False alarm! It seems my user credentials remembered by Updater were somehow wrong. After logging out, restarting Updater, then re-entering my credentials, I was able to login & get Updater to work.

How update Updater without Updater?

I think my Updater is too old to login, and there doesn't seem to be any way to download the latest Updater (without using Updater!), which seems a silly oversight.
AMIStore doesn't seem to offer any way to download the latest EnhancerSoftware (which contains Updater), so it seems I am stuffed?
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I may be being stupid, but can't see a way to download the demo (at least using Odyssey).

@Lio eNewsReader does support HTTPS but it is a bit of a hack, so it tries to use plain HTTP first.

@ferrels Seems like PyGUI directly generates native GUIs, so not likely to work on OS4.

@broadblues Thanks for the ProAction suggestion. With the lack of a cross-platform GUI solution for Python on OS4, it seems like the only solution would be to roll my own (with ProAction code being generated for OS4 & another toolkit for Android/etc). But sounds like a lot of work, so not likely to bother with GUI on OS4 for the time being P.S. Afraid I am not interested in Hollywood.

Hi
Are there any GUI toolkits for OS4 Python? Anyone have any experience with them?
Hoping to find one which also gives decent results on Android...

@kas1e Why are you using -O3, seems like asking for trouble? I'd try using just -Os (or even no -O at all). And then add better optimisation at the end, after everything is working.

@trixie I may start using Python on the Amiga, although the lack of Python 3.x might be a stumbling block...

AmigaRacer no-longer updatable - amigatec.com is down

I tried to update AmigaRacer, but it fails since "amigatec.com" is down (although it still seems to be registered).
Does anyone know where you can download the most up-to-date version? (My version is 3.98, but I'd like to be able to reinstall it if necessary - and I image other people who bought the CD version would like to be able to update as well.)
I recall the developers of AmigaRacer were devloping a new 3D platformer. Do they have another website, email address, etc?

@pseudaxos @samo79 Thanks for your feedback.
But someone(s) claimed that the sound was less choppy/stuttery with the SDL version. Can you confirm/deny?

@samo79 Quote: why don't you include both No. RunInUAE is supposed to be easy to use/install, with a default configuration that should work well in most circumstances. Most users will have no idea which is best if I ask them during the installation (why should they if I don't?). And anyway, RunInUAE already supports "advanced users" using alternative installations of E-UAE, so I really don't see any benefit of confusing the average user with an unnecessary choice (it already asks too many questions, despite my best efforts).

Quote: Beware: I bought 3 of these cards, but the 2nd one caused the OS4 driver to crash (despite them all appearing to be identical). So my success rate was 67% with this card. I did test the 'faulty' one with a Linux PC, and it worked fine with that. So a bit of a mystery.

@white Going by your AB3D2 video, you are using an (at least slightly) non-standard .uaerc (or .uaerc_RunInUAE) file with RunInUAE. Unfortunately that makes your tests not very useful to me. (Also your use of WinUAE to run RunInUAE potentially makes them less helpful, since I need to know if you issues are present on real Amiga hardware.) @all Unfortunately more urgent things got in the way of me releasing this updated RunInUAE, and sadly at least one thing still does, but I do still hope to release this eventually. Basically I just need to carefully test (or several others to test) whether the SDL or AmiGfx version of E-UAE gives better sound on a low-end Amiga like my Sam440... Reminder to self: I really ought to investigate installing P96 (so RunInUAE can then support it), as described here: https://amigax5000.blog/2017/08/27/a-f ... assic-mode-optimisations/

@Raziel I bought two different cards, and both worked :) http://amigakit.amiga.store/product_info.php?products_id=63This is an RTL 8139D based PCI network card. Same chip as my old card, so basically identical. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01M74CLEGThis is an RTL 8169 based PCI *Express* network card, which theoretically supports Gigabit networks. Works fine in the PCI Express slot of my X1000. Based on some rough measurements, the RTL 8169 PCI Express card is about 20% faster (on a 100Mbit network - maybe it's be even faster on an Gigabit network, although the Amiga's TCP/IP Stack introduces big overheads, so the speed-up may be limited).

Looks like I was right about my PCI network card failing, as a replacement seems to have fixed my issue.

After some experiments, the most likely explanation seems to be that my PCI network card is failing :(
Can anyone recommend a replacement card (for my X1000) that can still be bought?
Anyone know if a PCI-Express card with a compatible RTL chipset will work?
