An "idetool -l sii3114ide.device" says "*** Error opening device sii3114ide.device / unit 0" and the same for all 16 units.
16 units? Actually, the card has 4 units and, thus, only unit 0 to 3 should be usable. Quote:
"idetool -b" prints a dump of hex bytes which is useless to me, but part of it does look like it finds a controller which makes some sense to it:

So although the card is somewhat visible from both UBoot and AmigaOS, I have no idea if it could be made to actually work. I suspect both UBoot and the sii3114 driver need some sort of update to enable them to work with the known chip in an unknown context - or whatever .
Anybody more informed about the technicalities is welcome to chime in (where's Olegil when we need him? ).
nbache: I can compare tonight the output with my own card. As I said it works perfectly for me. However, since I only use the external ports, I use 'GiggleDisk' (check Aminet) for mounting my 2TB hardisk. So, maybe, you also can try and check this tool. In addition, if you have a eSATA-to-Sata cable, try if the external ports work. Dunno if that makes a differnence, but well, a it's worth a try. cheers, nexus

@nbache Quote: Hans wrote: Quote: nbache wrote: I had some time today to make my first tests with the Exsys EX-3506 card in the Sam460ex. I first tried simply switching the UBoot setting from Sata2 to PCIe and putting the HD cable on the first internal port of the card and booting from "SATA 3114 HD" (or whatever that setting is called, can't check it ATM).
No luck. So it seems UBoot/FLB cannot use devices on the card as boot sources.
Did you also change the jumper on the motherboard for switching between Sata2 and PCIe? You have to change both the UBoot setting, and the jumper.
In addition, you have to change the jumpers on the Exsys SATA card. I think, by default, the 4 external ports are jumpered to be used and then, no internal port can be used -- I can't remember that I have changed the jumper settings and (as I only need the external ports) I can use all 4 external ones for my devices. Check the manual! cheers, nexus

The question is only, if this card is recognized by Sam460 in Uboot (such that you can boot from a connected HD). AmigaOS4 works nicely with this card in my Amiga (not being a Sam460) :) If everything else fails then at least booting the kickstart moduls from a SD card and then from a HD at that Sata controller really should work with the Sam460 -- but since I don't have a Sam460, I can't guarantee :) nexus

That was a different card, wasn't it?

P.S. And Sinan also wrote he has a 2 port PCIe SATA card (in his Sam?) which works.

This should be the reason why the most important Amiga show should be held again in DEutschland / Cologne (like in good old former times) and not in USA (AmiWest) :) It's too far away for us, being the majority of all! ;)

And it worked?
Yes, I think, the tool is called fastboot: http://aminet.net/package/util/boot/FastBootV1_0Would be great to have something like hibernate on AOS4! nexus

I thought, there's something like like 'inotify' on linux also for AmigaOS4 which makes it possible to notice changes to the filesystem?

@Raziel Actually,*Amigans* should know! .. but I also tend to forget it myself too often because I'm used to unix like systems, too. However, as long as the community is as helpful as here at amigans.net or eventually, the brain turns on its lights again, it's doesn't matter that much. regards, nexus

Actually, it's not a wildcard on AmigaOS (here, "*" is "#?" as we all know) but actually indeed an escape character (instead of backslash "") for exactly this purpose.
It is documented in the AmigaDOS booklet or at least in the AmigaOS3.5-Book (or however, it was called by Haage & Partner).

@abalaban
ok, thanks. So doing it by hand is the best but also most time consuming option.
Waiting desperately for Jamie Krueger .. maybe, I should register to his donation/support/betatesting thing :)
Another question: Is it at all possible to have a multi-line list? Something like a result list with clickable links and description snippets, etc? Haven't seen something like that on AOS, therefore, I ask.
thanks, nexus

Well, I don't have any experience with Amiga GUIs and I'd like to create a not too complicated one with the least possible effort (as a front end for a c++ program). On os4depot.net, I found Emperor. Can someone recommend it or knows something better? I'd like to have a window (in OS4-style) with at least 2 tabs. Is it possible to have something like a file lister and each entry in the lister allows multiples lines of description (not only a single line per entry). Actually, i don't like GUIs -- it seems harder to create one to visualize the solution of a problem than to solve the problem itself Thanks, nexus P.S. Hollywood is very nice to visualize something. Is it possible to interact with a c++ program? I wonder, if A.M.C does it this way and how
