Re: Floppy disk drive on SAM

@ZeroG

I've tried two different motherboard headers. Perhaps they both were hubs? I'll check with ACube.

Edit: I checked last night. The headers I tried were J12 and J13. I have not tried J28; however, J28 is the USB 1.0 header. I still have no word from ACube.

@LiveForIt

I connected the Kryoflux board via a USB motherboard to USB B cable. I've already checked the wiring against the SAM460ex manual to make sure it was correct. I have also tried switching between the USB 1.0 and 2.0 motherboard headers.

I have also checked the floppy cable, making sure the red line was connected to pin 0. The floppy drive is at the end of the cable just past the twist in the ribbon.

@Amigo1

As I said in the post, I have the Kryoflux connected directly to the motherboard. The green, red, and yellow LEDs light up and flash, showing the board is working and recognized; yet, the yellow light often goes out while trying to access the drive. After hitting the reset button on the board, the USB stack sees it again. Even though it sees the board, it can't read a single disk.

@magnetic

I had been thinking of the Catweasel, but from what I read, the Kryoflux was supposed to be better at recovering old Amiga disks. What I really would prefer at this point is a real classic Amiga with a 1.76MB floppy drive and KS 3.1 to read and convert to .adf files. It all comes down to what I can afford.

@Resurrected thread

I've been trying to read my collection of hundreds of Amiga disks (DD 880k, HD 1.76MB, and DiskSpare) on the Kryoflux with a Sony MPF920 and NEC FD1231T. So far, I have not been able to read a single disk out of my whole collection.

I have the USB connected directly to the SAM460 motherboard. The floppy is powered by the PSU. The following is the most recent attempt of getting Amiga disks read.

When I updated to AmigaOS 4.1 FE, Cycas stopped working. I had to reinstall it to get it to work again. It may be something as simple as Cycas fonts being in the Fonts: drawer.

With all of the talk about javascript in Odyssey, I was wondering if and when Duktape will be used in the AmigaOS version of Netsurf? Won't it need to be ported from x86?

Edit: I just found a snippet of AmigaOS Netsurf code on Google showing javascript/duktape/duktape.

Oops. I put the query in the wrong forum. Of course, Aladdin4D is for OS 2.04 and above.

If an administrator could put this in the correct forum, it would be appreciated.

@Antique

I have a 5.1 surround speaker system. Even though I have all of the physical connections connected, am only getting sound out of the middle speakers... and it is very quiet.

I have already emptied my DEVS drawer of the old drivers, so AHI only sees the Envy24ht.

How do I set up AHI prefs music unit, unit 1, unit 2, unit 3, channels, volume, gain, advanced settings, etc.?

Aladdin 4D compatibility problem
Just popping in
Just popping in

Good day all,

The other day, I decided to do some modeling and rendering with Aladdin 4D. It was the first time I've tried it under OS4.1 FE. A4D triggered a grim reaper. I clicked on "continue program" only to have another grim reaper that only gave the option of killing the program or rebooting the SAM460ex. I rebooted.

I checked compatibility prefs, making sure that A4D was in the list. It was. I imagine that A4D somehow conflicts with 4.1 FE. Hopefully A-Eon will release a OS4.1 native A4D in the next few years 8^)

I then tried using Run-in-UAE to start A4D. It would not load A4D. I checked the configuration, changed 68000 to 68020, and tried A4D again. It would not start.

What do I need to do to get A4D running in UAE?

When I try to stream video using this method, the cache fills up at 0.10% of the video no matter what I try to watch. To what should I set -cache or -cache-min?

Thank you,

SAM460ex vs SAM460ex benchmarks
Just popping in
Just popping in

Good day,

As the owner of a SAM460ex Lite, I've wondered if having a 1.10GHz or 1.15GHz SAM460 would make a difference. I would not think there would be much difference between 1 GHz and 1.15 GHz, but the RAM speed is different as well.

The Lite works with a 407MHz FSB with a CPU clock multiplier of 2.5.
The 1.10 GHz works with a 440MHz FSB with a CPU clock multiplier of 2.5.
The 1.15 GHz works with a 575MHz FSB with a CPU clock multiplier of 2.

Has anyone ever done benchmarks comparing the CPU and RAM speed of each SAM460 version?

@Raziel & kas1e

Actually, it should depend on which R7 250 is being used. The 250X is like a rebranded 8760 or 7770 (Cape Verde XT chipset). The difference is that the 250X has 4.5GHz memory instead of 1125MHz.

The R7 250E is supposed to be a rebranded HD 7750 (Cape Verde PRO). The results of the 250E being slower than the 7750 seems strange given the difference in memory speed is again that of 4.5GHz versus 1125MHz. With that said, I've seen sites that say the effective memory speed of the 7750 is actually 4.5GHz, not 1125MHz. If that is the case, then there should be little difference between the two.

I've seen single slot variants of both the HD 7750 and R7 250E. Since the above tests suggest the 7750 is faster, and the price is slightly lower than the 250E, I may have to change my plans for my next graphics card purchase.

Quote:
Yes, I've had one die on me only a few days ago. The boot process seemed to freeze, but left to itself, it would complete after half an hour or so. The card seemed to be continuously interrupting while ever a HD was connected to it.

Once the system was up, I could move the mouse, but nothing would seem to change for about a minute, when the mouse pointer would jerk on the screen. You can imagine how long it took to type a command on the console.

Replacing the card fixed the problem, but it *could* have been just the act of unplugging the card and replugging the new one. I didn't recheck the old one after satisfying myself that it was the fault of the card.

A brand new 3512 just did the same thing to me. Time to send it back for a refund.
