and there have been no glitches.

@salass00
Hi, I wasn't offended, I was hurt because of the implied dismissal of anyone who is not a coder or a developer. because the Eyetech boards are also developer boards, A1XE was advertised as such, but was put on sale to anybody who wanted one at the time. I know I am not a coder or a developer but surely my money is just as good as anyone elses, and besides had it not been for MY persistence there would be no rework or upgrade path for the existing cpu modules. It is essential, to retain the customer base of loyal Amigans, not to alienate them from the development side of things. End users have their uses too.

I don't like the implication that people like me should not have got hold of an A1 from eyetech, that kind of elitism has just lost ACK a customer

I would really like to see a range of Amiga software to allow me to drop the PC. Internet Banking Office Vista Emulator(or 2000Pro) In short the thing has got to be able to do more than PC.
Then I wake up and wish maybe an Amiga Laptop would be nice.

@Mikey_C I didn't just go through 18months of waiting and cajoling people to fix my cpu module in order to throw in the towel now. Shit man get that beginners c course up and running and lets get porting. All we can do as the lucky owners of A1 hardware is produce as much software as we can until other hardware is available which I believe will be soon anyway!

I can't remember the year it all started now but I got hold of a Vic 20, which was about ?110.00 in those days, from one of the large stores. Imagine the big stores stocking A1's now eh? I think it was 1983/84 but once I got it I was hooked, I never went over to the dark side. Upgraded to C64, A500, A1200, A1XE as they came out. Unfortunately the dark side caught up and I now have to use that for work but Amikit does a great job of disguising it.

Our Kuwaiti student brought a brand new PS3 with him and it packed up within 2 days. Maybe it has same cooling probs as A1 so no interest at the moment

It sounds a good idea at face value, the input of millions of sales would benefit OS4 no end. But there would have to be safeguards to protect the existing hardware and future projects with already considerable time and money invested in them. Protection of the OS's independence is also a consideration as well as what influence the linux and ps3 os's would have on the direction of OS4 development. sorry if others have same opinion already posted but this idea may require a show of hands.

At the moment Max has found existing jumper combinations to run the 7457 at 1.1, 1.3 and 1.5 GHz although at 1.5 we are again talking about overclocking which is not recommended. This was on my module for my XEG4. I don't know what the situation will be for micros as I don't own one.

Yes, at the second attempt, it seems to work and is on its way back to me. It looks like we may have enough demand to force prices down from the suppliers, judging by the traffic here. let's hope that is the case.

@afxgroup
The module had to be repaired not only because the CPU was down but also the capacitors nearest the mounting holes had become detached at one end. The capacitor rework was attempted first incase that was the only fault but once it became clear that the cpu was duff it was a logical step to try to change the cpu. The only ones available were the 7457 so I obtained some as you all know. The module sprang into life at the second attempt, and the results have been released. Further testing is ongoing for temperature/cooling properties but the signs are looking good that we have a repair path for the modules. The extra Mhz is a bonus. My thanks go to ACube and Max Tretene without whom this would not have happened. I dont know how they found the time considering their workload.

@Jack
Please refer to our PM's from amigaworld.net . this avenue is already being explored and awaiting results. Bear in mind that the people concerned also have their own hardware projects in progress and have to devote the majority of their time to those projects. This kind of experimental work is being carried out at our own expense and to the possible detriment of our own hardware so all we ask is your patience which must surely be cheaper for you in the end. If you have your own resources there is nothing stopping you experimenting. Good luck to you if that is the path you choose.
