Re: NFS

@cha05e90

I don't think so, but I will check next week when I'm back at my Amiga. Meanwile, thanks for the lead.

@Jack
The idea is to reinstall Linux using my Amiga DVD/CD drive because the CD drive on my Linux box is flaky. Sounds like what I need to do is put a copy of AmiTCP on my Sam440EP.

@Jack
I agree smbfs works well between AmigaOS4 and Linux. However, I need to rebuild Linux and am having trouble with my CD drive on the Linux box. So I thought I would try to use the DVD/CD drive on my Sam. Hence the search for NFS.

@prowler
I got my nfsd from Aminet and I had sort of come to the same conclusion as you viz a vis Roadshow. Will try AmiTCP, though.

@cha05e90

Not sure. Is NAT equivalent to portmapper? I tried setting a rpc server linking a dev: device in Roadshow prefs. That did not get nfsd server operational

Thanx. I will try that and let you know how it turns out.

NFS

I downloaded an nfsd daemon to run on my SAM 440 EP. I learn that I need a portmapper, e.g., in bin directory of AMITCP.

Two Questions:
1. Does anyone know another source for portmapper?
2. Will Amitcp run with AmigaOS 4.1?

@all
I installed a KVM switch so that both keyboard and mouse use one USB port on the back. Now only one USB port on front and one on back work. Before they all worked. I hope someone figures out how to solve this problem.

This is not quite true or at least not clear - of course you can use the lpr.device from every program, I'll do this all day - I have a PostScript/PCL5 network printer attached and all runs smooth.

I do not have a native postscript printer; I have an Epson StylusPhoto1280. When I try to print to it using lpr.device outside the Amicygnix environment I get a message that says, "Failed to receive acknowledgment (negative acknowledgment)" or some such language. That's what I find puzzling. There is some Roadshow parameter that needs to be changed (I guess), but I don't have a clue what it is.

@BillE
I sent Zedonet an email about the fact that Turbospool freezes my Sam. They kindly suggested that I just not use Turbospool and went on to say they don't support Turboprint for AmigaOS 4.1.

I have same issues eveyone else has but I can print to my Epson StylusPhoto1280 using Turboprint's Epson StylusPhoto1290 driver and the usbprinter.device. I learned here that I can print text files using Multiview, so life is good.

I have also dicovered that when I print from an Amicygnix program I can print using generic postscript and lpr.device. I just wish I understood why I can't use lpr.device in non-Amicygnix environment and why Multiview is only way I can print a text file with Turboprint.

Re: Paying an Amiga developer

@all

How's this for a plan?
1. We brainstorm for projects.
2. We prioritize by voting on the projects.
3. We solicit proposals, requiring a resume, timeframe and price.
4. Then we deposit the money for the project(s) we wish to fund with a trustworthy person who will act as a banker.
5. Programmer will be rewarded for coming in ahead of schedule and penalized for missing the timeline, so much a month.

@328gts

I am using Abiword, which runs under Amicygnix. I am using Turboprint to print to an Epson StylusPhoto 1280. When I bring up the print dialogue in Abiword, it thinks I'm using a Workbench printer. But it works.

Believe it or not AmigaOne is the name of my Linux machine. You really don't want to know why .
I have tried with the generic printer driver in 4.1 but get the same message: "Failed to receive acknowledgment (negative acknowledgment)."

Thanks for the link to netprinter.device. I did look for it on Aminet. Don't
knowwhat I did wrong.

@logicalheart
I have an Epson StylusPhoto1280.
I use DHCP so give the name of the Linux 'puter to which the printer is attached.

I use a Turboprint driver StylusPhoto1290 (doesn't have a 1280 driver). I set device to lpr.device

The lpr.device file in env: is Host=AmigaOne Dir=Temp:spool.

Now that Update 1 has improved usbprinter.device I finally am able to print. I'd still like to figure out how to make lpr.device work, however.

I have a Sam440EP. When I try to print using lpr.device I get a message: "Failed to receive acknowledgment for print command (negative acknowledgment). Have you or anyone else experienced this? What is the solution? I have been trying for months to get printing going and it is getting pretty frustrating.
