Me too! Works great! :)

Also managed to get Giana Sisters running ok for the first time. I don't know what made the deal, but downloaded a special version of E-UAE for SAM (http://www.soft3dev.net/pages/e-uae.php), set the screenmode (own screen) to 320 x 256, disabled JIT in RunInUAE. The game ran better and more stable with JIT off. :) Also tried without frameskip on this one and it worked, so very happy about that. It is worth mentioning that E-UAE SDL proved ok with these settings as well.

Other games I've tried has stuttering in the audio, while some doesn't, so probably need to configure each game separately.

@corto

That looks interesting! I will see if I can manage to get proper speed by trying some of the solutions presented in that thread. :)

@corto

Thanks for the info. :)

Yes, I'm struggling a bit with getting classic Amiga emulation to run well on the Sam460. There is stuttering in both graphics and sound. Have tried several version of E-UAE to no avail.

In this context I watched videos on YouTube of a Micro AmigaOne running classic Amiga games through emulation without problems (as far as I could see), as well as performing great with other tasks as well.

This made me think about the differences.

Also saw a Micro for sale on eBay and got tempted. ;)

@redfox

How does emulation of old Amiga games work on your setup? Do they run well? Amiga 500 titles in particular. Also, have you tried Battle for Wesnoth on it? It is slow on my 460, but remember it as faster on older systems. :)

@trixie

I saw a couple of videos on YouTube of AmigaOne Micro emulating Project X and Superfrog etc. with good speed, while I have problems getting this working on SAM460. Therefore curious if the CPU on it, for example, is stronger. The Micro seems to run other stuff very well too.

I see there are AmigaOS 4 files on Aminet not on OS4Depot, like these games:

http://aminet.net/package/game/wb/DonkeyKong_OS4

http://aminet.net/package/game/wb/Runaway_OS4

Some of the Workbench-games on Aminet also works on AmigaOS 4. Do you think these should be uploaded to OS4Depot too? Some might find these and some system friendly programs useful. Just a thought. :)

I was wondering if anyone knows how an AmigaOne Micro A1-C would perform if set up against a SAM440EP or SAM460? Just basic setup with only internal graphics card on all.

Is the CPU (750Fx G3) much slower than the 440EP or 460?

Thanks in advance for input. :)

@Spectre660

Thanks for the info on the cards.

I've tried the card now. It is a VTX Radeon R7 240 with 2 GB of RAM.

Have the Enhancer Plus (the one available now) with the RadeonHD driver installed.

The OS boots to Workbench, but after a second everything freezes.

When booting with no startup sequence, I can type in commands etc., but as soon as I try to run a program it freezes again.

Have tried VGA, DVI and HDMI.

Only thing I haven't tried is buying and installing the latest Radeon HD drivers from the upgrade pack they are offering. This pack contains RadeonHD 3, while the one with enhancer is RadeonHD 2.

Now I'm back to the old card, which works well except for 3D. :)

I asked AmigaKit to help me find a new graphics card for the SAM460 and they've sent one in the post. Will I need to install drivers for it in my current system before installing it physically? They sent me a Radeon R7 240, but after reading here I'm worried it won't work, although I doubt they'd send a card which was not supported. I presume I should get one of the Enhancer packs for this one? I still find the whole thing with the different Enhancers and Radeon drivers and the lot quite confusing, even after reading thread here on Amigans. Thanks in advance. :)

Graphics Card Upgrade - SAM 460

I currently have a Radeon 6450 installed in my SAM 460 system. Sadly, there is no 3D support (as far as I can see) for this card. I'm therefore looking to replace it.

Have read several threads here, but I'm still unsure which card to go for. I'm not looking for something very expensive, just want to have 3D working properly. Right now several games runs slow, so looking to speed things up.

Do you guys have any suggestions? I remember using the Radeon 9250 PCI (I think) in the SAM Flex and that felt much faster than the card I'm using now, but I guess there are many better alternatives out there.

Thanks in advance for your help (again). :)

A quick update in case someone else experience the same problem. Deleting prefs and and inserting loadwb SKIP did the trick. :) Now the desktop is back in action again! Thanks so much for your help!

AmigaOS 4.1 FE boots to blank "Workbench screen"

Seems like I've somehow managed to mess up my setup...

Was changing the preferences in the "Locale" program to set country, language etc., but it when I tried to save the new settings, a requester appeared with garbled text.

Could not get the requester to go away, so decided to do a reboot.

Computer started up, got the AmigaOS 4.1 FE logo, but after that it ended up with a blank screen saying "Workbench screen" on top. Mouse working, but no content.

Tried rebooting several times, turning computer on and off, but am lost on what to do.

I'll probably do a complete re-install, but before resorting to that, any ideas on what can be wrong? I have tried searching for solutions, but could not find any. Only thing I found was something about a "Quickfix" from years back that caused this kind of problem.

Setup:

SAM 460 - AmigaOS 4.1 FE (with latest update) - RadeonHD driver / 6450 HD card

Thanks in advance. :)

Best regards from clumsy Bob

Thanks for the help. Disabled a few of the options and the game runs faster now. :) Strange that the menus are slow, but the gameplay itself is faster.

@salass00

I used the one available for download at OS4Depot. I will see if I can get hold of an older version somewhere to test.

Have downloaded the port of Andrea Palmate now, but it did not work at first attempt. Will try a few more times to see if I can get it running.

Battle for Wesnoth - SAM460 - Speed

Just popping in

Hi there,

Used to play Battle for Wesnoth on the SAM440EP a long time ago and I remember the game to be smooth and playable.

Installed it on the SAM460 and it is a bit slow and sluggish. Have RadeonHD-drivers installed and a RadeonHD 6450 graphics card, so thought it would run pretty well.

Anyone has any ideas on what is causing the slow-down (you click on something in the menu and it takes a while to respond, lag)? Don't think it was like this on the 440EP.

Have tried running it in fullscreen and window.

Thanks in advance for input. :)

Btw.. Tower 57 runs great! :) Would have thought this game was more demanding that Battle for Wesnoth.
