Re: SFS 1.276 and CF 2.0 GB

@TetiSoft

I thought a CF card connected to the IDE-port would look just like a HD from the hardware (and software) point of view? Isn't that what the adapters are supposed to take care of?

@COBRA

A chance, yes, but maybe not a big one The other ports just have a small GUI to select which keyboard mapping file to use, but I've had some plans for a full keyboard mapping GUI. If I get bored/bad weather during my vacation (only one more week of work now, yay) I'll have a go at it...

They may always have been disabled as OS4 didn't care about the UBoot settings in the past.

@COBRA

Hmm, what exactly did you change?

Changing this:

1 7 0 8
2 7 3 8

To this:

2 7 0 8
1 7 3 8

really should make it typ 2 when 1 is pressed (not at home right now, so can't verify it).

I'm not sure if the pos or sym file is used, or both in some weird way, or something. Better change them both

I get a "fpse009dll.exe failed returncode 20" (regardless
of which Read Mode i use) when using cdrom.dll and a PSX CD.
The GUI can "Autodetect Read Mode" without problems so it's
not a problem of not finding the device.

Plus the latest version locks up after exit, not sure though,
may be the GUI acting up.

It seems the latest public version doesn't work properly with the latest OS4

Another minor issue is that i have to choose the Image file
again after choosing the image from the GUI and "Start File".

"Start File" is only for homebrewn games and demos. You should not choose the image from the GUI, but press "Start CD" and then choose the image file when asked for it.

I have FPSE with update 4 and I have two games that I could
run,one is Tekken 3 and the other one ISS Pro Evolution 2.
I have tried to run these and the only I see is the Sony logo and the screen of memory card and the likes.

1. Make sure you are using the latest version from http://www.amidog.com/
2. Start FPSE-GUI.
3. Go to the plugin page, choose cdimage.dll (if using an ISO) or cdrom.dll (if using a CD) as cd plugin.
4. If using cdrom.dll, you need to press Configure and tell it which device and unit to use.
5. When done, make sure you press "Save settings" and then choose Start CD.

@mufa

Has it really been that long

LDChen is sadly a bit hard to get in touch with at times. I think his work is far away from where he lives, so he's only home at the weekends, and probably has other things beside FPSE to worry about.

I do get updates from LDChen every now and then though, and always keep the Amiga port up to date (as my betatesters would be able to tell you). So, as soon as I get a mail from LDChen telling me it's time to go public, I can have a release ready in no time...

FPSE has AmigaInput support since 2005 I think, and Altivec optimizations since about that time too.

Overlay might be a good thing to add though...

@Rob

You can only get an old version of the Racer sources from the hompage. I have no idea which version Proost are using. Maybe they have to start with that old one to prove to the coders they are up to the task, and then they might get the latest one. As the website says: "This project is NOT OpenSource.".

I think there were some issues with the 64-bit support in SFS2 and thus it was removed.

Re: How to pick a video card

@kilaueabart

Well, you can use DVI in UBoot, but not in AmigaOS4 (seems the OS4 drivers disable that output or something). What's even worse, if you have a card with both DVI and VGA, and connect something to the DVI-port, you wont get any display from the VGA one... Only took me like an hour to figure out why I didn't get any output from the VGA-port as I had connected a cable between the DVI-port and my monitor "for future use"...

@kilaueabart

1. Well, you can buy them new in Sweden atleast...

2. They should be, but they aren't with current drivers...

OS4 has no DVI-support so make sure the card has VGA too. And get a 64MB card.

@kilaueabart

I've currently got an ASUS Radeon 7000 card in my A1. Haven't had any issues with it, and the Warp3D support is quite good.

I recently bought a Sapphire Radeon 9250 128-bit with 256MB RAM which I'm not using. It workes fine with 2D but has its issues with Warp3D... Basically it's way slower than the Radeon 7000 (3-10 times actually) when rendering small triangles or few at once. And colorscaling isn't working (which I need and use). Driver issues it seems...

I would go for a Radeon 7000 based card if you care about 3D currently, or a Radeon 9250 one if 3D isn't an issue...

About AGP 2x, 4x and 8x, just make sure you get a universal card. Here an image of a Sapphire Radeon 9250:

Resized Image

As you can see there are two "cuts" in the connector part (or whatever it's called ), this means it will fit in an AGP 2x, 4x, and 8x port. Thus works fine in the 2x AGP port of the A1...

Well, USB cameras, USB DVB-T receivers, USB microphones, USB speakers, and just about everything else USB which needs a continuous datastream will most likely be using the isochronous transfer mode.

Re: PS3 port of AOS4?

@GregS

If Amiga and/or Hyperion even have the slightest interest in getting a market worth its name and bringing AmigaOS back to the general public, there is no way they would miss this opportunity.

I'm not talking about selling AmigaOS, unless it comes really cheap, like 10EUR to cover the cost of a CD, but rather giving it away for free.

The Amiga name is still quite well known out there, and a marketing stunt like giving AmigaOS4 away for free for the PS3 could actually be the best move ever...

Just imagine getting tens of thousands of new users over night, not to mention all the potential developers. There would be plenty of opportunities even for Hyperion to make money without charging a singel cent for AmigaOS4.

Just my humble opinion.
